i looove this movie (the only reason i decided to rent it is b/c my name is Dawn lol)
my favorite part is when she is mouthing "fuck you" across the table to her sister and the sister doesnt look once. cracks me up so bad.
did you know that one of the working titles for this movie was "Faggots and Retards"? (i am glad it wasnt called that b/c i dont think i would have rented it then...and that would be very sad to never see it!)
i love when she refuses to say she loves her little sister missy, and stays at the dining room table all night. the part where she tells brandon that shes "in love" with another man and he gets all upset and say's what's his fucking name?!
ohhh... good memories. seriously, this movies a classic people!
Ah, a Revenge of the Nerds type movie where the put-opon heroine humiliates the mean girls, teaches inconsiderate selfish adults a lesson, gets the better of her spoiled sibling and gets the hottest guy.
NOT!! THIS movie reflects the REAL world. The Nerd is beaten down from beginning to end and it STAYS that way!
I feel so sorry for this girl. kids at school bring her down, and her parents make her life completely terrible unstead of help and support they just ignore her problems.
Hi PacoAyte. The film is hard to watch but she's no two dimensional character, only good and no evil. Remember the scene when, late at night, she went to pick a hammer to bash her little sister during her sleep. She is as hateful as the people surrounding her. That's why I like Todd Solondz movies. In the other hand, in themovie "Carrie" by Brian De Palma, Sissy Spacek is always lovely and a victim till the end and when she takes her revenge somehow viewers take her side. Here nobody wins.
@PacoAyte It's reality, there really are some people out there that don't get to have a happy ending, thats the message these shitty movies nowdays teach people, this movie is proof that not everything ends all happy like everyone wants it to
Bully kids turn into bully adults. I hated High School and all the anxiety i was put through because i was awkward, shy and considered ugly by mainstream standards. It didn't end at High school though. Some people are born just to make others life Hell!. I sincerely hope all those who picked on me developed disgusting diseases and unwanted facial hair. I love this movie.
Bullies are just people who try to put others down to give themselves a sense of superiority to compensate for their insecurities. They're cowards is what they are.

Well, you can't really blame him for that. A lot of people look at movies and other types of fiction as an escape from the real world, so it's no wonder they want to see things go better there than they do in life a lot of the time. They want to see an ideal, the way things should be rather than the way things often are.
I remember seeing this the first time when it came out and I was like, "Holy shit! Who had the guts to make a movie that showed us---not TOLD us---how grim, ugly and unrelenting junior high school is?" Because I had been there. I used to get picked on a lot at Dawn Weiner's age. So, I can honestly say this movie is funny, wormy and raw to the core.
This movie was depressing but it was so good. I felt so bad for her. When I saw this movie I was young so I thought that's what school was gonna be like and I wouldn't go to school for week!

If you're ugly, eveyone hates you. If you're hot, people love you.
And junior high is full of cruel bitches and bastards.
And if your ugly in Junior High, you are FUCKED.

My late father and I had a big argument about this movie. He said, "How can you watch this movie? What these kids are doing to each is so awful!"
I said to my father, "What? Are you saying that you can't honestly see people doing things like that to one another?"
He replied, "I'm not saying THAT! What I'm saying is why do movies have to rub stuff like that in our faces?"
And I said dryly, "Because we've had everything else rubbed in our faces."
