  • thats one ugly ass phone

  • Look closely, it's edge vs 3G, and u know what if he should've done this test today it would be the same result, because sprint 3G is even worse now. Hahahaha

  • It would be more accurate if u used two of the same phones or the same phone...

  • I have an old Palm Treo. (I don't use it, I don't even have service. I'm giving it to my little bro) I have an iPhone 3GS (much faster than one in video, but iPhone 4 is even faster) I want to connect the Palm Treo to wifi. Is that possible? We have wifi here and I want to see if I can connect to wifi with the Palm Treo so I can access the web. Anyone know?

  • holy fuck they are both slow!!! I don't miss those days, iphone 4 all the way!!

  • Dig that funky Jazz sound :P

Not enough of a difference for it to really matter though does it..

  • @TurnipHunter778

For sure. Thanks for your helpful vids, your so adorable! Where can I purchase your eye shadow?

Tons of gals watching this vid don't like paying for high priced makeup. It can get costly extremely fast! Good news on MACs facebook page they're giving out a TON of makeup for free the rest of the month. =] If you are lazy, I can spare ya some time, heres the contest page.

    shortener。org/64946

And, you must use the code FACEBOOK10901 on the 2nd page <33

  • A treo I all you had?? The Iphone's processor is WAY better.

  • well let me tell you i have the sprint htc hero running android. as of march 16th 2010 it took 4 wseconds for a complete download without clearing my ass i mean cache

  • lmfao this is such a fail

  • I dont get how this video is valid, the treo loaded MOBILE CNN while the IPhone Loaded FULL CNN! The Iphone on EDGE still loaded the full page faster than the mobile version on EV!

Im sorry but this video is pointless :(

  • the palm is loading the mobile version test is a fail

  • i'm not sure where you're conducting these tests but i'm in the middle of who-knows where- kansas and i clicked go on my treo 755p with a clear cache and mine loaded up in about 5sec.maybe you're roaming on the sprint which is not 3g.compared to at&t,well there's no comparison.i love the iphone but i refuse to buy one for the simple fact that at&t is the worst cell carrier.i've had all being a trucker.and the 2best sprint and a close 2nd vzw

  • if u've been to a website before it will take less time to load.

  • No Offense to the video poster, but I almost puked when I saw this. Like the poster below this is a hardware test.. as a former treo owner theres no way it'll beat an iphone. A REAL test of the networks would be to tether the two to PC's and then see who's faster. Thats a real network benchmark.. and trust me. EVDO slaughters EDGE.. in my own bench i downloaded with EDGE at 25-30kbs and EVDO from the same site 125kbs. AT&T vs Verizon.. and Verizon took the win. Don't post biased vids AT&T fan :)

  • What!!! thats not Sprint G3?? Sprint had 3g way before ATT. I use to have Sprintpcs with EVDO 3G. and It load way faster then that.. I had the Autovoxx PPC-6700 and download speed was way faster than that.. Last time I check the speed, I got about 1.2kpbs and that was like 3-4 years ago.

  • haha, he's calling 3G EVDO, learn the difference. the HTC 6800 was the first phone in the US to have EVDO built in, and that treo looks pretty old.

  • Wow he's test Edge a 2g network vs evdo a 3g network. I'm not even sure why some one would even test this. And the palm isnt even loading the real full web page. Thats not a speed test for the network it was a hardware test.

  • OK I just googled edge to 3g and this came up. no offense but don't you have better things to do than figure out which one is better? Seriously who really cares? it should be all about preference.

  • why did you google it in the first place if thats the way you feel? Just asking

  • the treo is a good phone iphone is garbage cost 500$ for that and i can do all that on a treo wtf

  • so you can download from itunes and have a full scientific calculator??

  • Of all the features to compare, did you really just throw out the calculator as the killer app?!

  • if you use it daily like me when out in the field, yes

  • Let me rephrase that. There are countless scientific calculators available for Windows Mobile. The point isn't valid.

  • That AT&T connection costed you 500 bucks LOL

  • $199

  • treo is such garbage, i know 2 people who own one (new ones) after owning blackberrys and they both hate their treos because theyre worthless pieces of crap.

  • LMFAO Sprint got owned...

