Thanks for the info about mic. Would like to say, it's great to see/hear some excellent natural talent, especially without the use of backing cd's. Wish you both all the best in the future.
@Rel1ghtme For this video we used a Rode stereo video mic. They are nice in that they pick up very well at a distance and plug right into your camera's mini jack.
If you listen to the original song and this great cover people wouldn't know the difference I really loved it and i was just looking up videos and this one popped up!!! You should try Americas got talent or American idol or something,i dont know if you have already but great!!! Your vocals mesh perfectly:)
I have seen another acoustic guitar/bass duo called Mike masse and Jeff Hall. While I don't often compare, both you and their versions are very good, and you do a number of similar songs
@gsf67 Yes I have seen them. Very good! They should be doing more than pizza parlors! I actually got the idea of doing U2's "One" from hearing their version. Why are all bass players named Jeff?
Jeff / Mike - I just posted my comments on one of your other video (Here Comes the Sun) thinking this was the best cover rendition I ever heard...and then I play this video...WOW!!!!...the harmonies are fantastic....just incredible....you must do this for a living...please don't tell me you work at some job in the food industry, not that there's anything wrong with that, you are both just too talented not to be on a stage somewhere.... wish I could play and sing like you guys...keep'em coming
@nerktwins Well this was a good morning laugh with my coffee!! Thanks! Mik-ee is on guitar, and in real life he owns a print shop. My first job was at Baskin Robbins... but at that time a single dip was 14 cents... Things do change! I work in Science and high-speed photography.
@nerktwins We play a few nights each month at places (like Applebee's) and for lift tickets and rooms at ski resorts... like some old guys might play basket ball just to stay active. We've cleaned most of these songs up a lot since we recorded these versions. Thanks for the really nice comments!! Jeff 5
@PecosMtJeff -- Jeff I wish I could see you guys live ...probably could pick up a pointer or two ....amatuer songwriter myself but not nearly as talented as you boys...wow 14 cents for a single dip...well I remember when a slice of pizza was 20 cents - mmm I guess we are both on "the gray side of life"...mmm sounds like a nice title for a song...I'll work on that and get back too you
This is a great rendition of one of my favorite songs ... but I must say ... when I look at Jeff I see a combination of WIlliam Shatner and "Biff" from back to the future .. :)
@fmita Hmmm... I certainly don't feel Biff... good thing I've lost those 25 lbs since we recorded this cut or I might be promoting PriceLine or waxing cars... beam me up Scotty
@PecosMtJeff Tom Wilson played Biff... he is kinda sorta a standup commedian who also plays guitar.. search his video on youtube .. let me know if you 'feel it' after watching: here is his video: iwY5o2fsG7Y
@fmita Still not feelin too Biff-like, but it is a funny song... I used to get called Capt Kirk a lot... oh well...I suppose it's better than being mistaked for John Candy or Liza Minelli
@PecosMtJeff Let's see.. John Candy was a great comedian. Liza Minelli is a great singer. Is it possible you could be channeling them as well? :) Take care. Thanks for the entertaiment.
@PecosMtJeff Let's see. John Candy was a great comedian. Liza Minelli is a great singer. Could you be channeling the both of them as well? :)) ... Anyway, thanks for the entertainment. Take care.
@rocknroller81 Thanks! Let me know if you post your version on YT...EvilOlive did a cool cover a while back (see video response) and EddieBsB does a great job of showing the Real bass line... mine was just something I threw together to go with the guitar part.... I keep adding things, so I play it a bit differently now.
Thanks! Its a cool and unusual bass line. When we learned this song I didin't have a recording, so I just made up a part with enough rhythm and structure to make up for our lack of drums. Sometimes playing live I slip in a few of the spacey original licks. I do Ziggy Stardust a lot more like the original...J5
Great 1st and 2nd voices... They match so perfectly. I was wondering if my next bass cover would be this song, but after seeing yours, I'm gonna search for another song to play ! hahahaha
DAMN I know you guys get this a lot, but that was fucking Epic! me and my brother are starting out playing some songs in Acoustic, but wow! I'm a bassist myself, I would have never thought that Bowie stuff on bass sound so funky, in a smooth melodically way. But you prove to me that this song itself has some Groove! really outstanding and well done both of you guys :D I got to share this with my brother This made my morning GREAT!
Thanks... keep in mind, while we try to use the right chords, I also alter the bass parts a lot to fill in parts where other instruments are missing. In this duo setting my parts are all hybrid mixes (but that makes it more fun too). Sometimes I have to leave out a cool bass line to cover another line that is more important to the melody of the song. The bass part in this one is almost totally wrong according to the Bowie version.
The Current bass player for Bowie is one of my great influences. She is not only a great bassist but also sing great great Harmonies. I love the hybrid mixes!
Excellent!!! One of my all time favourite albums, have you ever thought of doing Cygnet Committee from the same album. Now there's a challenge for a bass and an acoustic guitar. I'm going to watch one more and then I'm going to warm myself by a roaring wife.
Great harmonies! Especially since it's entirely acoustic with just a Mic stuck in front of you... reverb would have been nice, but then it wouldn't be as authentically acoustic.
nice one
