It's not a 4C, it's a 5P and it's very easy to do. Set SCSI ID to 0, hold the green scanner button on the front and use the powerswitch.

I sold those things back then, you wouldn't believe how many ppl bought just because it was silly. Stuff was expensive back in those days too.

I just tried this on my printer/scanner, all that happened was the scanner went back and fourth fast a couple of times then went slow once then went fast again, it does have 2 other buttons tho, i'll try them

Set the SCSI ID to 0, hold down Scan, and power it on. It's a stepper motor test which is built in.

I have to correct myself. It really works as long as you set the SCSI ID to 0 (there is a dial on the backside of the scanner to set the ID). Sorry for my disbelieve.

It's actually possible to let a HP ScanJet play music, but it won't work by simply turning it on while clicking the scan button in front (like it's done in the video). Believe me. I've got one of these myself and I've experimented a lot with it, so don't believe this guy. But there is software available which will do the trick.

actually this scanner has the instructions built into the rom, it is and easter egg but only on this specific model.

I used to play this on my ScanJet 5100C before I gave it away. It plays Beethoven's 9th Symphony part 4 - "O Freunde, Nicht Diese Töne!" - I guess other HP Scanners play different tunes. It is just a test mode, I guess if it doesn't play the tune then the motor and/or control system is toast.

its plausable that he pressed a button to get the scanner to sng, its an easter egg used as a hardware test. it does this because the electric motor that drives the scanner bar across uses servos, if the drivers are programmed right (set to 0) and u hold scan button and turn it on, this will happen

Bingo you got it right. I just had to hold the botton while connecting power to the scanner. The only reson it is open is to show what it is doing