  • The iphone is a ripoff of Palm OS 100%. All the icons starts & set up are the exact same. Don't get me wrong, the look is 10 times better with the iphone, but isn't that what Apple is all about. Flash, looks, and extra costs? I would have bought an iphone a long time ago if it had MS office capabilities, or some kind of business function to it but it doesn't. Its an entertainment phone. The Treo is a work horse & still the best business phone out there.

  • This just shows that 3G vs. EDGE isn't as cut any dry as some people would have you believe. Signal strength and device processing power are just as important.

  • White trash McCain

  • treo is a piece of shit.

  • This is not even a fair test. He's using an out dated Sprint Phone against his brand new IPhone. Why not do it on either a 755 or the 800? I know because it would kill the iPhone. You could do the 800 against the New iphone but knowing that AT&T's 3g network is really small compared to Sprint's EVDO REV-A. If it's really so quick why are all the Demo phones in the Apple store hooked up to WiFi?

  • cuz its the apple store not the at&t store u idiot

  • hahaha good 1 dude smartest reply i seen all week

  • yer i like iphone betta and the treo looks like shitzz

  • There is something wrong with this test. I cleared my cache and history on my Treo 700wx and loaded into cnn mobile in less than a few seconds. Something is definitely up.

  • is that the treo 800w new palm from sprint?? if it is than its on the REV A network which is 3g if not than its on sprints EVDO REV 0 which is pretty much Edge.

  • 1x is the same as edge

    EVDO is 3g

    EVDO rev. a is 3.5g

just like hsupa(hsdpa) is 3.5g for gsm

but with in the next year everyone will

have 4g so whats it matter

  • Also consider how much more information the iPhone had to download, because it's not the "mobile" site but the regular site.

  • if you have a wireless router can the iphone connect to it

  • yes.

  • Yes, you can. The iPhone will also seek out open wireless networks which are pretty easy to find in big cities.

  • From what I've read the palm browser, Blazer, sends all it's data through a proxy server to reformat web pages into a more "mobile friendly" view. I've always noticed a slower page load on palm devices because of this. If you used a pocket IE or opera mini on a windows mobile device with a 3g connection it would have finished much faster than Blazer on 3g and iPhone on edge.

  • Yeah but it's built in browser vs built in browser...Besides who wants the "mobile" internet...

  • Dumbass...

I was watching the video, and i pulled out my phone (3G) right around the time you started the test. It took the better part of all of 7 seconds for my browser to load up and completely finish downloading the page.

IF ANYTHING, that IPHONE was causing interference with the treo and kicking it off the internet.

which brings up a good question of how much radiation/interference is the iphone REALLY putting out...

  • Wtf is up with all these lame ass joke of phone websites popping up doing "speed" tests in the most retarded ways possible.

  • iPhone 3g is hella fast

  • you should really check your email

  • Fake test!!!! It is common knowledge that 3G is faster than EDGE.

  • yeah but sometimes EDGE is faster, it depends on the location. it's quiet unusual though, maybe the treo had no 3G coverage and switch to EDGE i dont know.

  • thanks for pointing that out i didn't realize that. Nice name by the way.

  • loll thanks but i dont really take it seriously

  • Yes! You cant compare both phones. iPhone has a lot more powerfull processor, more Ram and a better browser. And though its only EDGE it loads the site faster.

  • iphone is the best

  • It looks like the phone on the left actually downloaded a mobile version of the CNN page or converted the web page into a mobile web page for a more suitable view. Hardly comparable.

  • 1. The two didn't download the same CCN page. (They looked different.)

    2. The iPhone, after clearing cache, when to the CNN page before the download test. Treo did not.

Was it really a clean test?

  • Why all the hostility? I was just pointing out what I believed to be a fact. I never once called you a retard or an idiot, and I would appreciate the same courtesy.

You are right, Sprint never used EDGE, it uses CDMA2000 1x-RTT. But they are the same speed, it was late at night, and I wasn't paying attention. No need to debate technicalities.

If, as you say, there is no icon, how do you know you were on 3G during the review. If that was Sprint's 3G, I'm glad I have AT&T!

