  • priceless i admire you thank you for doing this

  • I still can't believe primary schools are serving their children fastfood in America and England. I grew up in The Netherlands and on primary school I'd come home after 12 o'clock, eat bread, (with some on it, mostly cheese or meat) drink milk and then go back to school. Now at college, I have the choice to buy fastfood, but I don't because I've learned that eating healthy is much better for you than eating fastfood. That's an pedagogical proces and I think that parents are responsible for that.

  • you rock Oliver keep doing whatever u doing, I'm supporting ur revolution!!!!!

  • I wasnt taught lots of shit but we still manage. Ain't no excuse for being ignorant.

  • Man we live in an age of relatively cheap food.... its not hard to eat well but nobody gives a fuck about good living anymore. Fucken 21st Century.

  • I've always Loved Jamie!! He IS the reason I wanted to become a chef!! Such an amazing and Inspirational Man!!

  • Very inspiring

  • Dont stuff your face with bullshit and you wont be fat its simple as that, if your kids grow up on soft-drinks and fast food its your own damn fault, cooking is not rocket science.

If your population is made to work all day to pay the interest for rich fucks with billions no wonder no one has time to cook, the problem is much deeper than fastfood.

  • I used to think Jamie Oliver was a typical TV chef. But after seeing this, he's more than that - he's really passionate, he cares about what he's saying, and, more importantly, he's acting on it.

  • This is hard watching, it induces nausia. It *will* make you want to take your eyes from the screen. It is essential and should probably become compulsary viewing.

  • I highly recommend watchin "The Food Revolution" by Jamie Oliver!

  • TED Talks does it again...

  • TED Talks does it again...

  • I wish they could also understand, this is part of what is needed in food and nutrition security, along with the fight against hunger! I agree on been healthy, but dont start a new big media movement caring for (while a big porcentage) the problems of the indutrialysed rich world, mostly cause the non cooking pandemic attacks all! I really like his policies, and admire his dedication, part of which I myself study nutrition and am tryinig to get in that area just dont forget its way bigger

  • All of YUM brands corporate office disliked this video. While they eat salads.

  • He's an awesome guy, he cares about the people and why its necessary to be healthy. :)

    Awesome speech!

  • Awesome speech!

  • inspirational speech :)

  • c'mon america get your ass moving!!

  • Amen

  • Jamie is the best speaker ever

  • anyone know where he got the graph from showing the leading causes of death in the United States and which ones are diet related?

  • Great!!! Sandly true...

  • we dont need a waiting period for guns, we need it for KFC

  • population control

  • Comment removed

  • ey I am sweet charming

  • Thanks!

  • I really love what Jamie is doing and completely agree with him but I think it would help if he would lose some pounds himself.

  • @elbrodero You think he looks unhealthy? I've played sports with much bigger men than him who eat right daily, and keep active. Welcome to genetics. However, if he ate junk food daily you would see him on the Maury show.

  • does this feel like natural selection o anyone else?

  • I was so pissed when they pulled your show off the air. People don't want to hear it. I know this as I am a vegan and they put their heads in the sand all the time. Thanks to Ted TV we can get great information. Thank you JO!

  • Larry Flynt is right!

  • this guy inspired me .

  • everybody should follow randy orton

  • lol i am from uk

  • Jamie kickin' ass and taking names!

  • Jamie, I really admire you for all those initiatives, you are an outstanding cook and wonderful communicator. Thank you so much for everything

  • Jamie good one. btw you are not slim :)

  • @arundaniel1975 Its not about being slim, its about being healthy and fit. You can be slim and be incredibly unhealthy. The whole perception that you need to be slim to be healthy is what is also putting our kids at risk of anorexia and bulimia... Get fit, get healthy.

  • @dianachripczuk thanks.Point well taken

  • @dianachripczuk Totally agree with you, just look at Jamie, I wouldn't call him slim, but he is fit and healthy!

  • @dianachripczuk Wonderful comment Diana

  • @theblackmafia71 It seems you don't get it. Here is a person who cares about you and all kids, a guy who sticks his neck out for you, who stands on a stage to get the message out, who puts himself to the risk of being ridiculed by clueless people, and he does it for you. What else reason would he have? He could continue making money by writing books about food, doing TV shows about food - not taking any risks.... but he does this for you.

  • @sebofo Arrrhhhh ! he does it for me (bless) well if you would have checked first, you would have realised that im actually 40 years old ! So that means that scince around 1975ish ive been able to wipe my own arse !

Thanks fatboy Oliver but I can actually cook! Passed my 706 city and guilds (as it was then ) back in 1989

so no he doesnt do it for me!

