  • Don't knock it 'till you try it. That's what I always say. Just download the trial, print out the proxies, and play a game before you say anything negative about it. I for one have played it and LOVE the game (it's the only wargame I can get my closed-minded friends to play) and even if you don't like the game the minis are still cool. The Emissarius would look fantastic for 40k Apocalypse...

  • Having looked at this now I definitely think there is a market for it. The models are very nice and the starter kit is a great price. No question. I will certainly be picking this one up

  • Now that this game has been out and actively played for a while it might be a good time to take another look at it. Game play is incredably deep, competitive but fair. No more lifting a unit only to replace it 1/4 inch closer so a shot that wasn't there now becomes available. No more "Hey you didn't let the dice roll properly" and the typical problems we have all encountered. The pc considers so many modifiers and adjustments that it would be impossible to play a game this deep without a pc

  • @gebus3255

I also can't believe how fun the game play is. We get kids as young as 8 coming to use the store house armies to get in games. No huge codex or manual to read, but those that like the stats can get as much flavor and stats as they like with the game wiki. It can take into consideration so many aspects, modifiers and rules without a player needing to know them all. It would take 10 hours to play a game this deep if you didn't have the pc. But with it, 40 minutes...

  • To follow on. Whats everyones problem. I like the models and collecting them. I enjoyed many of the features. My only concern is that the game to start with is too complicated for games players how are normal calculate their own odds in thier head. This can lead to deattachment and a feeling the computer is in control. However to counter this the game is actually very deep and strategic . Yep you could play tis just on the computer but then you would miss out collecting the minis.

  • I think that most of the people writing negitive things need to remember the following. Why bother collecting 40k when you can play dawnofwar. Some will say yep good point. Other will say - I enjoy collecting and painting models. I also like to see these physical models on the game board. both views are personal choice. Lucky the market allows both.. All this does is allow people who want to collect and paint models use a computer to help create a game too complicated to play with simple dice.

  • this demo very clearly displays how the minis aren't even remotely integral to the game. silly system.

  • if ur going to play a video game play a video game, if your going to play a tabletop wargame play a tabletop wargame. I don't like the idea of this game

  • Guys all this neat system does, with respect to other table tops, is replace dice. Thats all. It also Adds the depth of your army learning. Becoming more apt on the battle field. Giving you the ability to create a legacy with each and every unit, that EASILY translates to each and every match you play.

  • You know, its not the combination of using a computer with a table top miniatures game that's turning me off to Exillis. I think its the 4x5 square grid you play on. That's like only 20 squares. Chess has like 64. To make a game with more options of maneuvering, you'd need WAY more space for a bigger game board. Also, visually speaking, while the minis are nicely sculpted, the designs are not anything new and refreshing to look at. Just same old same old.

  • My friend is super hyped about this game. When he showed it to me, all I could think was that I've seen flash games with more depth, and that the miniatures and terrain models were just annoying tchotchkes that really don't have anything to do with the game, which takes place entirely on the pc. When you buy units, what you're really paying for is a code... the plastic is just waste.

The response: "It's about face to face interaction" but I wonder if they've ever heard of a LAN party.

  • @GroundedControl After having played the game a few times, I have to say I've changed my mind. The game has turned out to be incredibly deep, and the replay value is enormous.

The computer quickly fades into the background. My rebuttal to my own previous argument is thus: Any miniatures game could be coded and sold as a relatively inexpensive computer game. Miniatures gamers *choose* to play with physical pieces, because modelling them is part of the hobby.

  • haters are going to hate, none of you i bet who post a bad comment about this game bothers to look deeper into it, go to the website and ask on the forums, look into the wiki, read something for once. The amount of games workshop fan boys who think that warhammer is the only game in the world hate on new comers like this. Maybe you should try the game, talk to people like my self who play it and then come to understand it more rather then saying " oh its a computer game, so it is crap" wrong:P

  • @Doomtiger1991 I was merely curious, does the more experienced unit cost more to field in your muster, then a less experienced one? Cause if so then it will allow you to field more enexperienced troops, leading to a clever general swamping opposing vets in flanking movements with his superior numbers. But this game looks muchly nice :) I like the whole system I am just worried about hackers.. but that would become apperent, I would think, when you saw what your opponent fielded.

