@INIGHTRAINYDAY94 thats why i've been trying to decide if i should even go 50 miles to guitar center to get a pedal w/o the a/c adapter, or just play without it
@Chyaman09 The Boss Distortion ds-1 is worth the money + mine came with a battery all ready in it. i got mine for £45 and im happy paying that amount shame it didnt come with an A/C adapter
just found this puppy for 24 bucks at a pawn shop. Now I have 3 od/dis pedals on my board. I love switching between different overdriven tones with the push of a pedal. Really enhances my live shows.
i just bought one for ten bucks ...looks brand new too and to be honest i only played it once tonight for a short period of time before my roomate went to sleep but i dont like it as much as i used to...i had one about 15 years ago....i dont know...maybe my taste have changed...maybe its cuz im playing thorugh a different amp and guitar...but its just too gritty and not as warm as i thought i tused to be
@Eddie555neji will this work if my amp already has distortion? will it just bring up the distortion levels and up the levels of crunchy distortion on my guitar?
Someone gave me one of these. What a horrible shrilly sounding pedal. Just sits in my drawer. The only hope is an 80 dollar ultra mod. The whiteface reissue rat sounds nice but 200 dollars is steep for me. I will wait and see what the new MXR 78 Custom Badass sounds like?
@Marcel3540 these bands use overdrive rather than distortion. dont use something like a tubesceamer because thats a weak overdrive u need one like the boss overdrive
@itsGoboboy Hey, thanks for your reply. I did my homework and find out that it's very common and normally this can be fixed using a noise suppressor. So I won an MXR M135 pedal from Dumlop at Ebay. Got a second hand for 58 bucks. Still waiting for it to be shipped though. People say it's amazing the way it works. Are you using one of those pedals in you demo?? Since I'm abroad I cannot test the DS-1 with my Princeton Reverb'75 Amp I have at home. So, I have been playing with computer speakers.
@htennek2k I have never used a noise suppressor. Im sure they work but I have heard they also take away from the signal. The biggest cause of this noise is an unshielded guitar. To reduce this I have added some foil to the inside of my guitar, Im going to do a video of that soon.
6:30 is almost the setting I use. However, I put Drive like 10 o'clock, with not so much gain. It sounds very very smoother like this, almost like a fuzz.
i heard the new boss pedal (stomp stack?) is really good. idk if it suits your need. i own the metal zone, which WOULD suit you needs, but it can sound thin at times. just be careful haha.
I am getting a Gibson Billie Joe Armstrong Signature Les Paul junior this week and I am wondering if this would give me a good, Green day sort of sound. I use a Fender Vibro Champ XD Amp.
@TJKillerGuitar Ok, I just got this today, and I can honestly say, it can do metal. I don't listen to any death metal though, but I do listen to a lot of heavy stuff, I'm pretty sure if you have the right guitar and amp, you could do death metal with it, just roll back the tone knob and you're set! Especially over heavy distortion on an amp.
@stayonmytoes It means the signal must pass though the board when the effect is off, in a true bypass pedal its wired so that the signal, when the effect is off, goes though the pedal withought going to the board. Not having true-bypass just takes a little bit form the signal, when you have a lot of pedals in your chain this becomes a problem. But If its just one or 2 pedals then its not that big of a deal.
@liamzuid When you use a non-true-bypass pedal, and the effect is turned off, the signal must go though the circuit board witch takes away from the signal (a very small amount). True bypass is passive and just goes through the DPDT switch.
That pedal tends to be bright or muddy unless you have some nice humbuckers for a fat sound. A nice analog chorus pedal such as MXR micro chorus helps too.
@FiachraW64 i played it @ my friend's house, the amp has a lot of power, so its most likely the amp. I would either A) put the guitar @ 10 and adjust the volume on the amp or B) get another amp, however that's what i would do, you should probably get a 2nd opinion
@perkalator104 - lol, duh, dont buy from a store, musicians friend has all of the guitar stuff ud ever need for the lowest they can legally sell it lol.
im new at guitar and this will sound dumb, but my dad lend me his bass amp for my guitar and i bought a boss ds1 distortion pedal, and i just get a heavy bass sound even with the dist all the way up, do i need a guitar amp? and if so do i need a certain kind for the ds1 to work?
Yes a guitar amp would work, just make sure that whatever amp it is, its on the clean channel because it replaces the distortion thats on your amp. See my video "guitar pedal basics"
@OrangeFerriswheel The amp is what drives and the sound through the speakers, and the circuitry has a HUGE effect on the end tone color. Bass amp will work for a room amp, but it sounds like Doo Doo splattering on a hot frying pan. I've never hooked the DS-1 up to anything it wouldn't work with.
hey ive had mine for a long time and i really love it. but i have encountered a problem!! it gives off no sound when i plug into the input or out put, its like its dead, but the light comes on..... its kinda frusterating, it has enough power and stuff,,,, has anyone else encountered this problem? and uh if so could u tell me how to fix it? thanks i think you people know more than the customer service at boss.... -__-
I just bought it, sounds great for classic punk like sex pistols and ramones, and you roll up the tone and you can play some acdc and aerosmith I highly recommend
yeah...which one is the most suitable padle this distortion or blues driver from BOSS to play green day songs and other pop punk songs? i have the same guitar as yours.....
This one is a little fuzzy and sharp, the blues driver is very clean and dynamic, even though the amount of distortion is the same. I would recommend that you try them in real life, don't judge ANY guitar pedal from youtube reviews :)
@katak223 I'd definitely go with DS-1 out of those two, but personally for Green Day I prefer the Danelectro Daddy-O Overdrive. Idk why they call it over drive, it gets really distorted.
I read the instructions over and over again but I couldn't find any possible mistakes i've done..plz if u know what I can do,reply to this msg..thanks..:))

well, i hav used the metal zone, but watching this guy use this petal they sound different. The metal zone has more distortion and a sub knobs on the high and mid. this gives ds1 gives a wide spread of sound. I tried getting a hard rock acdc sound from the metal zone, it was close but sounded crappy cuz it was not made for hard rock
im sorry maybe im sounding like an asshole here but...if you have a marshall mode IV head...then why the hell are you not using your amps inherent overdrive/distortion capabilities instead of a piece of shit 40 dollar distortion pedal.
I bought this pedal when I had my smaller amp, and I would be carfull about what you call it, I know many people who use this even some pros, its considered a classic.
But the real point of this video is not what distortion I use, its about the pedal itself. If this video helped you determine that its shit, then than thats great.
i have a Boss SD-1. It's differente, of course, cause It's an overdrive pedal. But the with SD-1 + my Marshall MG-30DFX, I think this pedal won't do much more for my tone. I think this is a pedal for people who have an amp with little or poor distortion. Am I right? Or this would be a good buy for me? Thanks.
Yer is this recommended for Rock to a Heavy Metal range of music?

i have a Boss SD-1. Thanks.

i think A 30dfx has a pretty good distortion for rock.DS-1 works pretty well for fenders and some marshalls
