Wow, after years of not having trained Wing Chun your vids really make me wanna begin some WC training again. Your drills and exercises are great stuff. Keep em coming. Greets from a former Chunner turned MMAer.
in a real fight if the guy really wants to hurt you, wing chun is no good, cuz of the tension each guy has, practice boxing i reccommend it, wing chun alone you will not survive in a real situation with just blocking
@Shadowx209 so wing chun is just blocking !!!?? Lmaoo be quiet its easy to say stuff if u dont know but U DONT EVEN PRACTICATE THE Martial art an du know it only does bloking !?
Boxing is a sport...It doesnt even ave scennarious like multi attakers,on the ground fight ,no kicks and how to prevent stuff like WHAT HAPPENS IN A REAL SITUATION on the streets
@Shadowx209 that u cant do it doesnt mean oother people cnt do it !!! AND BRUCE LEE prAISED WC/kung fu and he brought it in 60% of his stil......so if WC isnt good why u doing it !?
@beyonceboy100 I do wing chun for blocks, but you need boxing skills to counter it, im not saying wing chun is bad, did i say wing chun is bad? no all i said is that in a real situation you need more than just wing chun to kick ass, you need to throw those hooks uppercuts, jab, cross, not just straight punches. I love wing chun , but wing chun alone wont cut it, you need to practice boxing aswell, ducking and shoulder slides, i didnt say wing chun is bad, but for me wing chun alone is not enough
@Shadowx209 Wing chung is not about blocking, is manipulation. If you're able to disable your opponent you already win the fight. And Wing chung has a lot of techniques that allow you to do that.
Where does the strength come from for the blocks and the punches? It looks like the blocks are all openhanded and wrist. When I fight I base all of my blocks and attacks around the elbows and palms, and blocking forward instead of to the side (I play Judo, not Wing Chun) and it seems to be the same sort of idea... I'm not quite sure if it could apply to Judo though.
I dig your video's, however isnt learning how to chain punch correctly an exercise on its own? And something you learn how to do well before you start to do chi sao? Also isnt one of the tactics of chain punches is to shock your opponent then you can finish the job with some more brutal elbow or knee if needed, obviously you should begin chain when in close range. I only mean *one* of the tactics of chain punches by the way is the shock, it can buy you a couple of seconds and dominance.
@mixtld cheain punching is easily block with Wc style, it compare to some jabs, you cant throw punches without impact just as a tactic, its goes against 'every movements has a meaning', you can punch much as you want, if your body is not properly align, it is useless.. if you focus on your arms, you dont understand the style at all
@WingChunHard I agree partly, throwing chain punches without impact and with body not aligned is no good, however an aligned body and close range explosive chain punches can be very effective when under stress in a street fight situation. Obviously every situation is different when on the street so have to adjust to situation. But I do beleive ONE of the tactics of chain punches if done correctly can buy you some time and shock opponent, giving you a window to take control entirely
@mixtld i spar witt different person with different styles in an almost ' street fighting' situations, wich mean we hit, sometime bleeding, but never too far! ive tried chain punching as an attack, as a tactic and as a 'finishing move'... must say opponent generaly is surprised by the speed and the ' i dont know what to do with it'.. but ive realise that after 2-3 times, they understand the movement and block it, because it goes against the idea of been soft, relaxe, economy of movement...
@WingChunHard from my experiences, hands are just tools in WC, what define the style is first your head, your adaptation.. and then the footwork, the body structure make it all
@WingChunHard Yeah, well if your sparring with someone than obviously the dynamics are going to be different, I still stand by my last response, and I also don't beleive WC is designed for traditional sparring ( back and forth exchange of blows ) when I studied we did fight drills, someone being aggressor and other WC, full contact with safety gear. WC guy stands in middle of circle and one by one would get attacked, only a few seconds would usually last per person for take down.
I don't see how exactly Wing Chun could 'block' someone who actually punched back in a non Wing Chun stance (correct term?). Most people when using a martial art are geared toward the defense or offense of a particular art...Meaning...Wrestling and Jujitsu are in a sense counter-parts meant to (in some ways) counter one another while also being the strength and weakness of each other. This 'chain block/defense' thing wouldn't help against one whose knowledgeable in striking outside of Wing Chun.
