  • I could sleep to this.

  • This vibraphone is a Ross, model R215G, if I recall. The company, Ross, no longer exists. They sold their vibraphone line to Majestic; I don't know the name of their parent company now. The frame is entirely different now and quite heavy.

  • What make and model vibraphone?

  • omg!! this is like a marimba its so0o0o0o cool!!!!

did you edit this video at all?

  • Hi,

    No editing at all.

    Bruce

  • Actually a marimba is made of wood. This is made of metal and called a vibraphone, as the title of the video states. Yes, very cool!!!

  • Announcement for information. I am not a techie. All I do is record with the camera,built-in mic, transfer the clip to my computer and make a movie in Windows Movie Maker. Save. Then upload movice to Youtube and it plays fine. I do not understand what is making problems for some. I did make one clip one time where sound and picture were not synchronized, I just deleted it and tried again. I always SAVE to ImageMixer3 or to Windows Movie Maker.

  • hi vibeman: i think i understand what fordgt402 mean, because i encounter the same issue too.

i bought a microphone (without battery) and just connect to my canon fs100, and when i play back the clips thru my laptop, the sound only come out from one side of the speaker, and when i listen by using headset, it comes out only from the left side of the headset.

maybe you have any suggestion on this? thanks first.

  • First, I am not techie so please don't expect me to have all these answers. However, I sense there is something you and fordgt402 are not doing. Maybe your mic is not a stereo mic and you have to make sure your laptop is configuered for stereo playback. What does a battery have to do with a microphone?? Are you making a movie of clip first before playing back through laptop?? There are some other experts on Youtube but I am surely not one of them. Sorry if this doesn't help.

  • I tried using the mic for this cam, but somehow the sound comes out only on the left side, i mean left earphone.Did anybody else tried using mic recording, btw, great playing you got there, good job, mate.

  • Your reply is confusing. Did you use a mic to record or earphones to substitute for speakers? Someone else posted about that trick with the earphones, not me. But if you are talking about recording and then the sound was monaural, then probably your mic was not a stereo mic. I am not electronic techie but I think there is something in the manual about mono and stereo also. Hopes this helps. :-)

  • it looks so HARD!

  • that is because it IS hard.

  • @100Below0 That's what she said

  • man your talented

  • thanks.

  • How do you think this would handle against filming a drumline both indoors and outdoors? Does this camera have an external mic input? By the way, great vibe work.

  • I have no idea how this would handle a drumline. There is an external mic input. Use a mic with a PIN plug not a 1/8 or 1/4 plug.

  • I just bought this video cam a few days back and it's nice to see how awesome it is. I guess i gotta go make some music and record it too like you did :)

  • Hey there, quick question if you don't mind/quick question if you do.

I can't get MOD files to show up in movie maker. How did you achieve that?

    Maybe that's something Vista does?

or is there a trick to it?

  • If I recall, I don't move MOD files to Movie Maker. I move the file BEFORE saving it in the ImageMaker software that comes with the camera. MOD I think is not compatible with MovieMaker. I also don't have Vista. I don't know what to tell you. I do remember at first, saving stuff in ImageMaker and trying to transfer it and it would not work. So instead of saving and importing in from MovieMaker, I do not save but EXPORT it to MovieMaker from ImageMaker. It is tricky, create a test file.

  • You can try and use a video converter

  • the best thing to do for that problem is to get a new movie maker that supports mod files. because when you convert it with the software, the quality messes up

  • haha the vibraphone sound made me lost my head

idk for a second i was all like in the air o_o

  • Hey great job! I didnt know the mic on this camera is so nice. Also, did you edit this video to get your maximum picture quality? Or did you just film on XP mode and upload directly to youtube? I would like to know because I am getting one of these camcorders and I really like the quality! Very good at play the Vibraphone! That would be awesome if you could answer this question and make more Cano fs-100 tests. Thanks so much!

  • You have to keep your mic within close proximity of your subject. However you can use an external mic for even better sound. Quality was as filmed in XP mode. Loaded into Windows Movie Maker first and saved to My Documents and then uploaded to Youtube. Thanks for compliments. I am not into testing so this was my only test. Sorry :-)

  • if you have windows, what do you use to upload your videos? i use windows movie maker, but they won't upload onto youtube

  • If you use windowsmovie maker, you know that you have to "save" your movie first in order to complete it. Then you go to YouTube and upload from there, it will ask you where your movie is located, enter the address in the line box provided. If u need more info, check help on YouTube.

