  • I can't believe that Sean Bonniwell's gone :'( R.I.P. Sean

  • Two minutes of pure bliss.

  • Your music lives on Sean!

  • I recall Joey Ramone saying in an interview that everyone wanted to look and sound like The Ramones. After seeing this (advised) I think its pretty clear that the Ramones wanted to look and sound like these guys. They were probably very aware of their song as teenagers.

  • My older brother told me about this video & i can't imagine a cooler video than this! Thanks for sharing this bit of 60's music.

  • Lastrada52 totally nailed it! almost - left out my personal #2 behind Music Machine's Talk, Talk and that's LOVE's 7 & 7 is - whew! Those two bands and songs had major positive impacts on my whole being when I first heard them when they debuted in the best decade in history - the 1960s.

    This song RULES! .

  • Dude was 71 years old. 2 years older than Paul McCartney.

  • real rap rulez

  • Easy to see where The Ramones got their inspiration from . . .

  • Sean was, besides being a musician and disk jockey, well known in the Central Valley as a very good player in the Senior Softball circuit. Played along side him in both league and tournaments and he was always a competitor. We"ll miss you Sean.

  • One of my favorite 45s from the 60s.

  • Sorry to hear of the death of Sean Bonniwell.

  • "One of the most-loved but least-played garage bands of the 1960s"

    ...

The New York Times December 29, 2011

  • Pretty cool!

  • Rest In Peace Sean!

  • RIP Sean. :(

  • Bonniwell is playing that Electric Martin guitar that Skip Spence was seen playing on the back of the first Moby Grape album. RIP Sean.

  • Respect.

  • Dang! Sean passed away. What a record! What a band!

  • Comment removed

  • This song is an absolute, well ahead of it's time, pure masterpiece!!! R.I.P. -- Sean.....

  • R.I.P.

  • Really loved that song when I was a kid!! So sorry to hear of his passing! Farewell, Bonniwell!! Will miss you Sean!!!

  • Search for the video: The Wayfarers, Folksinger (1963)

    His previous band

  • Very sorry to read about the death of Sean Bonniwell in this morning's LA Times (12-29-11). This band did make an impact and were an influence, a GOOD one. R.I.P, sir, you will be missed.

  • Via Con Dios, brother. Rock on in el cielo!

  • Rest in peace Sean. You made a classic.:)

  • 12 years old at the time. i was very curious about them dressing all in black and the gloves.i wished it was me and how cool they appeared. rest in peace sean. henry from los angeles ca.

  • peace sean, your music will always rock out!

  • A young bass player had to stay home and let the machine go.Lost the black glove like so many other memories.Istill play a black jazz bass not a Hofner.I know the secret of the black glove

  • R.I.P., Sean. :(

  • Peace Mr Bonniwell..in fuzz we trust!

  • REST IN PEACE, Sean Bonniwell...

  • Thank you for the rock! You changed my life. Rest in Rock, Rock in Peace, Sean.

  • RIP Sean

  • Sean Bonniwell died yesterday.

  • @jecleveland1 You sure? Nothing on the net about his passing.

  • @mpjgbx It was finally announced over his Facebook page tonight. Details will be available in January. He had been ill for a while.

  • @mpjgbx @girlmusic2remember Sorry was off for awhile but yes. I was there... well near enough... I feel lucky to have known him for awhile. Just the nicest guy.

  • where was the music machine from, what city

  • WOW--!!----a MARTIN ELECTRIC GUITAR----PROBABLY THE DEEP RED ONE-----COOL

  • The Music Machine rocked! My band took the same look( all dressed in black) and people loved it! They had about a half an album worth of great songs. Unfortunatly, that was about it. But what a great sound it was.

  • They should call groups like this -- not "one hit wonders" -- but, "single IMPACT artists." Yeah, SIA's. This track, the Syndicate of Sound's "Little Girl," Los Bravos' "Black Is Black," Blue Cheer's "Summertime Blues," The Count 5's "Psychotic Reaction," ? and the Mysterians' "96 Tears," the Castaways' "Liar, Liar," the Small Faces' "Itchycoo Park," -- oh, there are millions like this that will never see the basement of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame -- but these artists were IMPORTANT !!!!

