  • Trent is a lame cry-baby, fuss fuss fuss all he does is complain and fuss

  • does anyone have the playlist from that segment, they played 6hours of videos picked by reznor.

  • Someone's a flip-flopper...

  • trent makes the worst depressing music. it's boring. same with limp shitskit.

  • Reznor is a fucking tard. his music sucks anyway

  • People take note: He says "the way it's set up right now"

  • I guess music in his mind "All about the money." He looked gacked out in that interview. Maybe needed an 8ball?

  • @marcleach75 the money, yep agree.

  • R-giest is comming

  • looks like fred durst was ahead of the curve on this one.

  • Who uses Napster anymore? Everything is Pirating and Itunes.

  • @Chrisgodoflard

this is like, old as shit.

  • @MrSYSTEM20 ummm... two things. It still costs money to make an album, whether it's a home or studio album. Again, promotion and marketing costs money. Also, this video is from the late 90's early 00's, when Trent was under a record label and P2P sharing wasn't as developed.

  • OH THE IRONY !!!! those that know what I am talking about are obviously intelligent and have a good memory...those that don't, are nothing but fan boys that feel that Trents shit don't stink...

  • I love the dig on Fred Durst! "Well he's a moron to start with!" haha

  • Seeing that Trent Reznor got to call Fred Durst a moron on National TV fills my heart with profound joy. One small victory for quality music.

  • When the reporter mentioned Fred Durst I already knew what was coming next...

  • Napster is no different than when people used to take tapes and record the TOP 10 for free. If you did not complain about it then, then shut up now. I know Trent changed his mind.

  • people will always find music. the music industry is a joke now anyway so it failing means nothing. people still find music because of the internet. musicians know that these days it is what it is. people will steal your music and if you are worried about getting that dough you are gonna make it off concerts etc. i think that if you are worried about making money being an artist you should have something to fall back on. it would just make sense.

  • @sofuknossum REALLY ? I happen to know AS A FACT what it cost an artist per CD. In 2008, I released my debut album. I did the music myself, I did the sleeve artwork myself, and to just get it all printed up and the CD's professionally done cost me $1.50 PER CD. that was the case, the sleeve, the silkscreened CD, the physical media itself, the lables with barcode, and sealed in celophane. $1.50 PER CD. and I ordered 1000. so now YOU know what the markup is :)

  • @MrSYSTEM20 Yea you're also forgetting all of the equipment, recording costs, staff ect it takes to record a studio album. Not to mention promotion and marketing. Those are all figured in.

  • @dansemacabre17 ummm.. it's like 2011 now...not the 1970's/80's/90's.

  • @sofuknossum Ignore my last comment, it was not directed at you..I don't know how it got directed at you.

  • yes it's stealing because if you borrow something like a Cd from a friend and copy it on to your computer and then tell your friend he's going to get pissed off because "you stole his cd" this video is a load of shit.

  • Napster used to be the only place were alot of live shows recorded could be shared.

I didn't have a problem with the live songs I could understand if its the studio version on a cd its theft but for bootlegs i think its differant.

  • Why the fuck does everybody hate Fred Durst?! I know Jonathan Davis(KoRn) said he turned into an asshole when he got famous, but why does everyone else hate him? What has he done to affect anyone?

  • @DJFAMDaniel because the guy is a chump who `makes` music aimed at teenage wiggers/metal kids (when hes pushing 40) `My Generation?` that song right there says it all, the kids that buy his music aren`t his genaration at all, hes just out to make money and Trent Reznor has more talent in his little finger than Durst does in his oversized pants. Its packaged agression for fratboys. Fred Durst has written some of the worst lyrics ive ever heard.

