2600 hundred bucks for what ??? It was laid out on a computer using 'off the shelf' programing. It has 'maybe' 300 bucks worth of metal and rubber with some paint. Come on now !!!
The IF is too expensive and weights much more than other folding bikes. If you want a full size wheel, try a Montague. If you want a small wheel, try a Brompton. Both are excellent bikes that won't let you down, cost a reasonable amount, and are lightweight. Steer clear of any chinese no-brand folding bikes which can be dangerous.
@FoldingBikeTester Montagues are not full folding bikes, you have to remove the front wheel and most important DOES NOT ROLL like the iF Mode does, rolling means you NEVER have to carry it (like a brompton). Pacific Cycles is one of the most prestigious folding bicycles out there, they make the Birdy, Reach, Carryme and many others. for someone called "foldingbiketester" you really should do your research.
electric bikes -what exactly is the point of an electric bike? electric power to help you carry the extra weight of the batteries. Regardless, nice folding bike design here, but no different than the Dahon Jack or other 26" folders.
$2600 is insane, you could buy a very good carbon fiber 15 lb racing bike for that.
i wonder if it is electric ?? if this bike is electric , this will be the urban vehicle of the future, this could easaly replace motorcycles in the cities.
That's not really the point of electric bikes. The reason bikes have an electric motor is to augment pedaling power especially when riding uphill, it's neither meant to run as a primary engine like a moped nor replace motorcycles.
If they can figure out how get this down to $500 you'd have a consumer revolution approaching the scale of the iPod. Downtube did it using wisely chosen labor & part sources, though I guess the magic phrase for them is "existing parts". The best hope for these guys is to get bought by some major manufacturer who believes in them enough to sell them at a loss, until the economy of scale lowers the cost of their custom parts.
Good :)
