  • Michael Casswell completely out played Bonamassa

  • mike casswell great stuff.very impressive!

  • casswell looks like David Spade :)

  • awesome playing but im not too keen on the tone..

  • if that is a class 5 I see behind joe, reckon he is just going straight into it?

  • the first time I've ever seen joe b miss a note 1:49:00 just pointing it out because I'm amazed by him and its refreshing to hear him make a mistake. ( I know he's improvising.. but that note seemed like a little out of the scale) he is human after all!

rock on Joe and Michael! you both inspire me!

  • I know that it's an interview, but I was thoroughly entertained. DebFromMaine

  • KILLER BLUES!!!!

  • So bloody talented. Musical bliss.

  • two legends!

  • joe joe joe!!!!!!!!!!! love that sound!!!!!!

  • who thought Bubbles could play such mean blues ?

  • That 59 Les Paul......!!

  • oouch... that was the roughest sound i've ever heard from a tyler.. playing is good though man!

  • Joe Bonamassa and Les Paul !!! =)

  • улетел!!!

  • 1:08 - 1:15 is some dam nice improvisation!

  • I love the tone of the strat.

  • Hate the tone of the strat

  • Cass sounds a lot like michael lee firkins! both terrific players!

  • But.... can he play smoke on the water?

  • Two wonderfull examples of what two masters of the axe do best, in two diffrent but matching ways. No comparisons should be made, cannot be made here, if they played this as a spontanious improvisation, you just have to hand it to both players, its a magnificent piece of tightness, and craft mastery. I will add ! I heard danny Kirwan and Peter green play a very similar piece in the late 1960s, and showed much of what todays guitarists have developed.

Exellent, well done Mike / Joe.

  • Each of their solos match their shirts. Somehow.

  • This is the best pure guitar video I've seen in a while.

  • Joe showing off his 59 Les Paul and he gets wasted by Mike Caswell - just love it - Caswell's phrasing is just stunning.

  • To be honest

I prefer Casswell's part in this

  • Great jam session!

  • for me this is a eargasm

specialy when bonamassa playsthe LP i Love The LP sound

  • I sensed a big Jeff Beck running through Casswell. These little gems are why I do YouTube.

  • I didn't know that Laurent BLANC played guitar!

  • I don't know why but to me Joe doesn't sound so good as people say he is. They are far better blues players than him. Pentatonic shred with bluesy bends...Mike in the other hand played more music than licks.

  • @francisco444

    whatever you say dude!

  • @bomdelux No way! I prefer Casswells tone. It's certainly not terrible. Very Beck. Anyway, they prob had to use practice amps for convenience.

  • Mikes amp sound terrible, you can hear the thick tone of the guitar trying to come through but the amp just sounds thin and brittle. Both Michael and Joe played brilliantly, as usual.

  • ngh that class 5 sounds SO GOOD. marshall really nailed it with those

  • SEX FOR YOUR EARS with this two blues titans. The best part of the video is when Joe and Mike finish and Joe says :"With a guitar player like that, why they need me? -Laughs-"

  • wow he lost so much weight i mean joe bonamassa

  • if bonamassa play the rythm for you...then you know which you are good!!!

  • Nice comment from Joe in the end:-)

  • Wow - Caswell is great. Somewhere between Bonamassa and Guthrie Govan.

  • I much prefer Joe Bonamassa's style of playing to Mikes, it's much more tasteful and soulful, not a fan of sweepy blues.. but each to their own

  • @aaronmarvel93 mate, it would be alright if u had video's of u playing guitar, but u don't so leave

  • Joe, take a breather man! Very nice though, is that a class 5 hes playin through? wow

  • these guys suck, im better

  • Absolutely, friggin' awesome!

  • I dont mean to show off... But I know about 5 chords... D is my bitch

  • @DrPeanuts93 fucking lol

  • @DrPeanuts93 then you'd better get a chord book,or learn how to invert those 5 chords

or else you'll become the bitch

  • Great combo!

  • Very Cool !!

  • mike casswell is unreal

  • крутой блюз klassssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • TWO OF THE BEST!!,.JOE`S ALWAYS GREAT,.AND MICHAELS PLAYIN REMINDS ME OF JEEF BECK,.THEY CHANGES IN STYLES ARE GREAT!,.SURE MAKES US UDDER GUITAR PLAYERS LOOK LAZY!,.HEY WAIT!,.I RESEMBLE THAT REMARK!!,..IF YA EVER GET THE CHANCE TA SEE,.ETHER ONE OF THESE GUYS!!,.BREAK A LEG TA DO IT,.YOU WONT BE DISAPONTED!!,.OH,.AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

  • "real" les paul 59?