@LeVaughnX It takes time and experience to uderstand and recognize the subtleties of some martial arts. Wing Chun is one of those. When you practice long enough, you understand that any martial art can be adapted to cobat another style. That being said, the directness of wing chun and its use of the centerline philosophy makes it a great style for getting inside the comfort zone of your opponent, and hitting your target before your opponent can react.
@LeVaughnX I wish i could remember the video where this was explained. A wc student explained that many schools he tried were bs and he used western boxing techniques to beat many many practitioners. It wasnt until he stumbled upon someone who truly understood WC theory and put him in his place that he was able to understand the effectiveness of wc. As far as i understand, the 2 key elements are closing the gap and maintaining that close range.
@LeVaughnX from there, you can detect your enemies movements, intercept their attacks, and make their ability to attack a heck of a lot harder/slower. You'll gain a lot more insight if you actually participate in demonstrations vs watching videos. That is, find a good teacher and have him physically show you some wc theory. it makes all the difference in the world.
@LeVaughnX when your up close...very close like where you are suppose to like in the video, if they dont' punch in a way you can "block"...you just punch straight it will intercept their motion before they punch you....and this is just training, the goal is find an opening so u can get a solid hit, most humans will go down if u can just land one solid hit...oh and wing chun don't work that well unless you are as well condition as the fat guy in the video
@LeVaughnX If not using the wing chun stance to punch The the one useing wing chun should be able to strike you first, becouse it is the best stance for max speed, but the speed alone isnt enough, wing chun realy does need some form of bone density training to make the hit realy count once you have that trained up its much like having steel beam at the end of your hand. I could see a old style of wing chun haveing problem vs a quik on the feet kicking opponent since its flat foot style.
Very good video (except sound quality...). I also hate that kinda "chain punching" you mentioned... This video gives an practical drill to learn Wing Chun punching. Nice. Keep up the good work.
Audio is too hot...can't hear from the distortion. Hmmm, it's impossible to fix once it's been recorded too high, the only alternative is to reshoot the clip at proper levels. Thanks for uploading.
Just get a gun. It's not the Matrix people can't dodge bullets. If your dumb enough for someone to get close to you to get punched you deserve getting knocked out.
@blackoutcrew1000 the question is whose getting baited... me replying, or the fool who keeps replying knowing that i have an ad for each time they watch the video ;)
always looks better with a weak student , everyones a fuc kin expert one here yap yap yap yap yappty yap yap yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaapppp , shut the hell up yapping and fight someone whose gonna smash you soul out of your body , then post a worthwhile video .... and btw stop yapping like your ving tsun ... maybe i meant flapping lol
Wing Chun really looks awesome, tho i am afraid i wont ever be quick enough to perform it correctly. Any place where u can do this in slow motion 8-).
@bobverm01 u'll learn the speed. but also speed is not essential for training. one may practise slower, especially in the beginning stages or when learning something new
maybe wing chun won't be as useful in a ground and pound situation, but I can see its usefulness in general for feeling and anticipating an opponent's attacks and developing a natural feel of overall fighting mechanics as well as reflexes. combined with a well rounded inclusion of other styles, it can be a useful tool. the trick is knowing that it is one tool of many and being able to use different tools for different circumstances.
@hgamer You misunderstand what i'm saying. I don't think it sucks. I think it is a great system for stand up fighting and some of the concepts and skills it builds can be applied to other disciplines. It has it's strengths and as well as shortcomings. I primarily use tae kown do for its dynamic kicking and keeping opponents at a distance but incorporate some of the wing chun for hand work and trapping when they are a little closer, and jiu jitsu for if the fight goes to the ground.
Bottom line, you have to create an opening to execute a chain punch. This applies if your opponent knows how to block, doesn't necessarily have to be a wing chun practitioner, just anybody who knows basic martial arts blocking. On the other hand, you can blitz to your hearts content if your enemy knows nothing about fighting.
@RolandAxforde Anyone can do Wing Chun! You just need to learn to relax your muscles. Any one of any body type can learn Wing Chun. You just have to learn the proper technique and body structure, as well as learn how to keep your muscles relax and rely on your structure for power. I'm sure you'll do just fine man!
