i've been watching quite a few of these live "get you back" performances, and this one is clearly one of - if not THE best solos of any. He catches a serious groove in this one.
@BiologicalUnit2380 True... but check out the version at "Rockefellers, Houston - 29th Jan 1993"... that's probably my all time fave version... follwed by this one! ;)
His fast playing is a lot less abstract and more in the "suspended " tension . He really got across a uplifting feeling here and with a lot of notes . Reminds me of how beautiful Axis Bold as love is , or one rainy wish . His speed is scary! you slow him down and his riffs make perfect sense . It's like he was able to tap into the knowledge of Aliens . He must have been time warping .Aliens probably really dug his shit and took him to their planet .
By the end of that solo that crowd was absolutely taken away, I mean levitating, sent to a different dimension. They must of felt a sense of complete euphoria, I know I did and I'm just watchin the vid. Thanks Shawn and thanks MyShawnLaneVideos, every day brightens when I pop on youtube and peruse all the Shawn vids, can't thank you enough.
This vid should be required viewing to all the axe men who think they can play. All the bulls**t posers, wanna be flashers, arpeggio flippin knotheads out there who think they're setting the world on fire or reinventing the guitar. After viewing, maybe all those pretenders can sit back down and learn what it means to really play with technique, grace, phrasing, speed, and outright emotion. Maybe they'll stop tryin to get laid and really play not just for the fans, but themselves. RIP Shawn.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MY GOD
I was at this show in 1992. All I can say is that when I hear Shawn play it just makes me feel love throughout my body. I know that is corny as hell but it's true. Some of the best shows I ever saw was Shawn and the Willy's at TJ Mulligans or Alfred's with 50-100 people in the place and Shawn just WAILING on the guitar. I heard "Get You Back" at TJ's long before he recorded it for "P of 10" and it was always one of my favorite songs from him. Man I miss him and his music.
Many guitarists from the 1970's throughout the 1990's consider Jimi Hendrix an influence. One aspect of his playing to which they often aspire is his freedom.
That's what I hear when Shawn played. Complete and absolute freedom.
i really can't stop watching this i have been hooked to shawn for nearly a year and a half and he has evolved my playing and my understanding of concepts ten fold. god bless.
I sooooooooo wish we had a good quality release of this gig, even a soundboard quality Audio recording would be great! Shawn's playing was otherworldly here.
It's insane that so many of Shawn's Live 'Powers of Ten' band gigs back then (over a 5 month period between 92 and 93) seem to have not been recorded. What a loss.
I couldn't believe shawn's videos have only a few views and text comments. Perhaps, only several people appreciate Lane's music. I'd still believe Shawn was one of the greatest, most innovative, melodic guitarists of our time.
I find it insane that this has had so few views and so little people know about the Ultimate Guitar God Shawn Lane, listen how perfect his Tone was here even on a clearly low budget camera in 1992. Not to mention the tune, my personal favourite of his beautiful compositions. Simply the best.
only on another planet the one shawn lane was from would do. he sure didn't cpme fro earth he was brought ere like superman except he came with a guitar in his hands and music running through every single fibre of his body.
I was at this show! I can't friggin believe it! Finally a Shawn Lane show on Youtube that I was at. HOLY SHIT! I remember because at the time it was so hard to find places he was playing. He was at either Alfred's or Newby's and it was awesome because he was actually playing a bigger venue. Well, not much bigger, the New Daisy is like a big club on Beale (but it's bigger than Alfred's). Man, he fucking blew everyone away, as usual, that night.
with very little effort -- i can let tears flow freely when I listen to this song - its pure heaven --- what can I say --Makes me believe that man is indeed no different from God -- Clearly - This man is GOD...