  • You're right. I was too hostile. As for Treo on EVDO, I live in Los Angeles, where Sprint EVDO coverage is excellent (which I know is the exception..) I had the treo 600 for years before the 700 and it was much much slower--No EVDO. Also, I think the weird antenna icon next to the signal bars showed it was EVDO. Anyway, that test was an honest anomaly, Sprint 3G is much faster, and EDGE is much slower...) There were other tests at my site iphonePOV that showed more realistic results.

  • It may have been you were deep enough inside a building that you were only receiving standard CDMA, or a coverage anomaly (Sprint upgrading a tower at the exact moment you did the test?). In any case, that was very poor 3G, if it was 3G at all.

  • EVDO isn't even Sprint fastest speed. The Treo 700 only runs EVDO not REV A. Sprint has been test by many companies over the last year and has posted the most reliable and fastest network. GSM (ATT Technology) does not have the data capabillities of a CDMA network. It's a fact look it up.

  • Verizon > Sprint. 3G coverage, and speed with Verizon is much better.

  • just one problem:

3G isn't everywhere, and it isn't where this video was filmed.

The Sprint Treo 700wx, according to the sprint webpage photo, displays an icon that says EV in an EV-DO 3G network area. This is Sprint's only 3G wireless option. In the video, there is no icon. They were both running on EDGE.

So it is EDGE vs. EDGE, not EDGE vs 3G, as the name suggests.

Search for yourself. The name of the phone is the Palm Treo 700wx

  • You are retarded too! The phone I used (I say I because I made the video and that is my voice...) was the Treo 700P. The P means it ran on the Palm OS not crummy Windows which is what your WX refers to. Palm devices don't say when they were using EVDO, they just use it. And, just to prove you really don't know what you're talking about... I thought I should mention that EDGE is a GSM technology and as such, Sprint has NEVER made a phone that uses it! Dummy.

  • Too bad it's:

    Sprint EDGE and AT&T 3G

Try proof-viewing your video before publishing it and making you look like a retard pl0x?

  • You are the retard. as of today June 1, 2008 the only mobile network available for the iPhone is ATT's EDGE network. Sprint as of this date is using the EVDO network which is 3G. So you are the retard. A few weeks from now, Apple will release an iPhone which is able to utilize ATT's 3G network, at that time, I will post new video's comparing speed.

  • Then please do explain, why my Cingular (which is now AT&T) phone is running on the 3G network?

Don't make me post a video proving that...

  • You are the bigger idiot. AT&T has 3G but not on the iphone yet its called At&t Edge which is 2.5g. Sprint's is called EVDO and is 3G.

So... AT&T 2.5g Edge network vs. Sprint's 3g EVDO network.

The video poster was more right than you were so you are a complete idiot and he was more right. Try not being an A-hole and do more research.

  • You're the idiot for calling me an idiot. I made the stupid video, I can call it anything I want. And by the way, don't you have anything better to do than post stupid comments about other people's comments? This is my video and I was responding to a comment made directly to me. What's your excuse?

  • Now that that's been said, let me say this about that... 2.5G was a term made up by the press. EDGE was designed and implemented as a 2G technology. And, for your information the defining element of 2/3-G nomenclature is primarily time-frame, not what the press labels it. As such, EDGE is and will forever be a 2G network.

Nice try bozo, try reading something more technical than CNET and maybe you'll be able to pitch in this game.

  • If everyone wants to get anal about the test does even compare to the fastest speeds of both network. Sprint EVDO-REV A and ATT 3g. Sprint has a limited 4g market, but its minut. The test is between two completely different phone's on completely different networks. It's just a comparison nothing concrete. If you want a fast reliable network 3g go Sprint if you want a fast reliable phone go iphone. Or what till the sixth and see how the Treo Pre looks.

  • does the Treo Pro run off of the EVDO-REV A? Mine is coming in the mail soon and the videos did not look like it went THAT slowly.

  • Yeah the Pro has Rev A. It's a really quick phone. I currently have it until the 6th when I can finally get the Pre. There really isn't a need on the Pro to down Opera browser the IE browser on it works extremely well. Over all it's my favorite Win Mobile phone to date. It's really quick. The battery life is awesome compared to the 800w and form factor is really sleek and small. You have to remember when watching this that the 700w is 3 years old and in cell phone lingo that's a longtime.

  • Great! thanks for your help.

My pro just came in a few days ago, and your right. there is not need for Opera or Skyfire. IE does it all, and is quick too.