@hgamer hah!!! i see you are bit more confident as well. any other time youd side step with a joke and here you are talking about other forms of wing chun like yours is beyond scrutiny. do you think that youve arrived? huh? hokay, big shot...
@hgamer me an idiot? i may be a bit crass at delivering my message but its an insightful one none the less. you calling me an idiot is wholey inaccurate and not so creative on your part. we could go back and forth like this if you like but im not the one on tube talking about freeze frame drill, freeze frame drill?...nigga plz. call it what it is and tell your students thats not how you arrived at understanding the maxim that took you...snicker, snicker 6 years to understand?
It's interesting that in MMA, majority of these 'techniques' are thrown out the window as they're based on particular circumstances in order to be utilized.
@hgamer That is so typical of a newcomer to martial arts. You criticize everything else except what you practise. I on the other hand, am simply making the point that in the heat of the moment these techniques that you so passionately practise aren't going to work out the way you practise them. Oh and lets see you get in a ring after grappling and throw a proper side kick eh hot shot. Fucking arrogant prick!
@hgamer You should totally go enter MMA competition, beat all those unskilled losers, make millions of dollars and prove to the world that wing chun is the greatest. Why not? I mean, they can't even throw a side kick right.
@hgamer Randy Couture was almost 48 when he made a million bucks to get karate-kicked in the face by Lyoto Machida. Granted, you probably won't make that much for your first few fights.
@hgamer Couture's only been knocked out cold twice in his career and his style is not a very risky one in terms of catching power punches. He's hardly a candidate for pugilistic dementia. MMA ain't boxing.
@wurblewurble studies have shown, its not the knock outs, but the constant poundings that appear more damaging........ you willing to bet that couture's gonna be wearing a bib in a couple of years...
@hgamer Couture is part of the first generation of true MMA guys, so we won't know how MMA compares to boxing for another ten or twenty years, probably. But why should that stop you from entering MMA competition to prove wing chun's supremacy to the world? Do you really think any of those unskilled bums can land power shots on you? They can't even throw a proper side kick!
@wurblewurble It would be kind of ignorant too. A) MMA is a sport, Wing Chun is not. B) It's not about styles. It's about individuals. Who knows? One day some guy may come in and rush to the top and beat everyone with boxing. Or perhaps Judo? Or even Wing Chun! Either way, It's useless to banter and slander martial arts. It goes for both of you. It's kind of like saying Traditional drawing is better than digital art. In the end, they both do the same thing. Efficiency depends on the individual.
@hgamer - thats awesome man. i realized after i posted that asking u that u have a vid of ur teacher, lol felt like a goob. either way, i dig the vids and thanks for the good insight and explanations as well as good visual of the techniques
hey man, i dig ur wing chun vids, and was wondering..who was your teacher? perhaps a better question qould be to what lineage does it trail back to. thanks for explaining concepts easily and demonstrating them too. rock on
@MrBigman001 Yeah, B.Lee would get killed against M.Hughs, and probally be the 1st to admit it if he was alive. So dont even go there as it is impossible to say, though i think Bruce Lee wouldnt turn down the fight.
P.S. Bruce Lee ended up HATING Wing-Chun aswell when he saw the light of mixing martial arts that work.
people are soo dumb....if you try to fight these guys your ass will be huggin the floor, the speed in which they move their hands are way faster den what they showed its a DEMONSTRATION for God sake
@WALLY1234556 you realize this is a video on the mechanics of chain punching? and not a fight video? i can imagine you going on a video of a dad asking his 8 year old to show what he learned in karate today, and then you commenting in the video that the kid is nothing and putting anderson silva in there would sure show him
@WALLY1234556 it seems i got people agreeing with my comment
i dont see shit for yours, because yours is an ignorant one. are you one of those guys who puts up two fists and bounces back and forth and thinks theyre a real tough fighter? how about you say something that can make me think and take you seriously
if you dont think it works, if you think wing chun sucks, thats fine....show me. show us. give us a reason and example why it sucks. dont come back with a stupid insult
@StopFlaggingVideos LMFAO, i dont take any of this Kung-fu crap seroiusly coz it dont work for real 99% of the time. So i dont care if you take me serious of not to be honest.
