What a Riff...horns ..vocals...words..its all good! growing up it was the bomb..how can you not love this thang.. it rocks..the music today is ah lets just say from 1-10 this is a 10 music today 4 maybe..
These guys are so amazing that it's hard to just pick ONE!. I have as many of their albums(that's right...albums) as I could possibly acquire. They became one of my favorite groups in 1969. Every one is a "HIT"!
I did have the opportunity to see them..along with EWF in 2009 @ the Greek in L.A. ......Still got my stub. Just pick a song....you won't go wrong!!.
I may be only 27 yrs old and this band was way before my time but i'll rock the hell out of this song every day, before, anything coming out on the radio waves now a days! whoooooooooohoo
This performance has credibility, because it is the original lead vocalist, the current personell shifts though are starting to border on cover band, more than actually
I am in heaven...just love them... true story about how this song came about...Does anybody know what time it is? Does anybody really care? Happiness is relative to time and place...Patti
@apsy2 Robert Lamm is up there with Paul McCartney(!) as well as Brian Wilson! I can never listen to this song too many times. It's a classic for all time and the ages!!
Reminds me of the wonderful, musical 70's - such incredible music, a great time to be young and alive. This song is woven into my memory and experience of these times. Chilling and thrilling.
@abdushnar - that's Keith Howland on guitar, not Peter. Peter left in 1985 to pursue a solo career. I agree...maybe there's a bit of a resemblance to Peter when he was 20 years younger but that's Keith on Lead Guitar and Jason Scheff-who took Peter's place- is playing bass.
They said in an interview they have two fan groups. The original fans and the fans of the Power Ballads. Yeah the ballads were great, but I'm definitely a fan of the eary stuff... Robert Rocks.. def best part of the band!
Younger viewers probably don't realize this is an anti-Vietnam War song from 1969, when any able-bodied American male under the age of 27 was subject to the draft....
Lamm stated on The Chris Isaak Hour that he got the idea for this song walking down the street in Brooklyn as a teenager when he asked someone, ' excuse me: do you have the time? with the man saying " does anybody really know the time? " That had to be either 1959 or 1960 as he moved to Chicago when he was 15...way long before the Vietnam War.
There just not the same without Kath... still one of the greatest american rock bands EVER,, its just too bad kath couldnt stick around longer,,,,, dont play with guns people
Amazing that many of these songs of Chicago were written and first performed like 35-40 years ago...and they still sound great today. Timeless! RL is genius and should get credit...
hey, does anybody know the name of that chicago song that had the lyrics "I KNOW I'LL LOVE YOU BETTER" right before the hook? it was an uptempo song and i can't for the life of me remember the title!!!!
Yes, Carlos I second that. [in providing this.] You DO have good, make that exquisite taste! Much appreciation coming from the Gulf Coast. The timeless voice of Robert Lamm and those fantastic horns. All you have to do is...LISTEN ! ;-) Thanks Again !
Just by listening here ;-)...and also to the C.T.A. Album that this song is on-that really was an album for the ages(!) if you don't have it get it. It's Fabuloso! So you ARE appreciating them...although there's nothing quite like seeing them live. That was and remains an annual event for us in my house. ;-)
Could watch and listen to this song all day long. As a matter of fact, have a CD Boom Box placed outside the house-cleaning up after Hurricane Ike(!) to listen to CTA and Night and Day CD's in particular-has batteries, obviously and just makes the whole neighborhood feel better. GREAT SONG-WRITING! GREAT BAND! LOVE CHICAGO!!!
what an amazing band, that even with most of the members gone and after having played this song thousands of times, the spirit of the song is still there and intact.
Still can't believe they played that wonderful intro spot on. The horns-Lee's amazing trumpet solo, Lamm's outstanding voice and keyboards.Aside from writing this HE IS STILL SINGING IT SO WELL SO MANY YEARS LATER. Takes me back to when I got my first driver's license. We all know THAT'S a happy time! Thanks so much for this post!
He really does doesn't he? Just having such a wonderful time while he's performing. You watch him and think,'yes: this is what music is all about. The way it should be. Some are blessed with the ability to literally give us intonations that are " music to the ears." And he's definitely blessed with that soulful quality-singing what's in his heart while we feel what's in ours and feel great as well.
This song brings back a funny memory-only time in my life I came THIS close(!)to being smacked by my parents. I was twenty minutes late w/"curfew" with my father asking 'do you know what time it is,?'and I responded with' does anybody really care,? He knew the lyrics because I played this song all the time. Mother was standing behind him..trying not to burst out laughing.I'll say it again: sounds just as great now as it did then.Wonderful performance!
Yes. He WOULD be very sexy with both Mars and Venus in Scorpio! Libra Sun charm to spare and the Moon conjuncting Jupiter giving him wonderful looks as well as height. Jupiter rules Sagittarius and is known-not always but mostly-as being a 'tall sign.'With it in Virgo enough said! Oh: did I mention he looks and sounds great!? Very much in agreement with you there! Very refined as well.
residy, I caught u after so many years by u tube. I was that person u did not tell me the time when I asked u do u really know what the time is it when I walking down the street in Madison one night. u did not tell me the time and caused me missed my precious moment trapped for many years I regret.......
This song brings back such good memories. I remember coming out of Madison Square Garden after watching Chicago's concert. Someone came up to me and asked for the time and I started singing this song and a group of people from the concert joined in. We never did tell that person the time. Chicago the Best.
Apparently Lamm does not have the time for any of us.