  • @lastrada52 And don't forget New Jersey's own Knickerbockers, with 'Lies'. One song -- but what a song.

  • @youspoppa - Yes, you're right. Many people I know thought they sounded very close to the early Beatles and "Lies" was that good.

  • @lastrada52 I agree 100%.

  • @lastrada52 I completely agree with you. I find the title "one hit wonders" really condescending and think these bands had a seminal role in shaping the course of music. How aout The Blues MaGoos - We ain't got nothin yet

  • @FebMarAprMayDec - Blues Magoos' "We Ain't Got Nothin' Yet," absolutely.Status Quo's "Pictures of Matchstick Men," Soul Survivors' "Expressway To Your Heart," Rockin' Rebels' "Wild Weekend," Contours' "Do You Love Me," Safaris' "Wipe Out," Jaynettes' "Sally Go Round the Roses," Rocky Fellers' "Killer Joe," (kid who pre-dated Michael Jackson), Honeycombs' "Have I the Right?" Bob Lind's "Elusive Butterfly." Standells' "Dirty Water," + Easybeats "Friday On My Mind." Lots.

  • @lastrada52 I couldn't agree more.

  • @lastrada52 ACTUALLY these guys were "two hit wonders" (The Double Yellow Line)

  • @lastrada52 AGREE TOTALLY! And don't forget Hot Smoke and Sassafrass by the Bubble Puppy!

  • @lastrada52 I agree with everything you say except I would never ever think of The Small Faces as one hit wonders. In the UK at least, they had many hits, and their "Ogden's Nutgone Flake" album was a seminal Sixties release.

  • @johnnyluddite - Very true. I liked the Small Faces, & I lived in a metropolitan area. I found "Itchycoo Park," "Tin Soldier," "Wham Bam Thank You Mam," & "Lazy Sunday." But then finding anything -- singles or lps -- was a hunt. Then they joined up Rod Stewart. In the UK, yes, they had a longer string of hits. Back then, if you remember, there was some controversy in the US about IMPORTS on small labels. They were on Immediate here, & I guess distribution was getting harder.

  • They were bad ass. One of the first bands to tune down a notch to E flat.

  • Who are the ten music hating idiots that dislike this classic piece of 60's garage rock? I pity losers who cannot appreciate a song like this!

  • Oh, yeah, I bought the 45.

  • Greatness

  • i'm stuck on this!!!!!!it's sooo baddass!!!

  • psychedelic garage!

  • no garage band here....these guys rock

  • @11xzxzxz-Love was obviously influenced by Music Machine since "Talk, Talk" was released in 1966, before anyone ever heard of Love.

  • @mwinston555 Afraid not. Love's first LP came out in late 1965/early 1966 Da Capo (2nd LP) came out in 1966.

  • anybody got "The People in Me" by Music Machine?

  • Where have you been all my life. I live in the northern part of Europe, Scandinavia, and have never listened to you earlier. The English rock wave "washed" over all the teens at that period. I´m glad that I discover you today - 46 years later. Thank you for uploading and that you´ve opened my ears because TheMM is outstanding. In the mid 60s was my fav. THE ZETTLERS. Check up their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". Irresistible f....g good and what a"drive"!!!!

  • we rocked this one in high school all the time

  • Get a Hair cut hippies!

  • I remember this from the original release! I love this song!

  • Obviously influenced by Arthur Lee of Love. Arthur could do it all though and his worst songs sound like this too although I am not saying this is not a good song.

  • @11xzxzxz I think they originated at the same time, so who's to say who influenced who? They both came out in 1966 (Love maybe late 1965), so it's NOT really "obvious" is it?

  • @overbrookXXX Love originated in April 1965 and had been called the "Grass Roots" prior but had to change their name. Love's Forever Changes in 1967 was landmark..

  • @11xzxzxz Yeah I knew that, been a fan since they first came out.

