    Fricking awesome!

  • i used to sing this song to my son when he was little.loved it xxx

  • The production on this song was totally wasted on AM radio in the 60's. Listen to the CD or LP on a good stereo..

  • @duffymfx i aint no gay

  • takes me back love his voice trish

  • French version by Claude François.

  • ay me encanto me encanto la voz del tipo

  • Such negativity concerning the woman he's singing about..... obviously, the lady was much like him, a seeker of the American dream who found a guy who was good match...

  • This is about the first song I can remember from my lifelong love affair with music. I used to get really upset at the thought of the guy being so far from home! I didn't realise at the time he was the author of his own misfortune.

  • He shouldn't have picked up that hooker at the truck stop.. hahahahaha. he will be kickin his ass, lookin for the wife back.. This trip cost him big time lol.

  • 50 cent, Eminem and Britney Spears aren't even in the same genre, so comparing them Gene Pitney makes no sense whatsoever...

  • That's what happens when you fall in love with a prostitute.

  • hes got a wonderful voice this song remids my of my mam xx

  • I really really like the Eddie Shit version.

  • YES!

I have searched for this song for ages and ages :d

    Thank you Brent441 :d

  • He was one of my favorites..Sure brings back old memories...RIP Gene

  • I feel like I don't fit, so I'm only 24 hours...

Whether that means you're guilty, gay or just from a different vibe...

  • i was only 24 toasters from scunthorpe .......

  • Fantastic.....Nuff Said....?

  • wow

  • A great era for REAL music!

  • i can remember me mam and dad playing this song on a sunday when me gran and grandad used to pop in for dinner bless all r i p now i no what class was

  • An early classic from Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and a great performance from the late Gene Pitney.

  • I like Eddie Shit's version

  • Where's the sequel? And where's the heart, man... "Hey, Babe... let me describe to you how I fell for someone else... had a one night stand... or longer... and, like, I'm gone..." Not a bad song for all that...

  • What a great song! A favorite!

  • A non-sequitir: Elvis' character in "G.I. Blues was Tulsa Mclain...

  • Tulsa is a place in Oklahoma...USA

  • @anndickinson57

usa is where ? the trash of old europa ;)

  • @stucmania ?????? stupid comment - i'm British

  • Genius! Think about what it took to put this tune together! Tulsa= A slut. what in the world kind of thinking is that? This was musical beauty.

  • beats any of the so called new singers hands down

  • Tulsa...'a slut' backwards...Burt was very smart;))))

  • How and when did he die? He was a fantastic voice, with lots of feeling in his songs!

  • @SuliemanTheGreat he died in Wales a couple of years ago...heart attack in his sleep.

  • @anndickinson57 Thank you for the information. He'll be missed, that's for sure!

  • what song well written and performed

  • my parents have passed away now but i will always remember this song when they played it on a record player in the 70 s on a sunday i thought it was shit then but i realise how wrong i am

  • OOOOooooo my ...My mother would always listen to this song

  • Wow......this is one great song. I remember I was stationed at Orlando AFB. dating a young lady by the name of Penny H......we didn't make it but his song always reminds me of her - she was quite a lady............I hope you are well Penny..............

  • I've always wondered - if he was 24 hours from Tulsa, where exactly was he?

  • Pitney he's gone

  • Gene is the best..........................

  • I'm surprised no one has ever extrapolated this song and made a movie out of it...could be very noir-ish.

  • Fan-bloody-tastic. Love his voice. One of the saddest songs ever

  • i'm not the same anymore

  • saw gene years ago he was great he is a sad loss to the music buisness

  • @Cwmbran1984 He's not that bad...

  • i luv this song and i am only 11 YEARS OLD

  • @dandyroxable Keep listening to this kind of music and you will truely be blessed with the ability to listen to music at its finest.

  • Dusty's version was good but Gene is clearly in his own league.

  • I prefer Dusty Springfields take on this song

  • @MrChrisjeffries just listend to Dusty`s take - quite good she`s a great singer - bit I think pitney`s got better backing.

  • oh dear, people deconstructing pop song lyrics before deconstructionism was a twinkle in Derrida's daddy's eye ::rolleyes

  • elvisfan you're right, but asshole or not, the situation is familiar...

the only difference, that we always choose security

  • @simontamas81 Listen closely to the end of the song. He's not happy with the choice he made, but he can't go back because he realizes what an asshole he was. That's not the sound of a man saying "I can never go home again because I'm happier with my new relationship."

  • Great song, but what a fucking asshole!!!

  • @elvisfan22 Don`t get that one ???

  • He didn't have to give his wife the gory details!

  • Dustys version was better

  • Blame the juke box !!!!!!!

  • precious,eat this Eminem,50 cents,Britney and all losers

  • @kickassfan To Kickass.... I agree with your comments. Gene was incredible. He truly loved to be in front of an audience as he often said. The time of Gene's death took place while he was on tour doing what he loved. He went to bed after a concert and peacefully passed away. Being a fan I was saddened at first but then I thought he was doing what he loved. That's living life.

I'm sure his music will be listened to for a long time yet.

  • @kickassfan your right why cant there be voices like this anymore? Because he had talent my friend. What a singer and what a song?

  • @jkoncz thanxs 4 ur comment, yes is tru only to enjoy this gem ok take care

  • @kickassfan - hear, hear. Burt Bacharach is an absolute genius. It's truer than ever now: they DON'T write songs like they used to.

  • @goldheartbadge ok thanxs 4 ur comment

  • 1968 bin ich nach London gereist, um Platten von Gene zu finden, die es in Deutschland damals nicht gab ... ich habe seine Musik geliebt und heute gibt sie mir die Süße der Erinnerung ... :-))))

  • I miss this music so very much...

  • i hope he used protection lol

  • GREAT Burt Bacharach song sung by the AWESOME Gene Pitney. GREAT STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!
