hey fools why focus on the facts of things that happened decades ago. give the man a break! lets give him the credit thats due to him for being the music genius that he is. i was particularly impressed by the song 'hwahwa ndakahurega', especially the mbira. its so sad that our very own musical instrument is more appreciated in foreign lands than in our own. our youngsters idolise the likes of P. Diddy and Jayzee and yet they never can any acclaim for that. i feel so proud to be Zimbabwean
im from murewa and very happy that mapfumo was honest enuff to mention that bhustsu mutandarika originated from there, I grew up watchn this music in the villages
this song brings back those memories alive, days of the struggle..never knew we will be still be struggling in Zimbabwe this tym arond ,under the" King Devil "himself.
Thomas should do more of this. It is a much overlooked fact that Jonah Sithole was the actual father of modern mbira music, because he was the one that started imitating the mbira on the guitar when Thomas was still doing Elvis and gospel. It took Jonah some time to get Thomas to join. After Jonah had left for the last time in 1988, Thomas just gave up looking for a mbira guitar player that good and just put the mbira there. To hear some of their work together, check my page and others.