  • @DJFAMDaniel Jonathan Davis wasn't a complete asshole, it was the booze and drugs. He quickly became sober and he was good again. Fred Durst has been known to attack and screw over artist(right now using that term loosely) of all genres while thinking he is a god. He also makes crappy ass music with simplistic lyrics just for money. Limp Bizkit would be better off without him. At least even when JD was being a douche he was still making great and meaninful music

  • @MMaeidlilniAW wow, sounds like you really know them

  • @DJFAMDaniel well, he did that god awful performance with christina aguilera for one. that's just wrong!

  • i feel that if you are making music to express yourself and to feel better that's great. when it becomes fuck you pay me for it then it's wrong. if you make music you should just want to get a message out to people and feel better and that is better compensation than millions of dollars.

  • @sofuknossum

I think the major issue with people thinking the way you do, is that the entire music industry would fail. With the internet it's possible now for people to get their music out there. But how much can they express themselves while flipping burgers at McDonalds 40 hours a week. Moreso when they have kids, spouses, family in general. How much time do they have left to express themselves? You CANNOT get your message out to all those who need it, for free.

  • trent wasnt rich at the time... that all i have to say he really wasnt that rich

  • wow.... interesting

  • reznor is God and durst is a moron hahah

  • Oh and as for Limp Biscuit......they are terrible........I do not have an opinion on someone like Fred Durst but Limp Biscuit, Linkin Park, Disturbed and all that kind of stuff really is overated and kind of overthe top hardcore crap, which does nothing for anyone.

  • @pleaseopenyourshop

Hardcore? You mean wannabe hardcore. Real hardcore is like Black Flag or Discharge.

  • I think anything to do with computers and music is generally bad, simply because it makes everything so disposable. I mean, how many people go and buy records, as oppossed to sitting on Youtube or downloading it for free, or I tunes onto your I pod.

Ipods are a gimmick, they don't last long and they are way to expensive, they are also cheap and tacky.

It was better when people bought cds, and even tapes, cassettes should still be avaliable.

  • @pleaseopenyourshop cds are good if you want a collection but ipods are wonderfull because you can have 1000s of albums on the go with high sound quality! iv had my ipod for 6 years and it still works fine!

  • I think a lot of the artists were led to believe that Napster and file sharing would put a dent into their profits and threaten their IP. However ten years after the technology boom with Napster, I think more musicians see it much differently today. If it was not for technology, a lot of the artists who broke through the 00's such as White Stripes, Interpol, QOTSA, etc., would have not made it at all. If anything is killing the music industry is old fashion greed with 360 contracts.

  • most artists make very little money from record sales anyway. the best way to support your favorite artists is to go to their shows and buy their merchandise. they get a significantly higher cut of those profits than record sales.

  • Trent changed his mind now as he all the sudden became (like in 2007) the leader of big artist who give away music for free & i love him for it.

  • Thankfully he had the balls to speak the truth, Fred Durst was and is a complete

    moron.

  • @Detestur well said

  • Fred Durst and Trent Reznor actually are ok with each other now, I think they forgave each other around the Sonsiphere festival, where they played live. (not together)

    I like Nine Inch Nails.

I just wanted to also say that Limp Bizkit rules, and fuck you all.

  • @007ToxicVenom

    same here. both bands rule.

    the haters are worms here.

  • But isn't the whole point of creating as your job to get paid? I mean if you create and don't get paid for it and then your music became popular through something like napster you'd get excited because of the potential to become famous and make money? I have a hard time believing that creating in itself is the major thrill...be all end all. Something like napster just cuts down on gain. If you pass around a painting to show someone that someone else created your not stealing it.

  • If we are going on the basis that money is not the issue then napster (and others) are only helping their (the artists) goal and situation...their message and art is being spread even faster and in new ways. But that's the problem...money is the issue, which is fine, but don't say that it isn't.

  • LOL Trent always so funny LOL "Well he is wrong" Hahahahahaha

    NIN fucking owns

  • @ImplementDestruction ...I think he says "Well, he's a moron, to start with." Either way, it's funny 'cause it's true!

  • ha trents awesom, yeah nowadays hes just like fuck it, your gonna get in one way or another anyway. hes more like,,,i cant beat them so ill join them

  • Fuck napster.