All strikes to eyes and neck and groin you do could ever work in a fight but as "you can`t EVER practice it" your bound to be shit at it. Stop kidding yourselfs and do some real life full contact sparring so when you get smashed round the head from behind etc you dont pass out or freeze+shit yourself. Now, go chop wood !!
@StopFlaggingVideos Oh BTW numbnuts, people on here only agree with your comment coz there all faggy Kung-poo lovers aswell.!! LOL!!!!! This shit is for little pussys who cant fit in at MMA/BJJ/JUDO/WRESTLING/OR ANY REAL FULL CONTACT TRAING ARTS/SPORTS, thats why there all small. You lot just have "Little man syndrome" go get your best ever in History Wing-chun guy & match him with any pro MMA fighter or No-Gi-JJ black belt and we all know that whing -chun would be shown 4 what it is. -OUTDATED
@WALLY1234556 i gotta say...you still haven't convinced me of anything. you got that thickhead moron MMA mentality, i think of you and picture someone screaming and bashing their head into concrete walls
you haven't proven to me wing chun is bad. youre the one accusing it of being shitty, so the burden of proof is on you to show why its shitty. martial arts dont contact spar as practical as MMA, thats true, thats bad. but youre saying the idea of martial arts is wrong, so prove it
@StopFlaggingVideos Fine if you want proof its shit search for Jason Delucia V Royce Gracie (not at UFC) even though he beat him there aswell, he beat him at his gym full contact, no rules, gracie challenge. Proof done, OK..?
@WALLY1234556 that was nice proof but it only showed how good bjj was. doesnt say shit for kung fu...i can say if you do bjj right, you do well, if you do kung fu right, you do well too
just because bjj got in close and negated the guy's ability to strike doesnt mean kung fu sucks at all, it means the bjj guy successfully got in close to his opponent, doesnt matter what style they would've had. are you looking for wing chun on the ground? wing chun is for standup. bjj is for ground
@WALLY1234556 calm down lol you really cant take abit of banter can you pal, dont you think your been abit childish i mean if you think wing chun is crap fair enough but really grow comment like that make you sound like a prick ......
@WALLY1234556 can i ask your age because your acting like a six year old. come one 'you wouldnt give a shit bout me and just laugh at how wrong i am' let me ask you this why are you answering back to our replys if you think where WRONG.
@WALLY1234556 mate no offense but you are one little fuck wit wing chun is renown to be one of the most effective martial arts and self defence technique in the world, so unless youve fought a guy who knew this martial art you really dont know if its good or not!
@MrRandomaussie Proven by who? lol, its dancing. No-one can spar it, prove it, do it, theres allways some excuse. And i do know people who do it and i can walk right through them.
@WALLY1234556 See how many people bitch me back about this stupid video, if you had true faith in it you wouldnt give a shit bout me and just laugh at how wrong i am, but nooo, you have a screaming fit and cry on here about how wonderfull it is, when it plainly isnt, and i think you all know that and cant cope. So just go to a 10th Planet Gym, or some MMA gym, Muay thai gym, mix your arts to suit you - even include this if you must) but drop how Wing-Chun is God of fighting. 3 Letters - RNC. :-p
All of what's shown is great and relatively simple/common for wing chun. My concern is how do we attack/block against someone who street boxes and is 4-6 inches taller than you? In addition, what if the opponent out-weighs you in bulk muscle, so clearly he is stronger.
All of what's shown is great and relatively simple/common for wing chun. My concern is how do we attack/block against someone who street boxes and is 4-6 inches taller than you?
@hgamer I respect Wing Chun immensely as one of the best martial arts out there, but you just lost all my respect for you as an individual. MMA is a sport, not a martial art. It is in the fighter, not the sport. To classify all MMA as similar like that shows you know nothing about it. Wing Chun is a martial art, therefore should not be compared to MMA. Please stop these comments about MMA because you don't understand it. Otherwise, fight a skilled MMA guy in a cage, then talk trash.
@hgamer Thank you for repeating what I said. All I was saying is that you can't say that Wing Chun will beat MMA because it uses a bunch of moves that are illegal in MMA. Thats like saying "Oh I'm gonna win this soccer game by drop kicking the goalie." P.s. its gonna work "perfectly" against an MMA fighter until he takes you down and pummels your head into the ground. How good is your ground game sir? I wouldn't trust it as far as your IQ spans.
@narwhalsandjuice Most of wing chun is legal in MMA. Eye gouges, groin attacks, and throat chops are really the only major things that aren't allowed.
(MMA guys know how to do these thing too)
So do the principles of trapping, centerline, vertical punching, and a square-shouldered stance immediately suck if you can't fight dirty?
nice

