All I can say right now is that he saved a lot of jobs when he got Godfathers out of bankruptcy, and that when discussing something with Gore way back (pretty sure it was some sort of tax reform, maybe socialized healthcare) he questioned how it would affect his employees, so it seems he cares for them at least. That's all I can say with what I know about his background so far.

@Pomiferous Usually, they don't need to beg or persuade. Raising the debt ceiling is typically a very uncomplicated and agreeable task. The heat that the GOP put on this president is unprecedented. So yes, Congress has the final say, but presidents almost always manage to get it raised. As the amount of times that it has been raised historically illustrates, it just isn't a big deal.

Someone explain to me what "inflation" REALLY means within the context of currency. It seems to me that "money" itself is really just used to organize supply and demand. Otherwise, everyone would work for everyone else with no return, unless we had a system of barter.

It would be more effective to look up or take classes on macro and microeconomics if you're really that interested.

To keep from having kids on welfare, first of all be abstinent, have self control. Don't have sex until your married. I consider myself conservative and I think birth control is fine. But what I don't think is fine is, people on welfare that can work, single women who are getting gov aid and the father of their kids works and lives with them. THAT'S JUST PLAIN WRONG!

I don't necessarily approve of people on welfare, and I sure as hell don't support having kids to stay on it. But I don't know everyone's circumstances, and some people genuinely need SSN's. We take care of our citizens, that's just how the U.S. is.

All I can say right now is that he saved a lot of jobs when he got Godfathers out of bankruptcy, and that when discussing something with Gore way back (pretty sure it was some sort of tax reform, maybe socialized healthcare) he questioned how it would affect his employees, so it seems he cares for them at least. That's all I can say with what I know about his background so far.

He can't take criticism, and when he doesn't get his way he resorts to threats and personal attacks. I don't want someone like that anywhere near the White House.
Obama is the way to go in 2012, but if you're going to support at repub at least go with Romney or Paul.

@DreamTiger5 He IS the way to go. I can't accept that a rational human being would support Cain, Gingrich, or Bachmann. Maybe Perry, but he's toast once repubs catch on to his record of supporting democrats. Obama isn't perfect, no president is, but I don't see how handing the keys back to the people who wrecked the economy in the first place will solve anything.
As for Libya, I'm not a fan, but did you support the fall of Saddam? You don't sound very informed at all.

@SmallpoxRot Obama doubled the national debt in 3 years; it took Bush 8 to get it that high. Obama's broken promise after promise about bringing our troops back early and letting people read about socialized healthcare before voting on it. He keeps raising the debt ceiling to give the illusion it's OK for him to keep spending.
I didn't follow the situation with Saddam very well, but I know Congress didn't approve of it. What do they say when Obama does the same thing? Nothing. Biased hypocrites.

@DreamTiger5 It's simple keynesian economics. A liberal like Obama is going to spend in a time of recession, that's just how it is. I'm getting tired of people excusing Bush's spending record, while not bearing in mind that he inherited a perfect economy. Bush didn't need to spend, and he especially didn't need to invade Iraq. Obama's problem is that he only went halfway, and didn't spend enough to reinvigorate the economy.
He's raised the ceiling once. Bush raised it 7 times. Reagan, 18 times.

@Pomiferous Usually, they don't need to beg or persuade. Raising the debt ceiling is typically a very uncomplicated and agreeable task. The heat that the GOP put on this president is unprecedented. So yes, Congress has the final say, but presidents almost always manage to get it raised. As the amount of times that it has been raised historically illustrates, it just isn't a big deal.

Someone explain to me what "inflation" REALLY means within the context of currency. It seems to me that "money" itself is really just used to organize supply and demand. Otherwise, everyone would work for everyone else with no return, unless we had a system of barter.

@AtariMaxiToriyama This is going off of memory, but inflation is when there's too much money in circulation, causing prices to go up. The economy is a delicate balance between inflation and deflation. You don't want either to much or to little money circulating.

@DreamTiger5 But that doesn't make sense to me. If there is 900 trillion dollars in circulation or just 500 trillion, my boss still pays me minimum wage. People don't just suddenly make more money just because there is more pieces of paper "in circulation". What is "in circulation" anyway? Do they print money and just hand it out to people? I've never heard of a crisis where people were making more money than can go around. This is weird, to me.

@AtariMaxiToriyama Circulation in the economy is money being sent around between businesses, the government, households, etc. We don't just print new money all the time; taxes, purchases, subsidies, buying stocks and donations send money from one source to another, where it's sent to another source, where it's sent to another source and so-on. It would be more effective to look up or take classes on macro and microeconomics if you're really that interested.
