this shit is embraced by hi-brows but look up some good beat boxers and they're doing very similar things but making it funky instead of "ethereal." same goes for modern dance and breakdancing.
@lee4samurai Actually that's me that lives next door to you and I'm not throat singing. Though what I'm does involve something with the word "throat". Enough said. P.S. TRIM YOUR DAMN BUSHES! I can't see into your bathroom window with them in the way.
Overtone and throat singing is cool, but, and I mean this with ALL due respect... aren't you one of the signs of the Apocalypse? If you are, I welcome you as our new post-Rapture satanic overlord . Again, I mean that with all due respect. If you are not, then I respectfully request a tone-down of the trippy visuals. Just saying cause last night we had some stanky White Widow and, well, I'm a touch paranoid today. Just saying, is all.
Wow. Scary at first, but after reading a bit about overtone/throat singing, seems like a good way of contacting our otherworldlies. Very interesting. I like the left/right visual balance, too.

ok this throat singing sounds like he is in a room that is made of metal so the sound ecos i dont think you can do that shit with your voice except the "WAWAAAWAA" in a very dark voice
I do not understand ExtraSmokers comment because Baba James not only copies already existing techniques but he is doing his own thing here, putting some didgeridoo qualities to it. It is different of course, but very original!
If you knew anything about throat singing you'd notice the sounds...probably you only know about the whistles...look at around 1:20 thats when he starts doing that...He's not the greatest I've seen but yeah..if you see at 2:25 he's the first I've seen doing that, throat singing is about doing multiple sounds from your throat. not just about whistling with it
It seems pretty easy. I am just starting to figger this out (in my truck on the road :) ) and so far it comes out so-so when I stick my tongue behind my front teeth and relax the back of it so it forms a 'pocket' in the back. Make it smaller for the higher notes. Don't strain like you're trying to push them out. Just makes you tired. You don't have to 'oooo' real loud for you to hear the overtones. Good luck!!
i appologise. I was trying to be funny but I see that it was offensive to you. what you had to say was interesting ... So tell me is he chanting words or just the notes .. If words I would be interested to know what they are.
You are very ignorant. This is throat singing... It's also known as the One Voice Chord that utilizes 6 pitches... 3 notes per chord. It's a very hard technique; the analogy of trying to understand what he's chanting would be Peter Frampton and his Talk Box.
good singing! nothing wrong with a little dramatic body language, especially with the rhythmic style. to anyone saying otherwise: it's called artistic presence.
i don't mind the effects either.
the title is promising a lot, but then again from what i gather, the singer himself didn't upload this (he's username funketabla1) so... what's the deal you people?
Don't let the negativity get you down.. Some people just need to get out of their suburban mainstreamness and be opened and turned on to something new.. Good work.

combine whistle and throat, mix with over a millenium of heritage, add feeling to taste, a pinch of belief and bake for as long as the rest of your ideas (half should do it), then post on youtube. idiot
that was done amazingly well. awesome control of the voice. you got your kygyra(sp?) to go really low. I have a naturally deep voice and can hit a low C in a normal singing voice, but i cant even get close with my kygyra. How did you get it so low? Do you ahve an mp3 of this song that i can download?
3. I like it when groups like Chirgilchin do both traditional Tuvan songs straight up, and then do throat singing in harmony. That is truly bad-ass. My goal is to be like them. Peace, respect, love, and best musical wishes to you all.
2. I don't want to be falsely solemn. I prefer to be serious and authentic to myself and sometimes what that requires is being funny and a little strange. I'm not interested in pretending to be some sort of guru. For me that's cheesy. But for someone else it might be right on. Who am I to say? I really believe in different strokes for different folks.
1. You guys are kidding when you say this is insulting to other throat singers right? I sincerely doubt Kaigool Khovalig or Chirgilchin are threatened by me doing my own thing with throat singing. I think people should experiment and develop new forms of sound. I think it is healthy for the human race as a whole. I love rhythm so I tend towards punchy rhythmic styles. I play South Asian tabla and North African darbouka so the influence of those beats work their way into my singing.
Cool. I am glad so many of you have enjoyed this video, it was done in a spirit of fun. My friend shot it as he was visiting me in Seattle and then decided to trip out the video and audio. I like what he did, it's like he made the video sing visual harmonics! For something more straight forward try this rhythmic bit of throat singing I did at a show in Seattle: watch?v=lMYyhkE6lHs
i reckon this is quite insulting towards other troath singers in the world. Why would you need to swing your head like that? Its not for the good of the sound, thats for sure. Its really good, alright, but please dont make such a big act!

The majority of that reverb is not coming from the performer. They need big resonating chambers for the effect.
HammerOvThor 1 year ago
Was this made with effects at the time of recording or added after?
I record mine dry and add reverb later.
Nice stuff though.
