You're confusing the purpose of gender roles. Today they're mostly used for mating. Meaning that, other than mating or healthcare, a person's gender should not dictate how you treat them or perceive them.

He wanted to share his story in hopes he would open the mind of some people who are ready to respect him for who he feels himself to be. He can legally change his gender after obtaining any surgery related to sexual reasignment. Are you proposing it not be legal unless he signed something promising not to get pregnant?
