Gary Lee Yoder was part of several 60's S.F. bands, including Kak, Oxford Circle & Blue Cheer.
OC and Kak were both formed in Yoder's hometown, Davis, CA, and featured the same nucleus of members. OC frequently shared the stage with greats such as The Dead & Airplane, but not achieving their level of fame. A live album was released, making #6 on Record Collector's list of reissues of '97. Kak released 1 LP in '69.
My Father's company "Record on Film" shot this music video, I remember watching this and many others projected as 16mm film prints in our basement growing up as a kid.
This looks like it was a really solid band, a little more accessible and poppy than the other San Fran bands (more like an L.A. band) but VERY GOOD and almost PROPHETIC lyrics to what is going on today: "The changes that are taking place, are the wrong ones"...I think you know
This music video was created by "Record on Film" a company created by my father William Lyons & his partner Freddy Frank. Together they created over 100 videos between 1968 & 1970.
@InterfaceArts HEY Mr. Lyons! last text was cut off. Your storie is awesome about your Dad and you getting to be there for this recording. So with all that recording there must be some other rare tracs and videos around. I'm sure you guys have "released" the cool stuff you may have. I (and others) would be interested in more details from your view about the band and what you recall. Will you share more with us? GL to you, Donald in K.C. I still have my original vinyl album.
Pretty creative drum beat there Chris! I am so jealous. I can't believe you got to make bonafied hippie music. Too Cool! Love the free form jam at the end. More Acid please!
Slightly resembles the tempo of Moby Grape's "Changes" but is still a great addition to my favorites. What blew my mind though was this band and Blue Cheer were both formed in Davis, CA later moving to San Francisco. Never thought of Davis as anything more than a small university town in the forefront of bicycling as transportation, not as a town with a thriving 60's.music culture. You learn something new everyday.
Many thanks for putting this up. Who would have thought? I interviewed Dickie Peterson a while back , he said Gary Yoder is doing fine , and he still plays out occasionally.
thanks so much beyondthebeat for posting , i get the cd 8 years ago in tianguis del chopo in mexico city ,recall it great moments , congratulation you have truly jewerlys

This looks like a clip I might have seen from "Sesame Street" or the "Banana Splits" TV show growing up. Maybe this is one of the songs the "Banana Splits" covered?
All I can say is WOW! I never thought that any video existed for this group. Great clip, excellent song, the whole KAK album is a must. Thank you so much for posting this!
What a trip! I just found out about these guys on the "Love Is The Song We Sing: San Francisco Nuggets 1965-1970" box set from Rhino. It's a GREAT collection! It's introduced me to many of the unknown S.F. bands from that time like The Mystery Trend, etc. Bands you'd see on Fillmore posters but hadn't heard. Kak has a song on there called "Lemonade Kid." This song is good, not great. It's cool seeing what a '60s MTV would've been like!
Looks like a pre '58 Les Paul Junior... worth a pretty penny today!

Great band/album.
I spoke with one from the group about 20 years ago. He said how the name came about-kak means dust in Persian.

I liked KAK's "Electric Sailor" whose lyrics, I suspect, described an acid tripper.