  • 57 fat kids clicked the dislike button while eating pizza ! (because they couldn't keep it down)

  • fast food companies is evil, they act like they care about you, but they only care whether you purchase or not. if you get overweight and lose couple years in health, they never say anything

  • OMG

  • wang.

  • Sad but true fact. Schools don't have money to fund this sort of thing. The Gov. won't.. their broke too. If you put heallthy food in schools kids won't eat it. And to have fresh food in schools would mean higher prices, which parents can't afford either. The only thing that would work is teaching kids about eating healthy which is not the schools job or Governments job... it's the parents job. Don't blame anyone else for your own decisions.

  • @drunkeykong12 who will teach the parents? like he said they are 3rd generation. He is not blaming anyone. He is trying to teach everyone. It is not a 'job' of anyone. It is a desperate situation and no one can solve this unless Government stops most of the 'actual' activity and focuses on all the people who are dying miserable deaths. But no, never. It seems to you that they should know right? parents are ignorant and there is no decision to be made when everything is unhealthy.

  • America will sink into the sea due tue all overweight before they do anything about it.

  • This is a dance video when muted :)

  • Simply retarded! There is no moral for argument this lecture. Simply the statement is that the west lives in such opulence that it can decide to eat itself to death whilst half the worlds population suffers malnutrition. This is an example of the divergence of wealth. Fat people who decide to kill themselves through over indulgence will never get my sympathy before those who have no choice but to starve.

  • @MrKelvincan it's not about obese people receiving sympathy, it's about making people aware of the seriousness of eating shit and letting diets get out of control, and the toll it takes on kids who grow up knowing nothing about nutrition

  • Powerful!!

  • Right on, Jamie!

  • If you mention that nutrition, movement or the global development in inustrial powers have a major influence on health you get laughed at in med school. That's sad.

The majority still thinks high carb is good and bacteria free food is health food....

    It's a travesty...

  • @SkillSeeker So true... As a biology undergrad, the USDA food pyramid looks screwed to me. How is it possible that we can eat so much carbs in a day, since triglycerides will rocket. Very "healthy" indeed

  • ehm i can make you go crazy

  • @Nightstrife100 its ok, we all hate you too

  • For those who say "those fat people are stupid" or "survival of the fittest", don't you have any compassion? Sure there is a certain level of responsibility for one's self, but if you were never taught anything about food or how to cook, you are put at a disadvantage, and that ignorance carries on and each generation just gets lazier and lazier because processed, canned, wrapped, bottled processed garbage is always there as an instant solution. Cooking with real food is the solution.

  • @SGTBizarro So I should feel sorry for alcoholics and drug addicts before I feel sorry for starving people with no choice. These people choose to eat themselves to death. In the pursuit of Liberty they have every right to do this but they do not deserve compassion..

  • He. Is. Incredible.

  • wow, sensationalist bullshit. Sure it's a problem, but not as big as you make it seem

  • @Baxterbear111 It's not sensationalist.. it's reality. Take almost any kid in the US to the produce section of a grocery store and they won't even be able to identify what most of it is. We used to have an intimate connection with food when families grew it for themselves and for neighbors, and had to cook for themselves. Now we're raising our children on processed crap that comes in wrappers and they have no idea how horrible it is, and they grow up not knowing how to cook. That is SAD!!

  • If we try and feed the starving with unhealthy food, we are saving them from starvation. But we are killing them with obesity. If we give the obese people reason and instuction about healthy food, we can stop obesity. Then, with the knowledge we have given, we can fight starvation with redoubled effort: to feed, and to feed healthy.

  • @MrKelvincan I think you are partially correct, as are the people criticizing you. Starvation IS A big problem. Obesity is a big problem, too. There is a rule that says "Take care of your own problems before you take care of others", and thats a fine rule. But we cant shoulder the weight of the world, yet. we have to take care of ourselves first.

  • This really pisses me off. There are millions of people in threat of dying from starvation and this tit is trying to make us feel sorry for fat ignorant fucks who are eating themselves to death. I know that my sympathy goes to those with nothing to eat.

  • @MrKelvincan ok so from all of the cooks all over the world..JAMIE must be the only one who feeds starving people??? its non of his duties to save the whole world! at least he is trying to do something, to help a huge amount of people...dude its not ALL OR NOTHING!! cant u just thank him for shading lights on obesity?? for trying to make the situation betteR??

  • @samarscorpions One is a problem of choice these people choose to over eat, just like an alcoholic chooses to drink. There can be no moral comparison to those who are deprived of food. No I don't have sympathy for greedy ignorant people with no self control. I find this whole thing perverse.

