As we were dancing..closely..all of a sudden I lost control as I held her charms...and I caressed her...kissed her....told her I'd die before I would let her out of my arms..
my wife melts over this guy and has her own Gene Pitney radio station on her smart phone.....and shes dancing around the house holding onto the phone lip sinking....omg funny
Such negativity concerning the woman he's singing about..... obviously, the lady was much like him, a seeker of the American dream who found a guy who was good match...
This is about the first song I can remember from my lifelong love affair with music. I used to get really upset at the thought of the guy being so far from home! I didn't realise at the time he was the author of his own misfortune.
He shouldn't have picked up that hooker at the truck stop.. hahahahaha. he will be kickin his ass, lookin for the wife back.. This trip cost him big time lol.
i can remember me mam and dad playing this song on a sunday when me gran and grandad used to pop in for dinner bless all r i p now i no what class was
Where's the sequel? And where's the heart, man... "Hey, Babe... let me describe to you how I fell for someone else... had a one night stand... or longer... and, like, I'm gone..." Not a bad song for all that...
my parents have passed away now but i will always remember this song when they played it on a record player in the 70 s on a sunday i thought it was shit then but i realise how wrong i am
Wow......this is one great song. I remember I was stationed at Orlando AFB. dating a young lady by the name of Penny H......we didn't make it but his song always reminds me of her - she was quite a lady............I hope you are well Penny..............
@simontamas81 Listen closely to the end of the song. He's not happy with the choice he made, but he can't go back because he realizes what an asshole he was. That's not the sound of a man saying "I can never go home again because I'm happier with my new relationship."
@kickassfan To Kickass.... I agree with your comments. Gene was incredible. He truly loved to be in front of an audience as he often said. The time of Gene's death took place while he was on tour doing what he loved. He went to bed after a concert and peacefully passed away. Being a fan I was saddened at first but then I thought he was doing what he loved. That's living life.
I'm sure his music will be listened to for a long time yet.
1968 bin ich nach London gereist, um Platten von Gene zu finden, die es in Deutschland damals nicht gab ... ich habe seine Musik geliebt und heute gibt sie mir die Süße der Erinnerung ... :-))))
A classic - and those final 2 notes on the piano.........