  • @11xzxzxz My point is, Love's first LP was recorded in Jan 1966 and released some time later. These guys came out about the same time. The Grass Roots (Love's first name, not the later group for all you reading this) made a couple of unknown recordings which definitely DIDNT influence Sean Bonnewell (lead singer of Music Machine).

  • @overbrookXXX Yeah I see your point. I just hope everyone knows that Love had 20 great songs, at least. With Lee and Bryan writing great songs that will last forever c.. Can you name a couple of other music machine song's as I just vaguely knew this one..it's good.

  • @11xzxzxz I appreciate what you said. Im a bigggg Arthur & Bryan fan. And I see your point too, LOL. Ive got their LP but none as good as this one. But best wishes to you, and have a happy Thanksgiving,

  • @11xzxzxz I mean the Music Machine album I have, and none as good as Talk Talk.

  • I Remember being BLOWN AWAY by this in....what...' 65...'66? Wow. Definitely a metal precursor... This one and Wild Thing/Troggs pretty much laid the pavement for all the rest... Thank you guys... Well done.

  • Thanks for posting. My Older Brother turned Me on to this song. He had the 45, but I never got to see Them on TV. Wow!!! Talk about about setting a Standard. This Rockz!!! Thanks Again from a Grateful Happy Recluse :).

  • What make is that guitar sean's playing?????

  • Rocket from the Crypt (RIP) had a 7 inch called, "RTFC does the Music Machine" which consisted of two their best songs (among several others which also rock) - "Masculine Intuition" and "Trouble". The covers are very good. The art work simply takes the cover of, "Turn On" and replaced The Music Machine with a picture of RFTC. Both bands were amazing. Sean Bonniwell (lead singer) went onto do a different album completely: allmusic.com/album/close-r31216/review

  • Saw the band in Santa Rosa, Ca at the time of their hit.

They did play "live" with each member wearing a black glove.

    Beyond cool then...and now.

  • @27DavidPetri Love it. We opened for them at that very time, early 67 I think, and they each walked on stage with the black glove thing, they took them off when they played of course, but I often wondered later ...hmmm was that glove to keep their left hand (playing hand) warm? hahhahahhah They all had Vox Super Beatle amps, as we did, so all of them together looked like a huge "wall" of amps (at the time).

  • Great band with a great song...and what a sound!!! 62 and still rockin...thanx for posting.

  • When i look at the frontsinger in this video, he is really reminding me a lot of Bob Seger in he's early days, when he was in the band, named = "The Bob Seger System". I think it has something, to do with the hair and way he looks when he's sining in this video, so funny ;)

  • "Hibernation"____________story of my life_______

  • SHOULD HAVE SAID "MY SOCIAL LIFES A DUD" MY NAME IS ELMER FUDD. NOW THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN COOL!

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES Youre armchair quarterbacking. Frankly I like it as "my name is really mudd",( referring to Dr. Mudd who helped Lincoln's assinator (John Wilkes Booth) out and was tried later). Elmer Fudd? really? that sounds kinda "silly" for a hard-edged song like this. But that's just my opinion, you have yours as well.

  • We need a return to fun, energetic, soulful music like this.

  • there's a british 80's band that took the name of 'talk talk' they put out a few great LP's although it's a lot mellower than this song

  • Comment removed

  • Timeless! One of the best bands of the Garage Punk era.

  • No problem TLinuf, it takes a man to apologize. We all have different tastes

  • Just wanted to apologize for the previous comments I made earlier on this thread. Musicianship is a difficult enterprise and no small undertaking. You just can't do it overnight, like any profession.

    It's cool y'all are into it ...

  • I really dig this shit. It´s real underground garage shit and it makes me happy. It´s not a music machine - it´s poor music from the 60s.

Another unknown band from the mid 60s was THE ZETTLERS. Check out "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". Full speed with a feeling!!!!

  • It dont get any better than this. Totally cool haha. Peace out...

  • These guys are groovy as hell dude!

  • Love the one black glove!

  • I want to hear Motorhead cover this....!!!

  • I REALLY dig the MUSIC thanks for the flashback!!!!