  • i heart trent

  • Art should be free (imo), there just needs to be some new angles toward marketing something we can download and (try out) before we go out and buy it. Maybe all CD & DVD's come with posters, holograms, cheweing gum, idk I've always felt $20 was too much to spend on a movie or album anyway.

  • @DeweyDuck420 so you wont buy art but youll buy a gimmick?

  • I think artists and the industry should completely reinvent the financial contract since as long as we are able to listen to a song for free (sans broadband expense), watch a movie for free, and read a book for free, most of the artists sales will be coming from Live Performances for musicians. And, unless you have a home theatre there is still no experience like watching a movie in a movieplex, in the pitch dark, and walking out afterward (albeit butt aching).

  • Art as an industry is just changing. since this video napster isn't even free anymore, there are plenty ways to download an artists music or movie or book or picture, but finding rare items from an artist still isn't very easy.

  • okay people, who would take dursts side anyway lol his music is trashy and meaningless while reznor writes from the heart and i love NIN and alot of the 90s, and my favorite band is Rage Against the Machine, but thanks to durst, they broke up because of his dickhead attitude. Fuck he eventually ended up pissing off eminem. No one likes him lol

  • Limp Bizkit just got back together and have an album scheduled for February in case you didn't know.

  • I meant RATM broke up. And I really don't mind LB as a band, I just don't like Durst truly. I actually like Borland as a guitarist. He's decent

  • I misunderstood your comment sorry.

  • Its alright lol

  • I always wanna hear what Trent has to say about Fred.

  • I think it would make a very interesting movie lol.

  • That's the way Trent thinks about it these days

  • i totally respect Trent but he talks shit about other guys like Limp Bizkit and that's crap for a real artist.First of all you need to respect other guy's music.

  • music. limp bizkit produce shit, not music, so technically it's ok then

  • Comment removed

  • umm yeah, fred durst started talking shit abaut trent, he deserves it...

  • Who told you Fred Durst is an artist? ^^

  • FERD DUST IS A FAG NIG FAG FUCK

  • LOL @ Limp Biskit making great music and inspiring an entire generation.

  • more like ruined a generation!! MUHAHAHAHAA btw you spelt the name wrong. XD fail whale

  • Oh ya I forgot...

Limp BiZkit is so hardcore they use a Z

My bad I remembered the hardcore K and the fact they also leave out the U, because they are so Uber.

But you do realize I bashing Limp Bizkit right?

I was laughing at a reply I read calling them great inspiring musicians.

Limp Bizkit is the worst form of music.

Hardcore Commercial Bullshit is what it should be labeled under cause they did it all for the Nookie!

  • terrible sorry. i didnt bother to look at the comments. but i cant find any comment like that here, care to point it out?

  • @EricIndiana Does anyone even know who that is anymore? I mean NIN isn't the most popular band, especially now, but it was never trying to be.

  • @EricIndiana So true. REAL HARDCORE PUNK was dangerous and full of thugs, check my channel. Fred durst is just a smiley little fag.

  • This was way back in late 99 or 2000, before Trent knew what labels were really up to.

  • 10 years later he said "steal it" lmao, reznor rules

  • @violationoftheart

I think his opinion shifted slightly after he kicked his heroine and drinking habit and realized he was being robbed by his record company. I think he still holds the intellectual property argument at a high standard, as well as considering in my interpretation, he used "steal it" was in contextual reference to Year zero being released at such a high price by his record company. He independently releases his music on his own terms and charges at a fairer price to his fans.

  • @violationoftheart You're misunderstanding the context in which be said to "steal it". He went to the music store, and out of anger for what his label at the time was charging for his stuff in Australia. ($34.99, while other music was around $23.99 there.) Out of frustration with his label, he told Australians to steal it! He says it's hard to not resent people for stealing, and that it's a hard position that artists are in now days, because they don't want to seem like greedy assholes.