  • @MrKelvincan ok ur right starvation is a major problem that people should care for...

but if u cant treat the whole world, treat some of it!

i guess u havent watched the episode when a 16yr old girl says she only has 6 years to live!!

it has to stop eventually and Mr Oliver is trying to help!

  • Saint Jamie, both UK and America are lucky to have you...the whole system needs to change! obesity is conquering our world! our relatives! our people! our children!

it has to stop!! we think food is just for fun but it does affect our minds, our behaviour, our body!

keep it up dear Jamie, we do support you

  • @samarscorpions Saint Jamie, why doesn't he cook food for the starving? is only worry is stupid fat bastards who CHOOSE to eat themselves to death, not once does he mention people DEPRIVED of food. Surely not having food is a greater injustice than ignorant people choosing to kill themselves.

  • @MrKelvincan why dont U do that?? instead of criticizing Mr Oliver....he;s not the only person that can help the starving people...but he is one of the only who try to HELP SOMEONE instead of just cooking for rating!

  • @MrKelvincan Omg, i found a Troll *give troll something to eat* Here you are, my little sweet troll :) you can talk as much shit as you want, i will always be there and listen to you. Yeah you are right... this one person shouldn't try to help a group of people before he asks you, if these group its worthy enough. You are the true king of the world and everything others does is just shit. But everyone just see YOU as a little piece of shit. But you're my troll and i feed you as long as you want.

  • @Deviant85 I'm guessing you way over 300 lbs.

  • @MrKelvincan Uhhh it bites! Nasty little thing! :)

  • im so glad that im not fat, i dont drink alcohol , nor do i smoke :)))

  • @MrEDDFire So what do you do? As Clemewnt Freud said - if you renounce drink, smoking, fatty foods and fast women, you won't live any longer - it will just seem like it!

Only joking - this isn't a time for self satisfied gloating. Jamie is spot on about this. Every school should teach cooking - not domestic science - Cooking!

  • @MrEDDFire

So you're a smug, self-important, self-centered, self-righteous bastard. Thanks for sharing that, but what has that got to do with this TED talk? Nothing.

  • @crixus Haha, you jelly?

  • i admit that originally i saw this as an opportunity to raise awareness to your name, but this speech has made me realise that you are wholeheartedly passionate about change in the food industry. keep up the good work :)

  • Jamie I hope too see this.!! I am 19 years old, studying cook and I'm your fan, since childhood. to admire and support on that one.! You inspire each new cook.! continued what you do, we were with you m8.!!!! :) good luck.!!!

  • Survival of the fittest and the smartest. So what some dumb people who do not know how to feed themselves are dying. Remove them from the gene pool. Ignorance is not a defence if you do not know something get off your fat arse and and learn. Good luck to Jamie for bringing it to peoples attention but the problem is not obesity the problem is stupidity. STUPIDITY kills more people than anything else. People should learn to think.

  • @MrKelvincan Not stupidity ignorance, similar but fundamentally different.

  • I like how the kid calls an eggplant a pear.lol

  • he brought a tear to my eye. his words are so obvious brilliant and curious that even I remembered where I came from to a point of shock. Shock from where i come from is so strange in itself but a point of shock what i grew up with.. to be blunt it's like he told us we are beautiful trees and the only water or feed we've got was a bunch of piss.

    God bless Jamie Oliver.

  • I got a Jamie Oliver cookbook (his one about American cuisine, specifically) for Christmas last year and it's fantastic. Everything I've made has been delicious.

  • Moves around to a very distracting extent. A bad mannerism during a speech. Eat healthier is such a cliche that the First Lady is even piling on, with no qualifications. So this is not profound. It's beating a dead horse by now.

  • @MegaAplauz shit is edible, but I don't eat it. You can't deny the health problems linked with obesity.

  • @MegaAplauz I'd ra

  • All these haters on this comment board are sad, delusional people.

Look at the facts and statistic. I love unhealthy food, but what he wants us to learn and do is limit our selves to have a healthier lifestyle for longer, better lives.

Dont be ignorant and call him a faggot. Get your head out of that bucket of chicken and go exercise. Eat less. Eat healthier food. You dont want to live longer? Want to die earlier?

    Stay in your bucket.

  • Most the comments on here just make America look ugly. If any of you were to open your eyes you would see he is on track. We in America do have starving children who only eat at school!! We are just getting dumber by the minute.

