  • It only takes one David Fincher, one Leonardo Dicaprio and one RED ONE.

    Literally.

  • Wow. Very nice! It really show's off the camera/lens' low light performance.

  • FIncher and DiCaprios' aesthetic would fit perfectly together.

  • It's The Great Gatsby by Baz Luhrmann and not Fincher....

  • eyegasm.

  • GOD DAMN I LOVE CINEMATOGRAPHY...........and WOMANNNN, you faggot!

  • Knowing Fincher, they probably had to do like 50 takes for this lol That perfectionist son of a bitch..

  • @DonRMB Probably did 50 takes and this video was the 4th take.

  • I can imagine this being challenging to follow focus on, what with DiCaprio going in and out of light.

  • lolololol. I thought the movie was called Red One. Bahahaha. *facepalm*

  • OMG this needs to happen! lol.

  • Now I want to watch a film with DiCaprio directed by David Fincher... It would be great!

  • Why is there no noise for it being rated at 2000? Is the reason because it went through a noise reduction in post?

  • @MikeMaliwanag I was wondering that myself...

  • @MikeMaliwanag No, the whole point of the RED lineup of cameras is a cheaper alternative to filmmaking, it is a 4K DIGITAL CAMERA, NOT FILM, therefore there is no noise in the first place.

  • @KINGJADEX Cheaper alternative to film making? This thing costs $25 thousand.

  • @MyHD2AndOthers Yea, which is like 1/8 the price of a low end film camera! So yes, it is a cheaper alternative.

  • @KINGJADEX "therefore there is no noise" Film doesn't have noise, noise is exclusive to digital.

  • @drummerjoe2610 Well, film grain is somewhat comparable, though obviously much less ugly.

  • @MikeMaliwanag No denoising. The MX sensor in the R1 has great latitude and increased excellent low light levels. Plus it is shooting wavelet compression raw motion images. Everything has noise, its just the amount of acceptable noise. The image looks exceptionally clean at this ISO - obviously the compression on youtube doesn't show you what the 4K r3d does.

  • Fucking cool!

  • I hope this has something to do with Leo's upcoming film, Devil in the White City, and that Fincher will direct. Devil is the story of America's first serial killer H. H. Holmes. Holmes had a hotel where he outfitted the rooms with gas pipes leading to an underground torture chamber. He'd gas the guests while they slept then take them down below for a little fun. Some he cremated, others he cut up and sold to medical schools. With Fincher directing and Leo as Holmes this has to be awesome.

  • is there any other video for the master prime lens?

  • RED is definitely the closest thing to film. A bit out of reach for most independent filmmakers, but for those with a bit of cash to spend, it's not a bad deal.

  • @theryaner I totally agree... my footage is like looking at 35mm prints. It's just beautiful. Lit correctly, there is no discernible difference.

And with Epic coming out, there are going to be a lot of used R1's out there looking for a good home. You'll be able to pick up some excellent deals on them in a few months time. You'll be able to buy a used R1 for less than some of these new RED wannabee camera's e.g. Sony PMW-F3.

If you want one badly enough, you will find a way. Believe me!

  • wow

  • @jakematild ... ok?

  • That just looks so awesome. Hopefully they work together on a film sometime soon.

  • Fincher + Red One + Leonardo Dicaprio = explosive awesome.

  • AF100 kick its ase!

  • @KristopherwithaK Really?

    Panasonic's 1920 X 1080 vs Red One's 4500 X 2304... 5 times the resolution?

Panasonic's 180 Megabytes per minute data stream vs Red One's 2 Gigabytes per minute data stream.

The Panasonic is a nice camera, to be sure. But it is eons behind the Red One in performance and image quality.

The term "chalk and cheese" comes to mind.

  • You can easily see that they used no additional light: that would destroys the shadow of the cigare on Leo's face.

  • beautiful. Anybody can tell how and where to get a Red camera training / workshop in Los Angeles? I am new here, and would love to re-start my career in Cinematography (started in Toronto)

  • oh my god

    my heart just stopped

i really really really really really really really really hope they make a film together

  • lol, he and his smoke and his match, trying to see in the dark xD

  • How much does cost one of these cameras ?

  • @lorisio the body only costs $17.5k

  • @FaWzY86 thx

  • @lorisio I believe the red one's body is 18 grand, But the new mysteriumx is 25 grand

  • Comment removed

  • @sonne5 Correct. Although you cannot get the old sensor anymore, so the $18,000 bodies are no longer available (except used). Only the Mysterium X sensor (in the RED One body) is available at $25,000. Epic will be coming soon at around $35K.

  • @witblitsfilm what's the diffrences between RED ONE and Epic ?

  • @NathanCipher R1: 4.5K, body is a hefty beast at around 10kg with EVF, batteries, drive.

Epic: 5K, 1/3 of weight and size of an R1, up to 120fps in 5K, new high dynamic range mode takes it to a rated 18 stops of DR - capture detail in both shadow and highlights. For comparison, film is around 11 stops (max) .

Search: "Red Epic Barn" for an example of the HDR footage.

Oh and "The Hobbit" will be shot on Epics, it has been confirmed. Go to the Red website for details: red dot com.

  • @NathanCipher: For all it's faults (weight and size mostly), the R1 is an exceptional camera which you can make fantastic pictures with (as evidenced by the abundance of mainstream films still currently being shot on the R1).

Epic is just the perfection of the R1... smaller, lighter, more frugal with power, slightly better resolution for normal shooting and much better resolution with high speed shooting. And of course the unbelievable dynamic range.

  • Reminds me of the Zacuto Shootout shot of the old man with the lighter.

  • @matt.

don't you think they snuck in an extra light when the match just gets lighted. That's too much light coming out of a stick even at full blaze. Notice it even lit up the background a bit. Maybe I'm wrong..

  • @amzjaff

    You're wrong.

  • @sigmun25, they're showing off the ability of the sensor to capture footage with no additional light sources other than a lit match. that's a shot nobody would have ever been able to get before this new sensor, without a TON of workarounds with lighting.

  • can anybody explain 2 me y this shot was made? i mean i know it's a screen test nd everythin' but Fincher and Dicaprio have no future project that they r on, why was this shot needed? thank you

  • @sigmun25

Well if their both hanging out doing test shots their obviously friends and probably want to do a film together as well.

  • If i could get one thing, just one thing, it would be the Red One body with the prime pro pack

  • HOT

  • fucking soo cool, i want that camera,,,, so badly :)

  • smoking cigars won't help you to give up smoking Leo

  • Lol its just one shot, yet Fincher makes it look awsome

  • ISO 2000 and no noise...fantactic...awesome.

David Fincher using Leo for screen test...what a pal!

  • @Bejza

I really don't give a hoot if every film is shot on digital now

The Red is amazing, Fincher used the Thompson Viper for Zodiac and Benjamin Button. And he's using the M-X upgraded Red One for 'The Social Network'

    Digital rocks

  • I see the dynamic range has dramatically increased in the Mx Very nice!

  • cool~thx for sharing~

  • That was cool in a very strange way.I feel like having a cigar now.

  • Awesome! What a cool video, thanks for sharing!
