the lighting on crysis 2 is considerable better than on crysis one, but that's it, textures and detail are far less than in the first crysis, they just cover it up with blooming. Not to mention the horrible lack of video customisation settings, it only shows that this game has been dumbed down for the consoles.

Cry 3 will definitely flip gaming on its head, not just with graphics but with physics and detail. However, the engine is not what determines graphics; it's the work put into the game by the developers, and the art style they come up with (in this case, photorealism is the art style).

I thought Crysis 2 would bring an even higher level in game easthetics, but their choice to move to consoles (actually a wise choice for the time being) meant they had to downscale its complexity. The Frostbite 2 engine coupled with the Beast lightmapper, however, is the very latest thing and has the potential to surpass CryEngine 2.