  • BREAKING NEWS!!! Operation Occupy Wall Street Protests happening NOW in New York!!! Media will not cover this!!! Google Occupy Wall street for a live stream!!!

  • Honestly! Who cares if he has a lisp, first of all? and Second, your so-called "tree huggers" are the people that care the most about the world you live in. He's trying to save lives through what he does best, and that's an admirable goal to take on.

  • "... My name's Jamie Olivaa, I'm furty-four years old, I'm from Essex in London and I can't talk properly".

  • mind your own business jamie , your just another tree hugger

  • Dear Jamie, I live in San Antonio TX. I'm asking you if you can please help my city that i love. Alot of the people i know shop at a store called H-E-B. If you can change the way H-E-B handle food...just maybe you can change the way we eat. H-E-B is a grocery store that is all across south Texas. San Antonio is a proud and loving city and i know we will welcome you with open arms. Think about it please.

  • BRAVO, Jamie. You must go on with this movement. I hope that people will wake up and see what is really important in this life. VIVA FOOD REVOLUTION!

  • What is a beastie???

  • Who even watches this shit?

  • america is no longer the fattest country in the world, check the facts.

  • such a big inspiration <3 love him xxx

  • jamie

don`t bull shit about 18 min, and 4 dead from the food that they eat, BECAUSE they have something to eat GOD DAMN IT !!!!

how many dead or close to death are because there is nothing to eat !? not americans, others.........

  • @MegaAplauz Thank you for being brave enough to say this. It's not Jamie's fault and I applaud him for the difference he's trying to make, but, Jeez, eating should be a right but for much of the world it's a privledge they don't have access to. Meanwhile we just keep breeding and making more people who will either conserve or exploit the few resources we have at everyone else's expense. Why isn't there a TED speech on overpopulation?

  • @lastonesmiling :)

    nice one

  • gotta love jamie, i had to eat an apple after this. without the fudge!!

  • This is nice! But for now I have something more important to do. Yet again, I think I had watched this before on my iPad with TED app.

  • I like when he broke down in tears and said "Why doesn't anyone take me seriously?" Lol, classic, whiny Jamie.

  • Nice speech

  • @YunoSmile Your comment provides nothing, absolutely useless. Do you think Jamie hates fat people? The average person is at least somewhat overweight, so you basically hate everybody. Some babies are born fat. You hate them or the mother? If you hate almost everyone why the fuck are you smiling? Born skinny or did you GET normal because you are such a strong person. Sometimes really fat, sweaty, smelly people gross me out, but I don't hate them. I won't date chubby chicks but I don't hate them.

  • Please visit my channel for the unpopular truth about homosexuality.

A person does not need religion, hatred or any kind of phobia in order to acknowledge important, qualitative differences between heterosexual attraction / behavior / marriage / adoption and homosexual attraction / behavior / marriage / adoption.

Homosexual activists, with complete support from the media, have succeeded at framing themselves as noble victims and martyrs; it's an effective way to push a social agenda.

  • He's gorgeous ^^

  • it's not just an issue in the usa in canada it's almost just as bad. I am saying this as being slightly obese.

  • PS... I am a TED fanatic - and have on my youtube channel - in personal order after watching well over 700+!!! of them - my top 2 playlists with a great running order... there is also a carl sagan complete playlist, arthur c clarke and loads of other hand picked documentaries and debates and art and cultural videos... click on my user name, MrDespo3, have a look round and welcome to despo television & please subscribe and vibe!

  • @MrDespo3 I'm Dutch and I couldn't agree more with you. Cynicism is a cruel and destructive characteristic. Mr Oliver is right to the core and he stands on that stage deservedly. And now I'm going to my local shops to get some local meat. Tonight it's Jamie night in my kitchen once more.

  • I'm English and have been exposed to a lot of Jamie Oliver - and have always liked him. I became a TED enthusiast in 2008 when they 1st started putting the talks online, mainly through a technological fascination with a guy called Ray Kurzweil. When I knew that TED was honouring Jamie Oliver - I was fascinated to see how the US would react and have been delighted to re-introduce my fellow cynical UK friends to what is actually real. He represents the BEST in the English character. Amazing.

  • @MrDespo3 I like the way how you start your comment with 'I'm English'. Like it gives you some sort of ownership or makes yourself some sort of greater authority on Jamie Oliver. 55 million other people are English and a large number of them consider Jamie Oliver to most of the time be a complete tit. Given he does a good job here.

  • The speech aint great, look at him, i get all dizzy, but the message is great.

  • BUT THERES NO CASH?!!

  • this dude is amazing!