    Thanks for your help man.

  • I enjoyed watching this test, it compared my two options (EDGE or EVDO), where i live, neither company feels it is to important to install 3g.

  • Not to take sides but the Treo only had 2 bars whereas the iSuck had 5.

Not sure if that makes a difference.

  • You're not taking sides, but you're calling it the iSuck.

    Right.

  • Yeah. I'm not a fan of the Treo or iPhone. I like to record a lot of video and neither of the phones can do that......plus iPhone doesn't have MMS which I also do a lot of.

  • Just to comment on this flood gate opening "fanboyism" phrase is getting real annoying. Leave the "noob" slander off to the WOW players please. Thanks.

  • Lol, just tried on my Sprint HTC Mogul using Skyfire browser on EVDO and it loaded the full blown, non-mobile version of the CNN web page in 5 seconds. The poor speeds demonstrated by this video are a result of a crappy browser and the high probability that he is not in an EVDO coverage area. Not saying that the iPhone isn't cool, this video is just bogus in regard to browsing speeds.

  • He isn't.

    See my comment.

  • You might want to clip your nails, you could scratch the screens of those phones.

  • Try the latest OperaMini on the Treo. It will smoke the iPhone's Edge. Although I will have to say that the iPhone's UI is AWESOME. I would love to see a Sprint iPhone. I would drop my Treo in a heartbeat.

  • omg. ur 3g rly sucks

  • your 3G seems to suck a lot

    here we have about 2-3mbits

    and sometimes even over 6mbits

loding the 650kb over such a line would just take about a second ;) if CNNs servers could provide that speed

we'll see what the 3G iPhone with HSDPA on UMTS will bring the man

  • My 10 mbit cable connection feeding into the latest powerbook doesn't load CNN in 1 second. I want what your phone is smoking!

  • Although the iPhone will be updated to a 3G phone by june, Sprint may still be ahead because of the new WiMAX G4 Technology they will release this yr.

  • WiMax is so yesterday. Do some research on LTE (Long Term Evolution.) That's the future.

  • that phone next to the iphone looks like a gameboy color, and has the same screen resolution. everyone stop bitching about flaws in the iphone, because lets face it, its the best phone made, and if you cry about it your just stating your too poor to buy one.

  • What do you mean by "poor?" iPhone's price is relatively average for a smartphone. BlackBerrys running under Sprint's EvDo network run from a cheap 200 bux to almost 6 c notes for one of those phones. Palm trEo 755p: nearly 600 bux. Palm trEo 700wx: 550 dollars, and the HTC smartphones are anywhere from 5-600 bucks. If you are w/another network that's not ATTMobility,trEos are pretty good phones if you want a decent smartphone with touchscreen and an easy access keyboard and modest speeds.

  • you typed so much but all i read was blah blah blah.

  • This is not a benchmark or test (or whatever you'd like to call it).

  • 3 things

    1. Sprint sucks major ass and is by far the worst mobile service provider.

    2. EDGE isn't really as slow as people make it seem. I mean, all the treo loaded was the crappy mobile version of cnn while the iPhone loaded the FULL webpage and still managed to do it faster than sprint's EVDO.

    3. A 3G iPhone will be out by this June.

  • 1. It just happens to be that Sprint has by far better data coverage than ATT.

    2. Sprint data is way faster than ATT even way ahead now that upcoming devices are coming with RevA Specially all broadband cards.

    3. Edge is way slow don't fool yourself even 3g is not nearly as fast as RevA see you may think and say Sprint suck but is a step ahead than ATT in data.

  • Well where I live (Nashville, TN) sprint coverage sucks. My friend has a treo that's on sprint and he doesn't like it at all. And I never said EDGE was fast, it's quite slow. But at&t is rapidly adding more 3G coverage. I almost always have 3G coverage. And 3G isn't much slower than RevA. 3G has average speeds of 400-700 Kbps and RevA has average speeds of 450 - 800 Kbps. RevA isn't much faster at all. And 3G coverage greatly exceeds RevA coverage. And poky old EDGE tops out at around 200Kbps

  • Are you kidding me you mean to say att has better data coverage than sprint? Probably in nashville sprint coverage sucks but overall in the US sprint has better data coverage. Att bareley has 3g coverage in big cities. They are way behind sprint and verizon in data coverage. ATT's 3g is comparable to EVDO, RevA is a step ahead, just name me an att device that is faster than sprint's mogul running RevA?