  • @johndoe6156 Yepp, sure is..

  • Absolutely inspiring!

  • The way Joe plays what he plays is amazing, the tone, the phrasing etc. Caswell is a little more creative with his licks, both brilliant

  • Holy crap. Bonamassa is a god.

  • It's like a wonderful half pint of guiness with a half of dry cider thrown in a pint glass, delicious.

  • FOR FUCKS SAKE, I MIGHT AS WELL GIVE UP NOW AFTER SEEIN THAT, EXCELLENT.

  • @liamepiphone1959 Nope, i won't let you :P You might as well use this as an inspiration, use it for some ideas for your own playing, thats what i do with amazing guitar performances.

  • that tapping lick by the strat guy was aweful

  • Joe, you've made me love Blues again! You rock baby!!

  • I think that is Joe's '59 he is playing. "The Skinner Burst" Wow, what a tone. Ive watched this over and over. Awesome!!

  • Shut up idiots, Joes the best, he's not eddie van halen or steve vai or satriani, he fucking plays the guitar.

  • wow.... casswell definitley earned that one! I love joe b. But that was definitely caswell's moment!

  • Exquisite. This was a beautiful blend of complementary styles from two astonishingly gifted players who were *listening* to each other.

  • his guitar is named after me. bad ass

  • THAT WAS FUN!

  • Both fantastic players but I was astounded by Michael Caswell here - just stunning - not very often Joe gets blown away - but he did this time.

  • Joe, the answer to your question is simple: "We need you because of your taste." When are you coming to Argentina?

  • Caswell is a beast, but i prefer Joe's phrasing on this one

  • It's obvious... Joe, get that Strat out of it's case and start playing like you did when you were 17...!!

  • makes me want to grow my fingernails

  • Casswell Win!!

Bonamassa is great but in this video the phrases idea of michael are beatiful!!

  • Comment removed

  • there's a lot of steve lukather in casswells solo

  • @axelnilson

Lots of jef Beck there i'd say, I see what you're about with the nod to Luke, but let's not forget who Luke's hero is, Mr Beck!

  • Bonamassa is ridiculously amazing, but that aside.. realize he's playing over the rhythm of one single guitar. Take a step back from the lead and listen to Casswell's playing, very Dynamic, simply outstanding rhythm and structure. These 2 are a great match.

  • Caswells sounded a little bit like Jeff Beck =)

  • What kind of guitar is Michael playing? I've seen the dude from The Black Mages play the same guitar, but i thought it was a one of a kind.

  • Comment removed

  • @rishino Tyler burning water ;)

  • Who is the ONE idiot....

  • @rgbrin make that 3 idiots. (I thumbed up)

  • I never get tired of watching (and listening) to these two outstanding guitarist play in this video. I would love to have a recording of this duet. This is how you respect your craft.

  • @IIReCremisi. What utter rubbish you are talking. Each run and lick Casswell is playing works perfectly over each chord they are jamming over, and you certainly could not change the order of his solo. Joe is utterly fantastic too, but is mainly sticking to pentatonic shapes, and is a lesson in how good pentatonics can sound.

  • It seems that Bonamassa wasn't very inspired, but his lead playing always have structure...Casswell is very good, but you can cut bars from his solo and put them in any order you like... interesting ideas, but little overview on the improvvisation....

  • Michael's style seems more impressive on the surface, but there is a whole world of skill behind Joe's playing that is just as amazing. Both incredible musicians, they're just very different from each other. It's not a matter of who's better or worse.

  • no questions, two very great big blues guitarists

  • Stop wining about how Caswell is better than Bonamassa. They're soo different on the scale of blues guitarists. Chalf and Cheese, Les Paul and Strat.

COuld be seen as a modern Jeff Beck and Clapton duo haha

  • @ThePurplejaguar Also, there is a reason Joe is renowned, his licks are just as exquisite

  • It's odd how joe starts chewing his gum again at the end (4:33), having not chewed it at all through out the solo.

  • omg so awesome !!!!! any tabs? :P

  • Unlike most of the comments , I much prefer Joe's playing here. Seems to tell more of a story, rather than being totally balls out from the beginning.

    Just a personal preference though.

  • Mike is the new god. A modest One.

