  • 2:25 - guess which one of the boys has been using the solarium in winter ;)

  • I can't believe that some of you guys think that PJ don't "understand" this song. Ed is a huge fan of The Who.

  • i usually don't like covers like this but this cover was really good!

  • @GetRhythm2011 That was one of the most ridiculous comments I've read. Y r u on here venting ur frustration abt USA? This isn't the forum. Either u like this music or not. Who cares? U think it's better worldwide? Go try it. Rural America? That's a closet.

  • In My Opinion nobody cares about your opinion......shut up and enjoy the PJ.

  • I'm sorry, but this sucks badly! The piano sucks, and the singer sounds like he's having a hard time taking a shit!

  • @GPWS339 you are not sorry, you are a douche. Thanks for coming now please gtfo.

  • Who is in Pearl Jam, besides Vedder? Who cares?

  • Eddie vedder is a good singer, when it's in his range but I still prefer the who version

  • god they did such a good job with this song. i love this band!!

  • Boom sucked on this version :/ I love Pearl Jam's version of this song (they're my favorite all-time band) but Boom's piano playing at the intro was a fucking mess

  • shame there's no footage - but awesome version - as per Pearl Jam

  • Long Live THE ALMIGHTY WHO!!! But this is a great cover and respects the music as well as rocking it. Brilliant

  • dennis quaid....

  • GREAT JOB PEARL JAM. LOVE U GUYS SO. MUCH N SHALL ALWAYS LOVE THE WHO..........REIGN ON ME..REIGN ALL OVER ME. THE NOT HOT AN BLACK AS INK. OH GOD I NEED A DRINK. OF COOL COOL RAIN......K. THE HUNTER.

  • Not a big fan of covers but this one ROCKS

  • i discover this song with the movie "Reign over me" now, it s a part of life

if i could sing, i will sing it all over and over

Eddie makes a great version of it

There is no argue in here... Just enjoy

  • Paul Ralston 'Life' in words

  • This is so much better than the old version! Evolution is a real thing, as evidenced by this cover. This is one of few bands playing rock n roll that's still good.

  • @JohnnyD0nny The Who just had so much more POWER!! when i hear Roger sing this i well up.... i wanna scream the lyrics! with this version it is a great rock song and done very well, but it just doesnt hit my heart and make me feel that passion in the way that it does when The Who play it. I think it comes down to musical taste. (:

  • The Who's version is much better! My opinion!

  • this sound's better then THE WHO? Sorry it is better by E.V

  • schwer zu machen, sie haben es sich getraut

  • nice try, keep on rehearsing. Then one fine day perhaps...

  • Yikes! Talk about ruining a song!

PJ didn't understand this song, its meter and cadence and its attachment to the Quadraphenia story.

This sounds like a bad sea-shanty.

  • Bad cover^^

studio version from pearl jam is better than the life version^^

THE WHO is ver mutch better than this^^

  • @RobinTomHanks21

Actually , in my opinion, this version has a lot more emotion into it than the The who version.

  • @xxqcwaslukxx

    In my opinion... not.

  • The Who version much better!!!

  • Just an awful job on an otherwise brilliant classic. It may as well have been done by an orchestra of people doing the armpit fart.

  • That was the lamest piano intro to that song I've ever heard.

  • Most of the audience was probably thinking. "hmmm must be a new song by Pearl Jam".

  • @wovokanarchy Ofcourse, they are danish!

  • It's just not the same without the strings section, and the pianist seems off.

  • This is an abomination ...dude! Desecration of a classic song. Truly disgusting. No musicanship....IMHO

  • The cover itself has improved in recent years, Boom can play the piano parts better and the instrumental in general has had a few tweaks. Then again this was their first go at the song.

  • better than the original i love his voice

  • @freedumb2003 Troll...

  • @carrotcakerocker

No, just a rock affectionado. One who really likes good rock and not this badly-executed crap.

  • I love PJ but they do a way better one at VH1 Rock honours ! Vedder goes off key here a lot! :P

  • well thars how to kill a fcking song

  • pj can't even sip Roger Daltry's bollocks' sweat.

This not only sucks as a cover, it sucks on its own two legs. Proof pj was and is overrated and under-talented.

  • @freedumb2003 The only thing that was proven is that you, my friend, are an idiot :)

  • @Takatussel

And you are hard of hearing or tone-deaf or both.

    And a jerk

    :)

  • Comment removed

  • @Takatussel

You really don't get it. The TOTUS-reader IS the new Hitler. He desires nothing less than total subjugation of all the USA and the total annihilation of Israel.

But it doesn't suprise me that you are too slow to get the point -- it was designed for intelligent people.

  • @freedumb2003 I'm not the person glorifying Hitler with their profile picture...jerk :)

  • To compare covers to the original versions is always a stupid game. Anyway, this cover is very very good. PJ respect The Who so much that if themselves thought they were not able to play in a decent way, they would have never played it.

  • u know when you hear a song in your life and then you hear it later in life and it blow's you away it's epic. i LUV IT

  • this and heart's version are the best i've heard so far- gr8 song

  • YES, AS LONG AS IT'S GOOD.WELL, IT'S NOT BAD BUT UNCOMPARABLE.

  • YES, AS LONG AS IT'S GOOD.

  • @cokefire66 without the who there'd be no pearl jam. They do not suck.

  • dont believe the hype...this is a crap cover ....and theres not even anythhig orignal about there version ,poor

  • @2bsom1 But of course is not good, no one like the who

  • @2bsom1 Arguing about music is like dancing about arcitecture. It's fucking retarded.