  • Parents named him Mud because they weren't married.....Dad turns to new Mommy and says we're in Mud deep!!! (can't call a kid -shit-.When we tell our parents they're Grandparents

    Just a rumore I started........not real folks

  • These guys played in a garage two doors down from where I lived in Norco California. I was only five but I thought they were cool. Thanks ladyfuzz85

  • Odd name your folks gave you, mud...... really.... great song.... but, you seem obsessed with your name... why??

Seriously mud, would you prefer to be named dweezle or motorhead?

  • Odd name your folks gave you, Mud...... really.... great song.... you seem obsessed with your name... why??

Seriously mud, would you prefer to be named dweezle or motorhead?

  • Odd name your folks gave you, Mud...... really.... great song.... you seem obsessed with your name...

  • Odd name your folks gave you, Mud...... really....

  • The prototype grunge/punk rock song. And nobody did it better.

  • When these guys hit the scene, they freaked everybody out - bad (and I mean "bad" in a good way)! Regards, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock)

  • Thanks to all!! After the Music Machine, I fell in love with the blues, joined The Ike & Tina Turner review for the next few years, & have been playing the blues ever since...

PS: TLinuf.... You are such an idiot..................

Mark Landon, lead guitar, The Music Machine!!

  • @Tikiguy100 Interesting I've always loved the blues, I love Ike & Tina, but I've always equated this song with another of my favorite genres... punk! I personally think that this song ranks as early punk along with MC5, the Sonics, etc. Anyways I also agree with you about TLinuf.... IDIOT! Obviously he don't get the meaning behind the song, and the amazing musicianship of this band. He's probably a Justin Bieber fan. lol

  • Crap then, Crap now ... Sorry!

    Mediocrity at it's FINEST!

    Whatever ...

  • @TLinuf -You're the poster child for the old phrase "opinions are like assholes, everyone has one".

In your case, your ignorance is on display for everyone to see.

  • @MrDavearama ... You know, you're so right! I shouldn't have made those comments and regret it. Hope you enjoy the day!

  • awesome flash back I had!

  • These guys sounded just like this live. The sound would blow you out of the freakin' doors.

  • @bksanf01 I will second that 100%, like the single playing on 10. Like when Moby Grape was at their best on a good night, just blew you away not with volume but just powerful stage presence.

  • The Stranglers got their inspiration from these guys and the Doors

  • 17 people didn't like this?? This is classic 60's garage band rock! Must be 17 tone deaf idiots out there!

  • Unfortunately kids appreciate history of rock music as much as they understand the history of the U.S. They don't realize that bands like the Music Machine, Blue Cheer, MC5, etc. were the great-grandfathers of Pantera, Judas Priest and System of a Down. The music advances, the attitude stays the same. They don't know how horrified our parents were to see these garage bands pushing Bobby Rydel and Rosemary Clooney off the pop charts, LOL!

  • God I Hate "Radio Consultants" with a purple passion! Absolutely guaranteed they won't allow this 'old school' stuff to make into onto any of their beloved "Radio Formats'.

  • Epic stuff...Thank god my virgin ears were defiled by the likes of The Music Machine and the Seeds,et al...It was a great time in American pop/rock /garage music....

  • I've watched music go from great to.. what the hell was that. My kid thinks this stuff is just tired old shit. Hope he gets a grip sometime in his life. I lived the 60's ...Just seems a little fuzzy anymore but the MUSIC was my LIFE.

  • I saw them perform this song live at Melodyland, Anaheim, Calif., in 1966.

  • Love the fuzz bass!

  • Right on,dude !

  • pretty damn cool vid.

  • what guitar is the singer using?

  • @TheNidrix

it's a Martin electric. I believe the model is the GT-75

  • @174FIRST oh shit i meant the other guitarist . :)

  • love love

  • These guys were not a garage band. They were very polished and if you listen to the record, they were very diverce. They were part the begining of HEAVY METAL along with The Iron Butterfly , and of course the best of all THE CHILDREN OR THE MUSHROOM

  • Got turned on to this song on Little Steven's Underground Garage. If you've never listened to his show, you don't know what you're missing.

  • Brilliant.