  • @arktheball

Come onto the Ex illis forum, you can talk to the devs about it. They are very active on theforums. Their is also a wiki for those people who want a rule book the wiki is the next best thing, and most of us that play exillis have printed it off.

  • So we gain a computer interface and lose an incredible amount of depth?

I am not seeing how this is an improvement in war gaming?

Just looks very simple and very unimpressive.

  • I posted a comment on this about a week ago... it seems to have disappeared???

It looks like someone has been busy with the internet magic wand, making bad comments vanish... what could they be hiding I wonder?

  • looks like abelut crap, sorry just my 50cent

  • The milieu is forced; the reasons for including the fantastic creatures like imps and angels are very weak. It seems Exillis needs its own 2.0, something that will merge the technology, milieu and miniatures into a smooth whole rather than just clumsily tacking everything together. It's not innovative, it's a gimmick.

  • Nothing breaks a game like walking from my games room to my pc in the living room to "roll a die" then back to the games room to move! did I mention my games room is in the loft Via a ladder? If this is a promo vid they are not showing the minis off very well by having them badly built and painted! PC with 2 mice! HANDY that, spill 150 euros for the plastic map boxset then 30eu for second wireless mouse oh dont forget the 300eu for a pc in the games room

  • @Ratzdinner Completely agree with you there. I worked out that it'd cost me an additional three to four hundred quid on top of the starter set in hardware.

They say the software works out the results realistically but all you see is the results on the screen so you are just taking their word for it.

Most tournaments I've played in are in local halls without power supplies so what happens then? What happens if I can't get internet connection?

Seriously not impressed by this gimmick.

  • The minis are really nice, The Plastic map is nice and better then "other companies" less flexible ones, However this is like playing a poor looking but ok gameplay pc game with a miniature based map, IE you dont need to press M to bring up map! The fact that each tile is a zone makes this closer to chess then a table top wagame it dose not matter where you are in the woods just be in the woods. EXP gain on units will lead to unmatched games surely? as it dose often on the table! max v min

  • I think you guys should actually learn about the game before you bash it, First of all, about experience.Stronger units cost more to field, not to mention you have the ability to downgrade units you own to a lower level temporarily, its all up to you. players will be playing at home/will have a laptop or a itouch with them, so that's really not much of an issue either. You complain about the "action" taking place on the computer, all it does is get rid of big ass rulebooks and endless dice rolls

  • @brycebreaksthings, why should I have to learn about it, I was drawn to WH due to fantastic minis, I was later drawn to Malifaux due to a great system, did away with dice at no great extra cost (and it works) If a new game needs you to learn all the details to draw you in its too late sale gone! TBH if I want to sit in front of a screen I play a computer game, if I want to play a mini game its at a club surrounded with mates (and beer!) not anywhere neer a pc/laptop/Ipad.

  • @Ratzdinner If you have no interest in the game, then don't bother with it, but if your going to talk about it, and list out your problems with it, problems that already have answers, it's just a waste of time and will lead others away from the game. You hardly need to learn "all the details". I found answers to your problems just by clicking on their website. As far as PC-use goes, your not just sitting in front of a screen, it's their to makes things easier so you can focus on actually playing

  • I really don't see the point of this system. Why have the board with all the miniatures if all the action is taking place on the computer?

I'd rather play total war to be honest this looks like too much work and if you don't have access to a laptop or Iphone you can't play. If you want your units to develop you need internet access and what happens once all your units are maxed out in experience?

  • This is a great miniature game, with nice minis and tactical dept! Might not seem like it with this video, but you need, and you will want, the table and miniatures to play.

  • You can practicly dont need the minis. You just need the game software and that's it.

  • What a confusing mess

  • well i dont get, why i should use any miniatures with this? actually it'll be more comfortable if it was software only

  • Software isn't taking any decisions at all. I don't know what you guys are talking about.

  • I was thinking I'd like this game, but now I am not so sure. I don't want to have software set up my table or have that much control over my choices during the game.

  • humm... what control are you talking about? Does the software take any decisions?

  • defeats the object of tabletop wargaming imo.
