  • a critical fuck up would be in 2:09 he throws both his arms up and the music is still going

  • @carson11100 Organs have foot petals : that's it , that's the ticket . ( But you 're probably right ; it is a fuckup .

  • Pretty linens for first murder victim, like the greek key design . If I woke up & saw any kind of bat in my room, a new world record for sprinting would be set. Fantastique movie.

  • 8:30.. Oh NO! He's gonna be eaten alive by...fruit bats?

  • I am trying to figure out a movie from the 70's similar to this but the only scene I remember was a figure in a cape like Dr phibes and a girl steps in a shower and the caped person turns the heat up on the shower from the outside (?steam?) and she burns to death or melts. I watched it on TV with my dad and thought it had one these great old horror guys in it.

  • This is one movie I never got over from childhood. Now I can watch it not sleep with the lights on!

  • ONE OF HIS GREASTEST FILMS EVER DONE I SAW THIS WHEN I WAS 12 SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME AT ONE SCENE I LEFT THE AUDITORM FOR A BRIEF MOMENT THEN RETURNED TO WATCH REST OF FILM(THE BLOOD SCENE WITH TERRY THOMAS BEING BLED TO DEATH.REST IN PEACE YOU MOVIE STAR A.O. CHICAGO

  • Where are the lines, "Love means never having to say you're ugly.", deos anybody know where they are?

  • @criptopus The line was used on the movie poster, with a photo of Virginia North and Price in full makeup posing as if they are about to kiss.(Source:''Sacred Monsters:Behind the Mask of the Horror Actor''. Author , Doug Bradley)

  • Although uncredited, Caroline Munro played his wife Virginia.

  • Keith Moon was seeing this movie while he died ... Rest in peace sweet drummer !

  • Fruitbats have such adorable faces... even when they've been trained to eat human flesh.

  • Im 13, and I love this Movie

  • I've always been facsinated wtih the character of Vulnavia. Who is she? Why is she helping Phibes? What would happen if PHibe's wife was to return, how would she take that? Lots of questions are raised that we can only guess at. I like the mystery of it all.

  • thumbs up if you came here because of Keith moon(the legend) :)

  • MR PRICE IS PRICELESS THE # 1 GREASTEST HORROR ACTOR OF ALL TIME IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD ALSO THE PLANET..................SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF ME SIR........JOB WELL DONE R.I.P.FROM AO CHICAGO

  • @123456789034038 Ha ha , Keith Moon's favourite film !

  • He's Batman..;)

  • Any remake is bad. It would be too bloody and gory and not concentrate on the story. BAD IDEA. Some classics should be left as they are.

  • CLASSICO DESSE IMORTAL ATOR !!

    VINCENT PRICE !!

  • @shirtgod ever seen saw? that's the remake.

  • Best. Opening. Scene. EVER.

  • @Eurt76

Yes. Very, very badass. RIP Mr. Price.

  • Why would he be afraid of fruit bats?

  • one thing i never quite figured out is how he got such a sweet girl to help him kill those doctors.

  • I remember watching this with my dad when I was a little kid.

  • hi zombie dust, i know the film you mean but all i know is that peter cushing was in one of the stories - so check out his filoms and you will find it

  • I CAME HERE BECAUSE EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH !!..

  • awww....look at the little bats and-OH MY GOD THEY'RE EATING ME! AHHHH!!!

  • i think this is the origin of saw and se7en

  • Horror fans...I know this is off topic, but I would like know if you can help me with the title of the movie/movie-vignette I saw in the mid 1970's as a teenager?

The plot revolved around a sadistic Master of a home, for the blind and crippled. They got their revenge upon him by trapping him in a completely darkened plywood maze lined with razorblades. Yup, they ended up killing him!

  • @ZombiedustXXX Hi! that is tales from the crypt...if you look up Joan Collins - Tales...it should come up. It is the last of the five stories....

  • @ZombiedustXXX This is one of the stories from a horror anthology film. The name of it escapes me for the moment. I am looking into this as of rigt now!.

  • Fantastic opening! Some good action right from the start. AIP scores here...now I'm off to view the rest.

  • Who says you can't act with your back?,Vincent Price could!

  • this is incredibel !!!! thank you !!!!!

  • I love Vincent Price. Very few humans had such a perfect speaking voice.

  • What a woman mmmmm Ding Dong

  • Those bats were such cute fuzzy things. I'd have made a fuss of them!

  • This opening alone shows that horror movies aren't all slashing and torturing. Films like the German Expressionist horrors, Universal and Hammer's classics, the Val Lewton produced movies, Eraserhead, and this show that the genre can also be beautiful and artistic with a bit of comedy even if the people in the scene are homicidal maniacs. You get all sorts of things from the genre when done well. It's sad that today horror can't be as good as the silent era to the eighties.

  • Sublime opening,

    Love never dies.