  • Well what are the connection speeds of the mogul? The best competitor for the Mogul would be the at&t Tilt. The tilt has speeds of up to 3.6Mbps

The tilt also has a 3MP camera while the mogul only has a 2MP... Not a very important feature but both phones are the same price, overall you get more for your money with the Tilt.

  • Wow, just surfing to see how the iphone looks. I am so amused to see that even phone companies have tons of fanboys. Just FYI: Intel > AMD ; Nvidia > Ati ; PC > Apple ; my dad > your dad.

  • Since when did debating two phone companies become fanboyism? If we were fanboys we would be saying stuff like "sprint is for fagz" or "at&t is gay lulz" Just FYI: you're an idiot.

  • OK fanboi... My dad is still > than your dad.

  • Oh, good comeback dipshit.

  • lol

  • ha ha this is fake and what idiot it depends on your location. Sprint 3G is for sure faster that Iphone. Don't believe this test.

  • ... On top of that, are the stats of data/web access by smart phone. The iPhone trounces all. In other words, in the real world people actually use their iphones to access the web where as studies indicate other users do not.

  • In the end it is user experience that rules. This test is apples and oranges. Even if the iphone is slower in reality, I would rather wait a few seconds for a beautiful web experience as provided by the iPhone. I own the 16 and an 8 GB version

BTW according to Walt Mossberg, there will be a 3G iPhone in 60 days.

  • good point...

  • WOW this video is such a lie. I just went to cnn for the first time ever on my treo700wx sprint network and it loaded in 1-1.5secs thats less than 2seconds buddy. DONT BELIEVE THIS VIDEO!!! ITS A SCAM BY A HATER!!!

  • this is because the standard web browser for the Treo 700p is the Blazer, and everyone knows it is HORRIBLE. Opera mini is MUCH faster. This is not a true test of 3G EVDO vs 2.75 EDGE (not2.5). Had a Treo for years and now I have an iPhone and the data connection is WAY slower... miss my Treo...

  • True, Blazer is in fact the worst browser I have ever used.

  • amen. Blazer blows.

  • this is a load of bunk. I have a Sprint Touch and using mini opera, this very same page took a total of 7 seconds to load for me. I would suggest doing your test with an actual speedtest website. at mobilespeedtest I get 1.88 Mbps... that's an "M" not a "K". EVDO is limited in availability, this video is showing what looks typical for 1X network speeds as opposed to EVDO/3G

  • iphone rock i have one and i had a treo for two days and it stopped working, it restarted every 2 minutes so i got an iphone

  • wow that was impressive even though it wasn't the same data for each device. I like how the iphone opens the real webpage instead of a simple mobile page. I'm looking to buy a smart phone and I would have never guessed that I'd be looking into an apple product! everything i see says its better.

  • Ha, that proves that the iPhone's processor can process a page faster than a Treo. 3G itself is way faster than EDGE.

  • This proves everything edge is slow

  • You're right johnmonk66 , not only was the time on the ticker different but they download completely different information and I also think it depends on the browser as well because you can't do the things you can do on the much older trio on a new device with newer features, the iPhone. so this video is invalid.

  • they are not the same speed, the treo downloaded simple script, the iphone downloaded a real web page. the iphone downloaded twenty times more information in the same amount of time

  • Eh they where both slow as hell...I'll take Opera Mini anyday..I just opened the same website on my blackberry curve it 25 seconds on T-Mobile EDGE network..no wifi

  • treo rocks

  • your mom rocks.

    treo sucks

    iphone rocks

  • no way! go treo!!!!

  • 3G is faster, it's proven. And when you get down to speeds on a real computer, 3G blows EDGE out of the water. I am waiting for a 3G iPhone because 3G also has better voice quality than the GSM network.

  • Also, is you notice that the iPhone has 5 bars and the Treo has 2 and 3 bars. I don't know if that makes a difference but that could why.

  • THE STATIC D:

  • I just tried on my Helio Ocean with CNN, loaded up in 5 seconds. I think you must be up in the hills or in the valley, your phone connection is way too slow!