  • How Dare Those 47 Obese Trolls Rate Bad on A Great Speech

  • where's my +1 Jamie button? I liked it, but I need a +1 also.

  • Jamie for king!!

  • It's all done on purpose, dumbing down through mainstream media, food, water, pharmacy, education,... I just waited if Jamie would start talking about conspiracy behind it.

  • @mininow I agree, it is done on purpose, including stigmatizing the phrase "conspiracy theory".

  • Obesity in America and world wide is a serious problem. There are many causes. Proper diet and exercise being the obvious. Fast food, genetics, and society being other causes. But with child obesity it all starts at home. Parents setting a good example and being positive role models.

  • americans, just go to your local butcher shop, and find out how to cook it on youtube, dats how i learned to cook, havent bought fast food or frozen food in yrs

  • @libertineoverdose88 That's true, and that's what i'm doing now, its easy xD

  • Great speech. I think Ramsay is the most talented chef I've seen but it's great that Oliver is using his status and knowledge for such a good cause, in such a passionate way. And the fact he'd been rewarded with a platform at TED is awesome.

  • You are awesome, Jamie Oliver. Your message is strong and straight forward. You are enthusiastic in what you believe in, and it is inspiring. Keep it up!

  • Jamie Oliver's an absolute legend. In the last school I went to, they scrapped unhealthy food (apart from as a special treat on fridays). Shame I couldn't say that about the next place I went to... There was a Tesco next door where you could buy all manner of processed shite. Fuck that shit, it needs to stop :(

  • 太極拳

  • so true.....lazyness is the problem

  • I've listened to this speech so many times. He can teach people so well, nobody cares about all the big words and chef language, he talks about it so simply with such belief and passion!! Proper hero!! x

  • In Norway, they got rid of Chocolate (and strawberry) milk years ago!

And in the canteen they're ONLY selling healthy food!

  • Jamie Olivier keep going.

  • @11:15 soo sad...

  • " As we go to work and as life changes, and as life always evolves, we kind of have to look at it holistically, step back for a moment and readjust the balance, and it 'aint happening, it hasn't happened in thirty years." Word. Jamie, Word. I loves me some discussion with this.

  • China is gonna take over.

  • :)))

  • "Who knows what this is?"

    "Potatoes?"

    Ok I laughed.

  • Those kids think an eggplant is a pear? We may be freakin doomed.  And what a lovely pile of sugar. How about teaching kids not only to respect their own bodies but those of animals as well and go vegan?

  • @veganguy1 going vegan may be a bit far. but he does try and promote only eating animals that have been well treated. such as in "jamie saves our bacon" which was with the RSPCA there was also his friend who did "hughs chicken run" which was a campaign to help chicken welfare

  • i know what jamie is saying but when i saw those piles of food... i got a bit hungry

  • @DuMCommentaries How can your appetite be stimulated by that quality of food? It looked ugly as hell, and it wasn't even hot or on a plate. It looked like a pile at the local dump. No offense, it's just...just ugh. =S

  • @33melonpaws77 yea but it was probably the fact that i was already approaching hunger.. not that the food was appetizing but it was food nonetheless.

  • @DuMCommentaries *passes healthy&tasty burger*

  • It is true that american kids,no offense, dont know bout good healthy food. Morgan Spurlock's Supersize Me showed it. Thank god supersize options are gone.

  • Jamie is a good human being. Haters gon hate. Stop bashin him. Hes just helping. But, yes, it is the individuals responsibility to help themselves. He is making apoint. He is angry at how the system is affecting people in America. He wants to help.

  • I watch this whenever I am down because hearing his voice is a consolation and uplifting. He is such a major significant public figure in my life.

  • i like the jamie olives's shows.is so relaxing for me

"every cooking method I been had to see"good!

and this r i approve of it

  • Human Greed is inherent within us all...there will be no solution until we all remove greed from ourselves. Investigate equal money and the Desteni I process

  • @CopperBotMedia : I just posted this on Facebook and it worked. Not sure what happened with you. But it worked for me. Very important message from someone who does really care.

  • sign go petition fast tory cretins are fast at ruining stuff:go petition,,,,against conservative £10 billion land sell off petition,125,000 signatures a.s.a.p will over turn the policy.

  • I just tried to share this on Facebook and it was blocked. The Facebook message said it could not be shared because the content had been marked as spam by too many people. I think this is a pretty sad sign that things are going to get worse before they get better. Honestly I'm to the point now I don't care about these people who refuse to help themselves and turn a blind eye. This man tries to reach out and help them and they respond with anger... it's darwinism.

  • You do have some good phone deals though.