    Kudos.

  • hmm been meaning to catch this since 1972 when the other kids were talking abo

    ut it.

  • Dr Phibes was the predecessor to Jigsaw

  • @MrLolcatsXD

I'd rather say that Jigsaw is a rather poor imitation of Dr. Phibes.

  • thumbs up if you heard about this movie from cinemassacre's monster madness!

  • So outrageously campy -- I love it! Love that organ music. Too bad they didn't give the organist mention in the credits. Does anyone know who the organist might have been?

  • @kraftpr Nicolas Kynaston

  • Dr Potato Head.

Kidding, this is one of the best movies ever.

  • i love this movie Vincent Price is great in this movie RIP Vincent you are truly missed

  • Wow, four tunes and a murder in under 10 minutes! That Dr Phibes is quite a guy!

  • @fundude365 he didnt waste any time

  • One of my most favorite movies ever and I mean EVER!...I wish this was put together as a full movie on here. Good thing I got the dvd of Dr.Phibes and Dr. Phibes rises again

  • Bless Phibes, the man of tomorrow!

  • Man, he REALLY likes music!

  • "serialised?" does that mean there been edits :-( ?

  • Does anyone know where to get this on DVD at a reasonable price?

  • @jhuger Search for it on Amazon.com -- you can get both Dr. Phibes & Dr. Phibes Rises Again on one DVD. Just checked at Amazon and they're showing $6.99 for the double feature DVD. Worth it! I think. I own it -- it's a double-sided DVD with added trailers.

  • QUITE A CIVILIZED MAN , A DECEANT MAN, SLEEPING ON COMFY BED, SAYING HIS PREYERS...

oh what pity fate to befall afterwqards..

  • love vincent price.rip

  • the best campy flick ever... i seriously wanna re-make it a little less camp a little more tech, and a lot more scary

  • That was a fruit bat.

  • @XxBowieTipxX yeah that exactly what i said.

  • This music is just so perfect for VIncent Price.

  • What a great, great movie, maybe Price's best.

  • @scorekeepn You may be right, and some of his others were pretty good too!

  • interesting and creepy so far. this band is spooky!

  • THANK YOU for posting this! I adore this movie.

  • The horror movie with style.

This is one of my top 10 movies of all time.

  • Isn't this just utterly marvelous,What a brilliant idea these two Flicks were.Hugely entertaining and very very funny. The Frog Mask is easily the "best" dark sinister gag I have ever seen and heard in a Film. When the poor bastard says "it's jolly tight in here"

I can think of no other Film which even comes close to that one.Delivered by the utter

Master of Camp Horror the Genius Vincent Price, R.I.P. Vincent you brought a lot of culture and happyness to the World.

  • I always thought Vulnavia was so beautiful. I never thought the fruit bat thing was a blooper. I'm pretty sure they weren't going to go around looking for vampire bats. lol

  • @ChrissyDior22 yes she was.

  • @ChrissyDior22 i agree: enven the vampire bat try to get a human, or rather just a little blood

  • This was back when they put some real thought into making a great horror movie. And Vincent Pirce was perfect for the role.

  • James Rolfe is right, this guy IS like Jigsaw!

  • @chinangel actually, one of the jigsaw 's trap (the mask) come from this movie

  • Classic horror with a master (Vincent Price)

  • Ok, one blooper- these are fruit-eating bats, not vampire-bats. Wrong nose.

  • How can i get this song on my i pod

  • @godzillaman1954X

It's "War March Of The Priests", played on a pipe organ. It's tough to find it on a pipe organ, so I'll gladly share what I found! I've got the one Sean Jackson did. You can download it at amazon. Search: "Sean Jackson Organ Favorites Volume I" It's track 5 :D

  • @PeloquinsGirl This is Felix Mendelssohn song in the movie though.

  • I hope to god that they dont do a remake

  • @NETWORK23STUDIOS: Wholeheartedly seconded. VERY wholeheartedly seconded.

  • @WarmasterJoshmaul Thank YOU for agreeing. I wish that Vincent would've done the third sequel. BUT sadly it was never done. But we still have 2 BRILLIANT movies where we ROOT for the awesome VILLAIN!!!. R.I.P. Vincent Price!!!

  • @NETWORK23STUDIOS That's right,. they will ruin it like they always do!

  • Tim Burton makes love with this playing in the background.

  • "Love never says you're ugly!"

  • haha! this is posted under people and blogs!

  • my dad made me watch all the vincent price films on vhs, his best works are the UK films like this.

  • LOL DOCTOR PHIBES!!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! I INCLUDED DR. PHIBES IN MY 'TOP 25 SEXIEST CELEBRITIES' VIDEO!!! I loved watching this and the sequel on Svengoulie! He's hilarious.

  • Vulnavia was/is the spirit of vengeance.

