Although I agree that Messi was the better player last year, I think Ronaldo is on track to win it this year, even though it's only January. He has had an excellent season with Madrid and Messi has not been quite as brilliant as he was last season.

ronaldo doesnt Have to use the dribbles he makes. he just does them, so that he can get more attention, and if you look on youtube pages, for compilations og dribbles, there are a loot of step-overs from ronaldo. and he has scored a goal vs xerxez (no idea xD) when he just ran past the players.

messi got skill, tech, speed, respect, i will give you dribbling, but take away skill, tech, speed,...now understand this, technique includes freekicks, longshots, etc.. which messi doesnt hav. skill, is ronaldo by a long shot, when's the last time messi did tricks? understand that u can dribble around 10 players w/o skill, like maradona. so they're different. speed, ronaldo is proven faster, and 4 others too, messi is not in top 5. overall ronaldo, both are SUPER GOOD, messi is more respectful

@TheKikaniparth Correction: I meant he has skill didn't mean better. Anyway. Messi is very capable of all skills, and he has stated that you don't need all those fancy moves to get past a player. Messi is also very capable with free kicks and has proven it quite a few times, not quite sure about longshots though, anyway correct me if i'm wrong but I haven't seen Ronaldo pull off much longshots this season or freekicks except the one against marseille which was quite amazing.

He completely outshined every other person that was competing for that award. He firthermore proves how good he is by leaving Ronaldo and Madrid in the dust by 5 points cos of Madrids loss to Athletico. But, the season is still young we'll see wht happens.

i really don't think we can compare and say which are better, different qualities...We cannot compare wesley Sneijder and paul scholes, they're both midfielders, but dif positions and qualities, same as for ronaldo/messi. ronaldo is full winger, while messi is more of a striker or even the informal 3rd striker,he cuts into box instead of crossing, where ronaldo in the same position would cross. different qualities...we cannot say which is better, Ronaldo is better at his position. messi at his..

Messi or "mesii" in your case in fact is very capable of scoring freekicks and has shown it on several occasions, plus he doesn't do the tricks because he doesn't need to as he has stated many times, because he has amazing dribbling ability. He doesn't run away from them, he actually dribbles and uses pace to go past players which helps him to get past multiple players and not just 1 after doing 50 stepovers