@mrspsl well actually taekwondo isn't useful when kicking cuz there's a huge opening which hurts them and block the attack
Believe me I tried it

@bobverm01 u'll learn the speed. but also speed is not essential for training. one may practise slower, especially in the beginning stages or when learning something new

maybe wing chun won't be as useful in a ground and pound situation, but I can see its usefulness in general for feeling and anticipating an opponent's attacks and developing a natural feel of overall fighting mechanics as well as reflexes. combined with a well rounded inclusion of other styles, it can be a useful tool. the trick is knowing that it is one tool of many and being able to use different tools for different circumstances.

@mrspsl i agree wing chun sucks...
hgamer 5 months ago
@hgamer You misunderstand what i'm saying. I don't think it sucks. I think it is a great system for stand up fighting and some of the concepts and skills it builds can be applied to other disciplines. It has it's strengths and as well as shortcomings. I primarily use tae kown do for its dynamic kicking and keeping opponents at a distance but incorporate some of the wing chun for hand work and trapping when they are a little closer, and jiu jitsu for if the fight goes to the ground.
mrspsl 5 months ago
@hgamer lol you say wing chun is sh*t but you upload videos of it??? wats wiv tht
Ace416Blade 5 months ago
@mrspsl best supplemented with brazilian jiu jitsu, they work around the same concept of flowing with the opponent's energy.

@biglilantmo hmmm strange, that's never happened
hgamer 5 months ago
no one said anything about blitzing, but to actually go into a fight and play miss mary mack is suicide.
biglilantmo 5 months ago

It's interesting that in MMA, majority of these 'techniques' are thrown out the window as they're based on particular circumstances in order to be utilized.
jayfulf 6 months ago
@jayfulf do you have any idea how much skill is required to do this... 95+% of those guys don't even know how to throw a basic side kick properly
hgamer 6 months ago
@hgamer That is so typical of a newcomer to martial arts. You criticize everything else except what you practise. I on the other hand, am simply making the point that in the heat of the moment these techniques that you so passionately practise aren't going to work out the way you practise them. Oh and lets see you get in a ring after grappling and throw a proper side kick eh hot shot. Fucking arrogant prick!
jayfulf 6 months ago
@hgamer You should totally go enter MMA competition, beat all those unskilled losers, make millions of dollars and prove to the world that wing chun is the greatest. Why not? I mean, they can't even throw a side kick right.
wurblewurble 6 months ago
@wurblewurble do they let old farts like me in there? anyway, i'm more motivated by the power then the money.....
hgamer 6 months ago
@hgamer Randy Couture was almost 48 when he made a million bucks to get karate-kicked in the face by Lyoto Machida. Granted, you probably won't make that much for your first few fights.
wurblewurble 6 months ago
@wurblewurble i wonder if 1 million is worth the dementia and alzheimer's he's eventually gonna suffer
hgamer 6 months ago
@hgamer Couture's only been knocked out cold twice in his career and his style is not a very risky one in terms of catching power punches. He's hardly a candidate for pugilistic dementia. MMA ain't boxing.
wurblewurble 6 months ago
@wurblewurble studies have shown, its not the knock outs, but the constant poundings that appear more damaging........ you willing to bet that couture's gonna be wearing a bib in a couple of years...
hgamer 6 months ago
@hgamer Couture is part of the first generation of true MMA guys, so we won't know how MMA compares to boxing for another ten or twenty years, probably. But why should that stop you from entering MMA competition to prove wing chun's supremacy to the world? Do you really think any of those unskilled bums can land power shots on you? They can't even throw a proper side kick!
wurblewurble 6 months ago
@wurblewurble regardless of skill one never under estimates an opponent
hgamer 6 months ago
@wurblewurble It would be kind of ignorant too. A) MMA is a sport, Wing Chun is not. B) It's not about styles. It's about individuals. Who knows? One day some guy may come in and rush to the top and beat everyone with boxing. Or perhaps Judo? Or even Wing Chun! Either way, It's useless to banter and slander martial arts. It goes for both of you. It's kind of like saying Traditional drawing is better than digital art. In the end, they both do the same thing. Efficiency depends on the individual.

