When your compare these to other graphics in most local markets, maybe not in markets as large as Detroit, but in most markets, these graphics are great. I mean, they're Renderon! But compared to other graphics from Renderon, they looked overdone and harsh. I think some freshening up of the graphics and some new music, and possibly some variations in the opens from station to station, would make a substantial difference
It's sort of funny to me really. Scripps has a blue and white logo, yet they had some people create orange, yellow and brown graphics. I am SLOWLY getting used to them now finally, after all this time. They could have at least pulled a Gannet and have some color variation and let their NBC affiliates have the chimes in it.
Scripps started in Cleveland back in the 1800s, with the founding of the now-defunct Cleveland Press (which played a large part into the launch of WEWS - Scripps' first TV station). Plus they've used a lighthouse of some sort as their logo for decades. Hardly tacky.
I do believe, however, that WXYZ should have been exempt from their standardization, given that they were an ABC O&O for decades. But that's just me.
@myronfalwell I am not a fan of any of these station group graphics. If a mandate is really needed, ABC should demand that the Scripps group (aren't they all ABC anyway?) be branded similar to WABC or WLS as part of the affiliation agreement. ABC can supply the graphics, and they can still include the lighthouse if necessary.
@micmac99 ABC isn't as strict with their branding guidelines as CBS or FOX. (In fact, CBS' standards are so strict among their O&O group, it's known as the "CBS Mandate".) The only common thread among ABC affiliates is the usage of the 3-D black ABC logo alongside the station logo.
I think incorporating the lighthouse into the graphics was a clever idea, too bad it looks tacky (the transition out of the open, it's fine going into it). The music's good, don't like the instrumentation of the logo (it feels forced), hate the whooshes, and I'm not a big fan of standardized graphics in general. They take away a piece of the unique identity, especially when they can't be bothered to change the colors for each station. At least Gannett did that.
Nice graphics. They dont, however, match the network logo. And im pissed that Scripps changed the WPTV graphics. They were the best. Clean and colorful.

@micmac99 they have some NBC stations and an independent station, but yes, they should. Maybe not WABC, but something like that...

The gfx is good since 'EWS brought back their "Circle Five" logo in '07, it's a good match.

Hey, OTownNews. The lighthouse is in Scripps' current logo. *Not tacky at all*!

@samjarris you're right. If anything, they should have standardized the great WPTV graphics across the board!