  • dude, he turned off wifi

  • back2schoolfool, go back to school and learn how to count!!!

    haha

  • you started the iphone first!

    I see hezbollah terrorist lol

  • and look, it has a second longer on the timer. idiot.

  • sprint sucks ass you cant compare att to sprint

  • i own a mogul and it owned the iphone

  • I own an iPhone as well as the Mogul for Sprint and this is NOT the case....

  • actually tried it 10 times and was able to get as low as 22 secs then got in the 20s alot with my helio ocean using opera mini

  • my helio ocean using opera mini took only 33secs to acces the site i tried it 3 time and got 40secs and 37secs

  • everyone knows iphones better ...stop trying to pinch a penny and buy it already.

  • Wow if this is true, Sprint's 3G sucks ass.

  • Think of this iphone haters.. the iphone is constanly improving itself

  • Actually the Treo won this test since the information was ready after only 5 seconds, and the iPhone took 26 before it could display anything!

If you notice, the sprint treo browser loads the page right away, then actually pauses a few times (watch the kbyte meter). This is because it already loaded the parts of the page that it can, and its trying to see what other components it can display before it downloads them. You can actually go ahead and read and click the next item before it finishes.

  • Also want to add that the Treo's CPU is slower than the iPhone's. So, the treo keeps trying to figure out where to put all the stuff on the page that its already downloaded, whereas the iPhone with its fancy graphic-oriented CPU is waiting to download it still.

A better test- tether them both to the same PC as modems, and open a website. The Treo will be almost like Wifi.

  • OMG That is the most ridiculous thing I've heard this year. I'm not going to use my phone as a wireless modem for a laptop! It better stand alone as a wireless internet device all by itself or I don't want to even bother with it.

  • here's a question: will iphone 3g be any different than the current iphone besides the fact it will be on 3g? Any physical difference? hardware or software difference?

  • of course more memory. and SDK is to bring us 3rd party apps (the current deal breaker for me since i can not leave palm behind). the rest would be a guess and hopefully we will soon see?

  • verizon treo is much faster

  • that's amazing. both so slow!!

(kind of makes me sad to think 3g ATT will be no faster?)

  • Cut ur nails, man!

  • Yow. I don't think five seconds makes a difference when you have to wait one minute (one minute!!) for a web page to download. What is this, 1992 again? I don't know much about cell data plans so is this speed normal? If so it doesn't look very useful for browsing on either network.

  • I agree I dont know where this was done but the speeds are horrible

  • when the 3g iphone come out will it be consider a iphone 2gen or will it just be the same as it is now but with the addition of 3g?

  • it will just have another addition

  • great vid

  • i was at the att store and tried the iphone turned wifi off and sompared it to my helio ocean, my ocean was on opera mini and it took like 8 secs to fully load yahoo and 15 on the iphone so thats 2 times faster almost

  • Yeah, kid, but keep in mind that Edge (2g) is roughly 512Kbps where as 3G is 1.5Mbps

Not only that, but Opera Mini Mobile is more condensed than any internet mobile browser

  • look how easy it was to do load bookmarks on iPhone...when he went to trio....brahahahah

  • Does the fact that the phones are right next to each other interfere with the transmission/downloads in any way?

  • i wouldn't think so, do to them having different carriers AND having different ways to connect to their respective servers.

  • but the apple is downloading 5 times the data, something wrong with this test

  • This is pretty funny seeing as though I just tested the speed on my Treo 755p (Sprint 3G) and it loaded the CNN homepage in under 2 seconds, literally.

  • yeah...put up a video to see if that's true.

  • did you clear the cache?

  • wow u are a dumbass

  • Apple is such a wonderful company. I mean Palm's job is to make phones. Apple primarily makes computers and ipods and they decided to make a phone that blows all other phones away.

  • the phone blows every phone away in internet browsing. It just seems that pocket pc's and palm OS phones have more customized applications tat can be added. Im sure the iphone will have plenty of applications one day...........but should i get an iphone or a cingular 8125......i care more about customizing my device, but i also like great web browsing

  • Sprint doesn't even have a 3g network. By the way the IPhone looks WAY better

  • The treo is not on a 3g network. That more like Sprints old edge network.
