@straycatdevil HAHA. The Beatles I agree are over-rated, Led Zeppelin how ever? No. Just because "Stairway To Heaven" is a very popular song does not mean Zeppelin is over-rated...They have a LOT of really obscure songs..
@straycatdevil 41 years old disqualifies anyone on being an expert opinion on music. You are the same person that posted a comment that the Beatles completely suck too.
This is not the best version of No Quarter not even close & by the way Page's playing here is way off anybody who thinks that this is their best version doesn't know what they are talking about.... "The Song Remains The Same" version is great although it is heavily edited also the 1975 version fron Earls Court is excellent & yes it blows this version away - Page was a big time junkie at this time so his playing suffered because of it... you can easily tell!
@17ledzep It's just ok..... I'm sorry but to me Page's solo just doesn't seem in tune with the rest of the band now maybe it's just me but I don't see anything great about his playing here... but its just my opinion....
@ogrebattle22763 It's great for Page at that time. They must have weened him off the heroin for this performance. If you want to be shocked, watch the "since I've been loving you" from the same show. The solo is very hot. I did just think of something. This show was probably remixed and fixed, using modern tricks.
@MrSk1111 Hey man it doesn't suck but to me it's just ok.... it certainly doesn't compare to his earlier versions from Earl's Court or Madison Square Garden or L.A. Forum etc.....
jimmy page's performance here is incredible. almost loses it at 6:45 though... but maybe on purpose? iono.
it's strange though then that he goofed up so badly during other performances at knebworth. not only that, but it was from the second night.. which supposedly didn't go so well.
Sometimes when they perform a song and depending on the song, Jimmy will play a long solo. Then when he's about done, he signals Bonham to play the next part. Sometimes by a guitar riff, sometimes by certain movements on stage, dance movement, swinging arm movements, or just flat out waving to him. Then Bonham does a huge drum riff/fill, and then Jones follows the cue of the drums. I've seen the same method a lot in Zeppelin, Page/Plant, and Jimmy solo. Hey, It works!
IMO one of the finest examples of Led Zeppelin. Pagey is in another dimension here, and I love how in the Knebworth version he goes from stardust-fancy to greasy-dirty in one run. Outta this world!!!
i like this no quater cuz it looks like jonsey is having fun and he plays it effortless like he program to do it the best song with jones on keyboards
Can someone please post the other nights vesion of this song. it used to be here but was removed for some reason. does anyone out there no why it was removed?
JP Jones' bass playing is what got me started playing bass years ago, and now I am taking piano lessons and can only hope to cover his performance before I die. Incredible!!!!
shut up,not everybody here is speking english as well as you because of the simple fact that many people that surfing in youtube are not from USA or England or any other country that English is their main language...
Ummmm, I was speaking in reference to my OWN typing. Geeeeeeeezzzzzzz.Look at my prior entry to see my typo. "picks" was meant to be "picked" The entry that offended you so was me correcting myself.
What Jimmy does between 1:23 and 1:37 .....my God....such passion. Same with JpJ and the rest of the band of course......but man.... JImmy! I wish JPJ would have pickes up Jimmy's Les Paul from time to time too. He has fire like Jimmy.
This is a wonderful version. 3:51 sounds very Aaron Copland style, and the solo in Part 1 sounds more Jazz inluenced. Clearly one of the most versatile musicians in Rock.
The late 70's version of No Quarter is so much different than the Song Remains the Same version. This version is much more Jazz influenced and less of a horror movie feel.
Damn... I had a Knebworth No quarter version with solos even better than this. And of course, I have lost it during Great Windows Collapse (thanx Bill...) Do you guys know something about it (it was only mp3, I'm afraid)? I'd be very thankfull...

@ogrebattle22763 Sad, but true. By '77 Page was long into his heavy heroin addiction. The '75 versions from Dallas & Seattle (The Nobs) are the best.