  • Happy to find a musician testing fs100! I tried it with my violin playing, but sound and picture are synchronized only in camera or its Image Mixer program. In WM player, picture is late after the sound, 0,5 second. It is horrible and I don't know what to do :(

  • I do not know what to tell you. I never noticed anything that slow in WM Player. However, I do not really use WM Player. I move my movies to WMM (Windows Movie Maker) or transfer straight in from camera to WMM to prepare movies for YouTube or whatever. I am not good in electronics and can only suggest that you experiment, sorry. :-)

  • haha thas so cool! awesome camera!

  • The camera as an input for you to plug in a higher quality microphone. Try that. If not, I don't know what else to tell you, I do not know that much about the camera and I don't think there are any more adjustments you can make other than experimenting where you place the camera. Good luck to you. Oh, you could try putting "FS 100 test" in the search box, there are other people who know much more than I especially Scott Lewis.

  • Also make sure you are recording on XP, not the low quality mode. If you use the low quality (so you can record for a longer time) you sacrifice sound quality.

  • I have tried everything you have said including watching Scott Lewis's vdo. Now I'm asking him. Thanks anyway... :)

  • I don't think it has an external mike port

  • Open the view screen; on the main body of the camera you will see a yellow access for AV Out and a red acess for Mic (that is an input access). cheers

  • As far as I know, it is ON or OFF. Experiment with moving the camera around the room is the best I can tell you on this one. What do you mean by distorted?

  • I mean..It seems like I cannot adjust the audio-input volume. And when I watch my vdo, the sound is very walky-talky-like...

    :(

  • would you mind telling me how to adjust the audio-recording volume? I'm filming myself playing a piano in a very small room and the sound is very distorted.

  • ya...we played that song with the fan speed on 4...that is like...1....(4 on a 10 speed....)

  • Hi

I am thinking of getting one of these, but I need a camcorder with an external mic socket.

    Does this have one?

  • Yes it has an external mic socket :)

  • Thanks.

  • did you shot in 4/3 or in 16/9 and you uploaded from the original file made by canon fs 100 or you made some editing to correct the proportions especiallyfor tall image 16/9 and with so I mean the innatural lengthened let me know if you clic on the blue cooriamo you arrive my youtube room and you will watch my video made with canon fs 100 in 16/9 and in 4/3

  • Corriamo,

I answered this once but I do not see my reply. So.... yes I did this shot in 16/9, no editing.

  • Get a better mic and plug into camcorder - mic input. Jittery, what are you trying to do?? This is not a news type camera. You might want to check 1000-2000 USD type camera. Anyway, something in manual about jitteryness. I am not an expert, there are other people who know more, SEARCH for "Canon" "FS100 test" and other vids will pop up.

  • Wow nice! Do you use a tripod stand and if you are 98% happy with the stand for Canon FS100- what is the tripod stand brand and price? What kind of microphone do you use ? poweroffocus

  • Yes I use a tripod. It is simply a standard tripod that you find in any store. The connector is universal, the price is cheap and fits any camera or camcorder. The mic on this vid is the built-in mic but the recording is done at the highest quality (which takes up a whole lot of mb's). I have since recorded at standard quality.

  • Thank you. You mean the recording was down with XP mode using the built-in mic?

Built in mic does not pick up recoridng clearly when talent was some 4-10 feet away in a public place when I tested it.. also have lots of jittery images when video taping on bus when bus was running... too noisy.. too jittery.. Advice to fix the problem highly appreciated before I return the camera for good.. thanks

  • Nicely played music

  • Great quality video and sound! Can't wait to see and hear more of this.

  • Couple problems. Recording in this high quality makes a huge file. Editing and converting presents some problems. Subsequent video (Remember When) is recorded in Standard Quality and pic falls off some. Sound deteriorates when converted. Still working on best formats to operate with.

    BruceW

  • Wow...Nice camera...Great sound!

Can't wait to see what you're going to do with it next.
