I go to Item World when I can. Else I grind on the most recent maps tossing enemies into each other and taking out "stronger" enemies that way.

hey where did you go to train your weapon skills? i started a new game and im at this point and ive only unlocked the druid. most of my weapon skills are at 2... and if i remember right you need at least 5 in gun for gunner and 3 in spear for heavy knight

It's possible to unlock the druid before stage 1-1. As for level weapons, the best way is patience and using people with higher ranks in those weaponry fields. Just keep using a single character to play through a quick stage using the weapon type, you'll get there.
