  • Is it me or this guy's vehicle is invisible?. I can see the tie rod assembly, but i can't see where it is mounted on.

  • @MMAinfussion This is part of my imagine this series.

  • Best video I've seen detailing this procedure. Thanks.

  • Would this apply to all R&P type steering set ups? What vehicle is this from? thanks!

  • @brakedd Yes most rack and pinion set ups are like this.

  • This seems so much easier without the car attached.

  • Very helpful thanks. I am about to order new tie rods but have a choice of 14mm or 16mm threads. Does that measurement refer to the inner tie rod thread?

  • @alcobaseta If it is a tie rod assembly it does

  • Can u do this without removing outer tie rod?

  • @Jcal022 You have to disconnect the outer from the steering knuckle then you can.

  • Does the boot also need to be replaced?

  • @Jcal022 Most of the time no.

  • good video

  • Hello Rich,

I don't understand. Why do you need that special tool with the extension bar. Why have the length of the removal tools, why not just back the nut off with a crescent wrench?

  • @trenchfoe The reason you need the length is in most cases you can not get at the inner tie rod from under the vehicle. You have to get at it from the side like i showed.

  • @richpin06a What if you can get at it with a regular wrench? Like "trenchfoe" suggested, is there any reason why you couldn't use one, like a crescent, if you do have the room? Thanks.

  • @carlsetzer If you have the room you can use a regular wrench.

  • @richpin06a It worked! Thanks for your help, expertise, and giving me the confidence to do the job.

  • Thanks for your video, Rich. I like the way you present it with the inner tie-rod isolated from the car. The video shows clearly how it is attached. If you did it attached to the car, it wouldn't be as clear as what you are doing in bright daylight. I also like the way you showed clearly how the tool works. You did a great job for your viewers.

  • @opsvideo2008 thank you

  • How can you tell if the inner tie rods are bad with the rack out of the car?

  • @mgza2007 I feel for play some people go by if the tie rod can not hold position when you move it they replace them.

  • @richpin06a

and how do you tell if the outer tie rod end is bad?

  • @RoberTastic Move the tire from side to side if it is worn you can feel it.

  • @Stylefree83 I ran into the same problem on my 2001 Caravan and I just grinded flats on the tie rod myself. It took a little longer but worked like a charm. If you cant get a power tool in there a rapid metal removal file will work too. Hope this helps you out.

  • @BrassKnuckleBully Lisle make a tool #46600 that is suppose to work on No-flat applications '00-'03 Dodge Neon, '00-'01 Plymouth Neon, and '01-'03 Dodge and Chrysler Minivans

  • had the drivers changed but now my steering wheels turns to the left more inorder for the car to go straight...any comments?

  • @smithtireco That would make me think you need an alignment to put things back in order.

  • i looked at my inner tierod and that part was completely round and completely attached to the rack its a 2000 caravan 3.3L 2wd. what should i be looking for to remove the inner tierod?

  • @Stylefree83 You will need a tool like the Universal Inner Tie Rod Wrench No. LIS-46600 by Lisle

  • @richpin06a where can i get that tool?

  • @smithtireco google crow foot wrench there everywhere.

  • me hunting for rabbitssssssssss

  • proper tool is always better and there are safer outer tie rod end tools now other then the pickle forks

  • how much would you charge to put in the tie rods...if the customer had already bought the parts.?? Thanks for the vid :)

  • I dont know if anyone has already said this but you should use blue locktite on the threads. If you use red or just about any of the others you wont get this back off without a torch.

  • Wow, I watched this video and now I feel like an expert in this area. I am almost wanting my car to give me problem in this area. Well, not quite...but if the problem comes up I am ready for it. Thanks richpin06a all the way from Portmore Jamaica.

  • @kingstonzincfence Jamaica wow....that's were i would like to be come January and February

  • Damn cars anyway!! :)

  • thank you very much great video should help me get the tie rod out of the way. the ford service manual wasnt much help

  • If your inner tie rod doesn't have a jam nut then it probably has safety pins like the ones I just pried off not seeing them and ended up screwing up the threads. Safety pins go through the giant nut and their hollow so it's easy to break. I thought the resistance was from the locktite but apparently my '89 Tempo didn't use locktite on the threads. This day became longer than it had to be.

  • @nightpwner Sorry to hear that

  • Great!

    Thanks !!

  • my tire rod end was completely stripped, no end bolt or anything.....

not even attached to the tire, yeeesh! thanks for uploading this vid, i was about to pay someone $150 to do this peice of cake job ;)

  • Good Video Mr,

    Thanks for sharing.

One question I have is why do you need the special made up took that you had there? Is it because there is not enough clearance when this is on the car to get a normal Large Crescent wrench in there? Sorry,Ive never done this before but looking to have to do it soon

    Thanks

  • @smazz104 Yes that is exactly why

  • mine doesn't look like that and it has a truck attached to it. hmmm

  • hey man I'm an apprentice mechanic in a dealership. we do mostly replacement for warranty. so i came looking to see what doing inner tie rod ends was like. thanks for shedding light on it for me this is a piece of cake. great vid

  • If you have an outer tie rod fork (pickle fork) and an inner tie rode tool this is as easy to do as spark plugs.

  • cracking video!!!

  • Thanks, you're good, I may do this on my car soon.

  • Thank you man for all your info. i just came from the alignment shop and I have to replace myself let see what happen

  • did this dude fart in the video

  • thanks for the info

  • this was very helpful good work

  • Holy shit it's Peter Griffin

  • @NobleNobbler LOL! Must be an out-take from the episode when he was trying to be a redneck

  • @NobleNobbler..I thought of Ray Romano from Everybody Loves Raymond...." Take a hammer and shock the knuckle" made me think off Peter...lol but all jokes a side really good video. Your set up and detail is greatly appreciated.

  • cool thanks!!!

  • Now this, i did not know how to do, thanks
