  • I think you guys are hating... it's easy to say stuff behind the comp screen. Look at 1:02... the way he shift, there is nothing wrong. He is not riding on the clutch nor was it a slow shift... so easy with the hating. He may need to take the CDV out and get a new clutch though. It does sound like it's slipping. Otherwise it's a sick car

  • AP2 S2000's have what's called a (CDV) Clutch Delay Valve. It basically keeps the clutch from dropping hard to matter how hard you try to ease stress on the drivetrain.

    Canculate the weight of the car and the theoretical DF of the air dam it is less than 1% of the total.

    If the car weighed 1,600lbs - it would be different and the speed it became effective would be lower.

  • Ok, I racked my brain trying to figure out a simply way to explain it to you - but I alrea got it as simple as I can. I will make one final attempt. Unless he takes corners at 120+ any downforce generated by the air damn is useless. The weight of the car itself is more than enough to keep the wheels on the ground, during cornering and at speed.

    That Erector Set may indeed produce DF, it is negligible for this car - since it is ~3,000 pounds and wont give it any quantifiable advantage.

  • ill help you. excess mass is the worst thing for a car, ruins acceleration, handling and braking. However the heavier a car is the more therectical 'grip' the car has due to the incresed traction, however this goes unoticed as the disadvantages of weight out weigh the advantages. downforce created through the use of wing and splitters by sacrafising the drag coefitant , it is a way of artifitially increasing the cars wieght on the road, howver the 'mass' of the car remains unchanged.

  • this means you get all the advantages of more wieght ie the added grip levels. but none of the draw backs, including worse accelaration, braking etc.. the only disadvantage is increase the downforce by a rear wing is more aerodynamical drag. so 'justinaurelius' downforce created by a rear wing does produce more darg!

    The problems of added weight can be solved with better brakes and better suspension.

    Just slapping a wing on this thing is detrimental.

  • 1. First off increased wieght can't be solved by just uprating the brakes and suspension, because the increase in tyre friction isnt directly proportional to the percentage added mass. so an increase in wieght by 20%, won't result in 20% more grip.

    I agree that the s2000 isnt a top speed car, what i disagreed with was when you said somthing like the... more downforce doesnt create more drag, which it does caus the only way downforce can be created is by compromising the drag coefficent.

  • Drag be definition is opposite of thrust. Therefore downforce is not drag.

    Let's also not forget as the car accelerates weight shifts to the ass (arse?) giving it more friction against the surface of the road.

    Therefore the wing = useless.

    From now on I'm not calling it a wing or spoiler.

    In a F1 car the vehicle is so lite and it accelerates so fast the downforce is a force to be reckoned with.

    I drive an Acura - sans wing.

    even at 130, the wing won't do much unless it is wind tunnel tested. Actually if anything it will increase drag. The S2000 weighs in at 2,800 pounds, too heave for a wing to be of any use, it already has enough weight to keep the wheels on the ground.

    The only time wings help are when the car is stripped down to the bare essentials. The airbag systems alone weigh a few hundred pounds.

    Every S2K I cant get around, or that is able to pass me ON TRACK has a WING period, because everyone---accept Bro-racer-posers--knows the S2K produces a lot of rear-end lift at speed and are very twitchy.