  • @dooney78 personally, I'd not bother bringing the wife back to life, and I'd settle down with Vulnavia!

  • @NETWORK23STUDIOS --There were actually *four* sequels planned, believe it or not. As Price was in ill health they scrapped it and didn't try to go ahead with a different lead, though David Carradine was considered at one point.

@xxxKINGFROGxxx --Vulnavia was actually a clockwork robot. It was in the original script, though in the film it's simply implied.

  • This is a Milestone in Horror Movies.

  • very convinient ,but i never seen a sleeping room with a roof opening bahahaha

  • @SteveBishart QUALITY Doctors like Quality asistant girls...

  • i am soooo excited right now!!!!=D

  • Oh no! Harmless fruit-bats! Quick somebody SAVE HIM!

  • These are no ordinary harmless fruit bats: These are evil, highly trained NINJA fruit bats!

  • lol, remides me of "Holes", oh no, beaded Dragons, the least harmful lizards used as props in place of terrible, venimous lizards!!!

  • But it worked, because the Doctor was a

Fruit himself! I did notice that the Bats

had very gentle loving eyes! SO CUTE!!!!

  • Oi, Handonrip, for one, there aren't any Muslims posting here, so I don't see the point of you coming o with your nonsense.

Most people have come to this link to enjoy the brilliant work of escapism that is Dr.Phibes. You're ruining the buzz by posting this al-Qaeda/Zionist garbage that we get enough of on that tv programme called The News.

Go on, fuck of.Or else, thou Shalt Feel My Wrath.Mwhah ha ha ha ha!You weel be Dooooomed!Victoriiiiaaaa!

  • Yessss, but the rest of us were trying to enjoy this wonderful film. I'm sure there are plenty of right wing hate sites you can indulge your frivolous fantasises in there. So now, jog on...

  • Thanks for posting this timeless classic I love vincent Price in anything !

  • @Gillyyorkie absolutely sadistic...and I love british movies...and that poor guy at the end of clip always end up dying as a pervet..in all movies i watched..

  • @Gillyyorkie I agree wholeheartedly with you..Vinny Price in anything...I miss him...he is in a class with Karloff, Lugosi, Lon Chaney, Jr, et al.

  • @Gillyyorkie Me too!

  • OMG, I love this movie. It's a bit creepy and I guess that's why I love it...LOL!! This is Vincent Price at his best. Thanks for this clip.

  • ATTENTION ALL WHO WANT TO INSULT SOMEONE WITHOUT KNOWING FACTS!!

Flying foxes are a type of bat. They're a fruit bat actually, but they are known as flying foxes. So if someone calls them flying foxes on here don't insult them and call them a dumb ass because you're the idiot.

  • LMAO!!!

  • WHO WAS THAT MASKED MAN?

  • I read that Keith Moon was watching this movie on the night he passed on.

  • Anyone else think the flying fox close up was cute?

  • Flying foxes are pretty cute, but they have a nasty set of teeth on them!

  • flying fox is a pretty cool guy, eh gets close ups and doesn't afraid of anything

  • dumb ass those are bats

  • Looks like my chuahua!

  • wtf u retard they were bats

  • Flying foxes ARE bats. Please try Google before insulting people.

  • google deez

  • Fucking Awesome...ownage!

Check out Dr Phibes by Angelwitch.

  • love the passion between Phibes and Victoria his dead wife!

  • one of thee greatest opening scenes in all of film

  • What timing! I just picked up both Dr. Phibes movies (and "The House of Usher") on DVD. It's a Vincent-O-Thon! Lovely to have it on YT, though: I can listen to it while I work. Thank you, BVSM3. :)

Hmmm....I wonder if any more Price/Corman gems will come our way soon? The one I would dearly love to see is the Price/Reeves "The Witchfinder General" (aka "The Conqueror Worm). A very hard to find film...at least around here.

  • awsome,thanks very much,,great film,vincent price,king of the horror movies.

  • Ok, theories on the nature of Vulnavia-- I think she's Dr. Phibes' most complex wind up toy. Anyone else?

  • *thinking it over*

You know, I like it! She's so stately and precise in her movements (and obviously, so very lovely). Phibes considers his wife absolute perfection, an automaton WOULD be the only beautiful woman he could bear to be around. And the only thing he could count on to precisely perform his.....errands.

(Of course you'd have to ignore the early drafts, which have her being killed off in several rather nasty and inventive ways. Picky, picky....)

  • yes -- she is a vulva by nature

  • Actually if you watch the sequel they show that she definitely isn't human. She seems to be some sort of magical creature, cause Phibes calls her back to life out of some mirror or something (its been years.). She aint a human being though.

  • That's as much what i base the idea on as anything in this movie, though again, there's no telling what the original intent of the writers were here.

  • Oh yeah God knows. This movie was like cinematic LSD.