  • @Audesi how much did you pay for the last ΝІИ CD ?

  • Trent's a great musician, so I believe in what he says, I can't support shit like napster either....fuck napster

  • why the fuck would Fred Durst say that? He works hard to make music which he believes is important? yeah who gives a shit if people talk celeb shit about Limp Bizkit, they've still made great music and influenced an entire generation, whether we like it or not, the world just can't stand the fact that a short bald dude in a backwards cap owned the asses of all these celebs at one point

  • Is this the same guy who said "steal and steal and steal away"?

  • lol trent is right fred durst is a moron

  • yeah free music's great and all.. but it if you look into buying an album, go to the record store and come home and you can't wait to listen to it and you put on your headphones and look at the cover art and read the booklet it's so much more appreaciated than going on some site and downloading the songs you'll probably ignore. and you know with the cd that all the tracks are gonna play fine.

  • Fact: Album sales dropped after Napster.

  • i downloaded every new album so far for free, but i have bought alot of cds too over the years. So if i can get it for free why not? the band is already rich to begin with.

  • So if I buy three cars over 20 years I should get my fourth car free just because I bought other ones? How does that make sense?

  • well im not talking about cars to begin with. I usually always used to buy cds. Then i discovered all the free mp3 sites. Its not a big deal.

  • Doesn't really matter what you're talking about. It's the same concept whether it is cars or music.

  • yeah but you dont see free car websites. I meann like how come napster was being sued for offering free music but nowadays theres free sites everywhere and nobody does anything.

  • These are just my opinions, but I figure you should know. I mean, as you put it, why not?

    1. You're an idiot

    2. Korn sucks

  • How about this?

    1. Your a faggot who sucks major dick

    2. ill knock your fucking teeth down your throat

  • Yeah? I hope you do it with your major dick. By the way you talk, you surely must be dangling ten feet of rope. Either that or you're just an idiot who listens to shitty 'nu-metal' or whatever the fuck that means.

  • you must be one pathetic loser, to keep commenting me back on a youtube video. Get a life you piece of shit.

  • Nope. There are plenty of people that suck and make money off of it. Ask your mother, she knows.

  • All I know is that Korn and Limp Bizkit's music really helped me through tough times in my life, if it wasn't for them I would have shot up my school and been the next V-Tech/Columbine prodigy.

  • @zachamazing

    @KoRnLPMaggot

Korn and Nine Inch Nails are great bands you can suck my dick and fuckin like it!

  • music should'nt be free..face it

  • its interestin to hear his stance on napster and him all bein against it n now we can download the slip free off nins website-some are gonna argue it ain't the same thing, whatever, dude gave in, where as metallica whose been fighten it and still are never put their music up for free N then he has the nerve to criticize radiohead for their means of embracing free download. I love the man, I love trent to death, seriously, but sometimes its just arrrgggg

  • Well I think back then it was kind of a new thing to steal music and the musical world worked differently. I think Trent learned that he can't fight his music being stolen and found a way to work with it so he did that. I don't think he criticized radiohead for giving theirs away really as much as he thought they were trying to pull a gimmick to make themselves more popular. I don't think they were at all but it's all in perspective. I understand where you're coming from though.

  • Trent put his music up for free because he was sick of the fucking record companies pricing the albums ridiculously high and how bad that was for the consumer.

"The climate grows more and more desperate for record labels, their answer to their mostly self-inflicted wounds seems to be to screw the consumer over even more" - Trent Reznor

Trent certainly didn't "give in". He just recognized the greed of the record companies a little bit later.

  • ha ha thats great!

  • hah! i love the interviewer's nervous laugh at the end and Trent looks dead serious!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • I think it's funny that he's always all smiles when he's interviewed by women, but when it's a guy he acts all serious. He's such a flirt. lol

  • Really? I didn't notice that. Hmm I'll go check.

  • @rooibos450 that's because he's shy : )

  • lol
