Actually Apollo was the most worshiped god by the greeks, maybe cause he was somewhat god of the culture, even today the modern greeks state that he is their favourite god. Phoebos Apollon was considered, and still is by some greeks, as the protector of greece and greek people.

Most of the major Greek gods and heroes were bisexual. Apollo, Zeus, Hercules, etc. They just tend to mask that particular characteristic in modern summaries.