  • Damn this song packs a punch!! Punky, driving, edgy, anguished lyrics, raspy guitars, exhilarating drum fills - all in one minute & 58 seconds! Whew!

  • 16 people did not turn on the Music Machine...

  • Now I know where the "wearing one glove" trend started from.

  • anyone can play a guitar with a glove on the strumming hand...be real hero and try playing lead or making chords with a glove on that hand...lol.

  • WOW! SUCH AN AWESOME [[GREAT]] BAND AND THAT HAPPEN TO BE ONE OF THE BEST AMERICAN BANDS FROM THE LATE 60'S!

  • absolutely fantastic. this is REAL punk.

  • Psychedelic garage rock.

  • this is the greatest rock and roll 45 of all time

capturing everything rebellion, attitude, heart and soul

sean bonniwell you are the man.

  • I checked out the Bardem As Anton Chigurh video(just googled it)...WOW!...Shoulda used "Talk-Talk" as the soundtrack....Somebody should make a slammin film with an all 60's garage rock soundtrack....Is there one?

  • The band that inspired Bardem's Anton Chigurh. Thanks, friend-o.

  • Listen to the lyrics man!!!....If you were never a "citizen type" And lived the wild life, maybe you still do, this tune hits the spot...Lies...Cops outside the door..Can't sleep at night...Name is "MUD"....Stay in hibernation...Social life's a dud...One of the best tunes to come outta the 60's..."BORN TO BE WILD"(Steppenwolf) got nothing on this tune....

  • thanks a million

  • Luv this stuff. Totally under-rated, even in its day. Thanks Music Machine fo making this music happen!

  • November of 1966. a classic

  • song reminds me of the movie "whats new pussycat" luv this song:=):=)

  • is this an original? i love the garage punk sound

  • i heard this one alot..im glad youtube has this one..i have been lookin for this song.

  • Question: How long should a song be?

Answer: As long as it's good. 1:58, not a second wasted or another second needed.

  • Somebody help me to see how this is a great song. Ive listened to other garage hits by the lemon drops the thirteenth floor elevators etc and their songs sounded a lot better than this. I listen to a lot of garage rock and it just doesnt compare. Thanks for posting anyway!

  • Are they really playing guitar with gloves on? LOL

  • @dovie2blue Yeah, long before the "gloved one' (Michael)

  • Miles Kane :D

  • Us old school dudes dig this shit, always

  • @shovelheadmike100 Hell Yeah!

  • @shovelheadmike100 great song and lyrics and classic punk singing. doesn't get much better than this....

  • @shovelheadmike100 I did the shit now and I will be 46 in Oct

  • Saw them live excellent for the Era

  • Awesome. Awesome. AWESOME!!!! Fond memories from late summer/early fall 1966 on KFWB, KHJ and KRLA AM Top 40 radio !!! "Radio Consultants HATE this stuff, but I LOVE IT because it's SOOOOOO very MF-ing dated !!!

Radio Music Consultants HATE this stuff

  • The only thing wrong with this song is it was way too short!

  • I bought the Music machine LP at a tag sale when I was 10 or 11. It was a great early influence on my musical taste.

  • This would always make my day when it came on the radio! ...and it did

    Thanks for posting.

  • even the tambourine is in your face!

not the best band ever, not the greatest. but they're the coolest ever.

    KEvron

  • Outstanding upload, the sound is excellent :)

  • I met these guys one night here in Springdale as they were traveling through.I was working in a gas station and they stopped for gas and I asked why they had a hole in the trunk of there new Olds 442.The trailer came off the hitch and went into the trunk.

  • One of the Coolest songs ever!!

  • 15 people are arthur lee (yes I know he's dead)

  • Wow..now we know where Michael Jackson got the idea for one glove...lol.

  • Would it be correct to say these guys might have been an influence on the Romones .

  • @Warthog5050 YES

  • the gloves got it going

  • @TheKookoo244 hes playing a martin electric guitar like skip spence had

  • i found this 45 record once but at the time didnt know who or what the music machine was i regret not buying it everyday even though i had no idea who it was because this song is just great

  • Music machine is the Greatest!!!!!
