Uhh nooo the tuba was not invented by wagner. youre confusing it with the "Wagner Tuba" which is not actually a tuba but a kinda variation of the french horn. The tuba was created by wilhelm wilprecht and some other guy whose name i forgot
I agree with joshopsho that it is on the verge of being too low to be played with clear tone on an F tuba. It sounds aggressive and 'blatty'. I do however, commend the amount of pitch you were able to get that low. High and mid tessitura is absolutely gorgeous though. Great playing overall and I love the bird sounds. I wish it was my practice room too. It would be nice to have that kind of reverb and have all sorts of flying things soaring with you as you play an arrangement of a Bach piece.
It is too low. Why bother playing that low on a F tuba? You've also made it sound laboured, untasteful and aggressive. Think about longer phrases. Get the urtext and some Rostrapovich and you might be nearer the mark.
this is an amazing piece. you play it so well :) i would also do the same a *phil1364* say thank you and shake ur hand :) the acoustics of where you are playing is brilliant :) really helps :) keep it up x
Awesome setting. I should do my videos in a place like this. I suggest all tuba players buy the cell suites and transpose them into whatever key they like.
This is simply amazing. I've been playing tuba for about 7 years now, and I have to say, hearing you play makes me re-appreciate how beautiful a tuba can sound. Thank you so much.
Oh such beauty in this peice. i listen to it often to relax me. i think i am the only 15 year old that listens to this sort of music, but i love it so. this is a great place to play it, gives it a magnificent sound. I look forward to many more extrodany videos from you, good job.
very nice, i have tried playing in huge archways and entrances when i get a chance just to hear how much you can fill up a room or area. Luckily my school is all open interior about 4 story high roof down the main hall so i don't have to go very far for the beauty of this. Well i got Texas all-state try-outs in two days so i need to go practice peace, and nice playing.
I've listened to all of your other stuff and I have to say that this is the biggest tribute to your sound!(Not that the other stuff wasn't pretty damn good, it was)
Hey, this sounds great. I got the impression that an F tuba doesn't have the big low range of Bflat or C Tubas, but your low range is pretty booming. Nice work.
I was born in 1974, and have never heard of that band, but was blessed enough to already be playing professionally in high school. I went to the Hamilton High School Academy of Music in Los Angeles and graduated in 1992. Thank you so much for your kind comments.
I am a young tubist and just started about a year and a half ago...you inspire me, thank you very, very much I hope I am as great as you...but what do you think..do you need to be a big person to play...because I am very small but yet my lung capcity is huge and im first chair in my band out of about 4, I really think though that you should try for a movie sound track or something...keep up the AMAZING work!!
Thank you for the kind comments. My fans on YouTube are always encouraging to me as well. And one DOES NOT need to be large like me to play the tuba. :)
you have some real talent :) for what its worth, i actually enjoyed doing my history homework with this going in the background... I can't think of a better way to spend my days than doing what you're doing right there... it seems like heaven to me :P
This arrangement is for beginners who cant play the original.

Very well done!! I now know It can be done and feel the urge to work my butt off to make the cello suites sound good on my horn.

There are parts where it is to low however there are parts done quite amazingly. I plan to play this on tuba to make an audition.

Nice setting,
when I was younger I saw this video and it inspired me to start transcribing the suites.

why do you insist on smacking the shit out of all of your low notes. it sounds terrible.

In Bach's footnotes, it actually states that the cello suites were written to be played on tuba.
True story.
crumikins 2 years ago
from my understanding bach lived in the baroque era which was from 1600 to1750
the tuba was invented by Wagner who was born in 1813

no way don't listen to those guys. they're biased, listen to the texture of the tuba's low end echo through that building, it sounds awsome.!

Hey, I am a cello player (as well as a bassoon player) and I think this piece is just as lovely on the tuba as on the cello! Great job!

I don't like the arrangement of this suite. Have played it myself, but the original key sounds much better.
