Very helpful thanks. I am about to order new tie rods but have a choice of 14mm or 16mm threads. Does that measurement refer to the inner tie rod thread?
I don't understand. Why do you need that special tool with the extension bar. Why have the length of the removal tools, why not just back the nut off with a crescent wrench?
@trenchfoe The reason you need the length is in most cases you can not get at the inner tie rod from under the vehicle. You have to get at it from the side like i showed.
@richpin06a What if you can get at it with a regular wrench? Like "trenchfoe" suggested, is there any reason why you couldn't use one, like a crescent, if you do have the room? Thanks.
Thanks for your video, Rich. I like the way you present it with the inner tie-rod isolated from the car. The video shows clearly how it is attached. If you did it attached to the car, it wouldn't be as clear as what you are doing in bright daylight. I also like the way you showed clearly how the tool works. You did a great job for your viewers.
@Stylefree83 I ran into the same problem on my 2001 Caravan and I just grinded flats on the tie rod myself. It took a little longer but worked like a charm. If you cant get a power tool in there a rapid metal removal file will work too. Hope this helps you out.
@BrassKnuckleBully Lisle make a tool #46600 that is suppose to work on No-flat applications '00-'03 Dodge Neon, '00-'01 Plymouth Neon, and '01-'03 Dodge and Chrysler Minivans
i looked at my inner tierod and that part was completely round and completely attached to the rack its a 2000 caravan 3.3L 2wd. what should i be looking for to remove the inner tierod?
I dont know if anyone has already said this but you should use blue locktite on the threads. If you use red or just about any of the others you wont get this back off without a torch.
Wow, I watched this video and now I feel like an expert in this area. I am almost wanting my car to give me problem in this area. Well, not quite...but if the problem comes up I am ready for it. Thanks richpin06a all the way from Portmore Jamaica.
If your inner tie rod doesn't have a jam nut then it probably has safety pins like the ones I just pried off not seeing them and ended up screwing up the threads. Safety pins go through the giant nut and their hollow so it's easy to break. I thought the resistance was from the locktite but apparently my '89 Tempo didn't use locktite on the threads. This day became longer than it had to be.
One question I have is why do you need the special made up took that you had there? Is it because there is not enough clearance when this is on the car to get a normal Large Crescent wrench in there? Sorry,Ive never done this before but looking to have to do it soon
hey man I'm an apprentice mechanic in a dealership. we do mostly replacement for warranty. so i came looking to see what doing inner tie rod ends was like. thanks for shedding light on it for me this is a piece of cake. great vid
@NobleNobbler..I thought of Ray Romano from Everybody Loves Raymond...." Take a hammer and shock the knuckle" made me think off Peter...lol but all jokes a side really good video. Your set up and detail is greatly appreciated.
Is it me or this guy's vehicle is invisible?. I can see the tie rod assembly, but i can't see where it is mounted on.

@Jcal022 You have to disconnect the outer from the steering knuckle then you can.

If you have an outer tie rod fork (pickle fork) and an inner tie rode tool this is as easy to do as spark plugs.