  • Casswell better than Bonamassa

  • @Lagsmirobl AT this level, neither is better just different both are very good.

  • @1dozer I agree, ok. I prefer Casswell's way to play ;)

  • Both of these guys are monster players....go man go...8)

Is that a class 5 marshall amp behind joe?

  • @drivers1959 It is! Either he's not playing it, or having some kind od pedal or MAN he must be cranking that thing to get that break. Haha, heard that those amps are loud as fuck.

  • I like Caswell's fingerstyle and Bonamassa blues licks!

    xD

  • Mike is a damn tasty player here.

  • Cool !!! Good tone !

  • Sometimes I do wish Joe would turn his tone knob up a little.

  • I think that Joe was impressed

  • It's like watching a modern Clapton/ Beck jam :)

  • BONAMASSA IS GOD

  • Haha jeez $150K Les Paul into $300 Class 5. Still great.

  • Some hints of Guthrie Govan in Caswell's playing? Great stuff

  • gotta love that strat tone. Shame Joe sold his soul to Gibson ;-)

  • Bonamassa has a beautiful tone, but some of Caswells ideas here were exquisite.

  • He Is Blues

  • @KotowTV. Dude, if you think either of these world class guitarists are not "playing"(quoting you), then you are indeed a huge fuckin idiot.

  • @1ocd lmao!...so true...I won't agree with the idiot part, even though it made me choke on a sandwich (lol). However I will agree on the fact that these guys are both out of this world...I mean people's expectations are monstrous these days. What more does a guitar player have to play in order to get a good word out of our mouths?? It was a fantastic jam! Thank you iguitarmag !

  • What a sweet guy Joe Bonamassa is :) Sucha great person :)

  • great!

  • sweet:)

  • Mike can fuckin' play !!!

  • Mike can fucking play !!!

  • @BigDDe. I've been following him for a while. He is a big session dude and does the lick library DVDs .He is Working on his album at the moment. Think it's gonna be cool.

  • Casswell is the man!

  • Sublime

  • Call me crazy, but I liked Michael's playing more than Joe's.

    Wonderful players.

  • @Cirytan91 My first thought too.... almost felt ashamed of it, but mike play really great here.

  • @Cirytan91 Yes but guess which one i considered to be "playing"....

  • @BigDDe Don't you mean awesome players! plural.

  • @1ocd Heah Yeah they are both awesome. I was agreeing with you about Casswell holding his own. Never heard of him.

  • @newkurasowa . I think Casswell could hold his own with any player.

  • @1ocd I agree. Awesome player. Love it when joey does shit like this.

  • Just beautiful to watch and listen too. Big up to Michael for holding his own against Joe

  • I honestly just prefer the tone of a les paul to any other guitar

  • Awesome jam !!!!

  • really loved Michales playing in this

  • love em both both awesome players

  • Mike is intimidated by no one, great player... would love to hear more of this stuff.

  • @MrNebelful. He looks cool. He always looks cool.

  • michael looks very 70's

  • i love Michael's face at the end! Speaks volumes for Joe!

  • kickass, Joe's tone sort of reminds me of Peter Frampton's tone, very unique and sounds unbelievable

  • which scales ?

  • Joe has a great dynamic range.

  • ;-) tabs ?? Question: Is the note on 1:48 right or wrong ??

  • @torgos Wrong in my opinion. But what a recovery! If I hit a bum note it all stops for me with a loud "FUCK!!!" Ha Ha

  • @torgos i dont know because it doesnt sound wrong at all but i think joe dont want to play that note so i think it is wrong

  • @torgos there is no really wrong... but if he didn't want to play that note it's kind of wrong for him.

I don't think it's wrong, it's a jazzy lick: B flat and then slide up from A flat to A. the scale is Am

  • Wow. So cool. 2 great guitar players. What a gent Joe is. Loved it.

  • very cool

  • fucking amazing.

  • genius..........

  • Very Sweet!! Put that awesome tune on CD Please!!

    ;)

  • a James Tyler and a 59' Gibson THE HOLY GRAIL !!

  • Thats was just .......simply amazing

  • Beautiful stuff guys! What's the name of the song in the rhythm...it's on the tip of my tongue and can't figure it out!!

  • @TheArchNinja Bit like a vamped up version of "The Thrill has Gone" but played in A instead of B minor....

Really lovely guitar sounds and approach to these simple chords. Love it!

  • @Toraboramusic Thanks! Yes, it sounds incredible.

  • awesome jam!

  • Magic moment!!