P.S. Bruce Lee ended up HATING Wing-Chun aswell when he saw the light of mixing martial arts that work.

StopFlaggingVideos 7 months ago
@StopFlaggingVideos LMFAO, i dont take any of this Kung-fu crap seroiusly coz it dont work for real 99% of the time. So i dont care if you take me serious of not to be honest.
All strikes to eyes and neck and groin you do could ever work in a fight but as "you can`t EVER practice it" your bound to be shit at it. Stop kidding yourselfs and do some real life full contact sparring so when you get smashed round the head from behind etc you dont pass out or freeze+shit yourself. Now, go chop wood !!
WALLY1234556 7 months ago
-OUTDATED

@WALLY1234556 Hey bud. I train in many styles involved in mma and also many chinese based styles.
You should probably up because you're obviously clueless.
George St. Pierre. I assume you know that name? His first martial art was Kiyokashin Karate.
He also studied in many other chinese martial arts.
Why is that significant? Because GSP is known far and wide for his astoundingly powerful and accurate headkicks. Which comes from this "kung-poo"
Stop raging about shit you dont know
NODcepter 7 months ago
@WALLY1234556 i gotta say...you still haven't convinced me of anything. you got that thickhead moron MMA mentality, i think of you and picture someone screaming and bashing their head into concrete walls
you haven't proven to me wing chun is bad. youre the one accusing it of being shitty, so the burden of proof is on you to show why its shitty. martial arts dont contact spar as practical as MMA, thats true, thats bad. but youre saying the idea of martial arts is wrong, so prove it
StopFlaggingVideos 7 months ago
@StopFlaggingVideos Fine if you want proof its shit search for Jason Delucia V Royce Gracie (not at UFC) even though he beat him there aswell, he beat him at his gym full contact, no rules, gracie challenge. Proof done, OK..?
WALLY1234556 7 months ago
@WALLY1234556 that was nice proof but it only showed how good bjj was. doesnt say shit for kung fu...i can say if you do bjj right, you do well, if you do kung fu right, you do well too
just because bjj got in close and negated the guy's ability to strike doesnt mean kung fu sucks at all, it means the bjj guy successfully got in close to his opponent, doesnt matter what style they would've had. are you looking for wing chun on the ground? wing chun is for standup. bjj is for ground

All of what's shown is great and relatively simple/common for wing chun. My concern is how do we attack/block against someone who street boxes and is 4-6 inches taller than you? In addition, what if the opponent out-weighs you in bulk muscle, so clearly he is stronger.

Otherwise, fight a skilled MMA guy in a cage, then talk trash.
narwhalsandjuice 8 months ago
@narwhalsandjuice what mma is a sport, no DUH!
hgamer 8 months ago
@hgamer Thank you for repeating what I said. All I was saying is that you can't say that Wing Chun will beat MMA because it uses a bunch of moves that are illegal in MMA. Thats like saying "Oh I'm gonna win this soccer game by drop kicking the goalie." P.s. its gonna work "perfectly" against an MMA fighter until he takes you down and pummels your head into the ground. How good is your ground game sir? I wouldn't trust it as far as your IQ spans.
narwhalsandjuice 5 months ago
@narwhalsandjuice Most of wing chun is legal in MMA. Eye gouges, groin attacks, and throat chops are really the only major things that aren't allowed.
(MMA guys know how to do these thing too)
So do the principles of trapping, centerline, vertical punching, and a square-shouldered stance immediately suck if you can't fight dirty?
...or did they just suck to begin with?