  • eddie has an amazing rock voice. very nice cover

  • The singing was actually abismal. However I did like the piano.

  • this is shit

  • Pearl jam is good (not good at covers obv. sorry) Tool is Great and The Who is amazing. Overall though The Who and Tool are not close to the same type of music so why are people comparing them? I was too lazy to look back at all the comments to see why but that's my opinion

  • If one can listen to this forgetting theres an original (which we should in this case to enjoy)...you respect for Eddie will just increase...what a performer...

  • No matter how many notes he misses or how badly he butchers a song, Ed still manages to make it sound so cool

  • Talent + Humility + Good Taste = Eddie

  • I wish Matt Cameron's mix was hotter, he's the real star on this stage. A truly talented drummer!!!

  • tough song to sing

  • that is a great version of a great song

  • Their studio cover of this song is awesome. They don't quite pull it off live.

  • @detroitbob

They definitely pulled if off at the Rock Honors show. It was pretty epic!

  • No puedo procesarla, amo demasiado la versión original.

  • This is a joke, right?? Roger, way over the 'hill' was infinitely better in 1996 that this 'attempt'

  • horrible......

  • A Cover full of Respect for its original ..... Great Job ..... imo

  • That's one performance for the ages..

  • I really like this version, but I prefer the legendary group THE WHO!

  • Pearl jam knows what is good rock, nice version of the WHO and nice try, but not cigar.

  • it is not about doing something better than the original, just doing your own version of it...

    When will people realise that?

  • Never. Unfortunately.

  • Never, people are too stupid to understand that life, and everything we do in it, is not a contest. They have to assign winners and losers to everything so they can side with the winner and validate themselves in some way.

  • @thrashguitarmaster70 That's so right! Stop the judging, mothatfuckers!!

  • @Ekyvvsaq I totally agree with his comments and i totally agree with yours. I just want to say i admire the finishing touch lol

  • @thrashguitarmaster70 finally, an intelligent comment, life's not a contest, period

  • @thrashguitarmaster70 nicely said.

  • @thrashguitarmaster70 Seriously, people are too stupid?? People get intrenched in the things that they love...we see that everywhere. This is a very virile, passionate expression of the original. I love both versions. The song is classic - as we know from the fact that Pearl Jam bothered.

  • @thrashguitarmaster70 Thats loser talk.

  • @thrashguitarmaster70 TOALLY AGREE WITH YOU!! frm: kellyrendathewolf@yahoo.com

  • @thrashguitarmaster70 TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!! frm: kellyrendathewolf@yahoo.com

  • @thrashguitarmaster70 So go tell that to Simon Cowell and Fox and see if they go for that dreamy comment of yours. They'll show you their Bentleys, Rolexes, yachts and mansions and then get yo booed off the stage. I'm with you man, but you are so outnumbered by the millions who give into the greed and avarice.

  • @Ekyvvsaq this is shit

  • @PDXland37 If you dont like it, stay away from this video!!

  • @Ekyvvsaq yeah, when you look at DMB's cover of all along the watch tower, its totaly different than the others...but its still amazing

  • @Ekyvvsaq Yeah its like, "Oh, I like this song but if Ive come up with it, I would have make it sound like this."

  • @Ekyvvsaq no higher honor than a tribute.

  • @Ekyvvsaq Yeah but doing it shitly is another thing...

  • @Ekyvvsaq Is "realise" your version of the word realize?

  • @msharmsen actually, realise is correct british english. just thought you might want to know. oh yeah - great who cover.

  • @msharmsen Oh My Gosh. Have you lived in a closet your whole life? I've lived in very rural America for all of mine and I have always known whenever you see what the rest of the world spells with an "s" is spelled instead with a "z" it is American English. As in United States. Unbelievable. Get used to seeing it with an "s" in numerous words that America permanently borrowed (not steal, as that would tarnish its already pathetic image) from Britain. USA, The United States of Arrogance. ;)

  • @GetRhythm2011 THEN MOVE YOUR STUPID ASS OUT OF THIS COUNTRY YOU HATE SO FUCKING MUCH. NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR YOUR FUCKING GOD SAVE THE OLD AS DIRT QUEEN BULLSHIT.

  • Nothing compares to the Who's version

  • Wow!!!!That was awesome!!!!

  • That was Painful.

  • lol @0:04 ...you don't say. ever heard it before? ;D

  • Well......that was really bad. Better luck next time boys.

  • Oh no...this was just wrong on so many levels. :(

  • I'm sorry, so many things went wrong in this live performance. The group is absolutely phenomenal, one of my favorites of all time. It just turned out, eh, this time.

  • of course TOOL have written songs as good as this. they are different thats all. 10000 days is unquestionably one of the most epic and genuinely emotional songs ever written. the principles of addition that tool use in their composition and their time signatures are masterful. however this isnt to take away from this song. its truly magnificent as is eddie vedder. the only thing that seperates eddie and maynard is your own personal opinion though both are equally as amazing

  • You do know this is a Who song, right? You sound like you think it's a Pearl Jam song. Don't get me wrong, I love Pearl Jam. I just saw them on Fri. But this is a Who (Pete Townshend) song.

  • Yeah this is a fucking hard song and Eddie goes for it. I prefer the original, but Daltrey happens to be on a very VERY short list of singers I like more than Vedder. They're both excellent performances.

  • very hard to do this excellent song live for any singer. am not big on The Who personally but they wrote some iconic songs..

i gotto say my fave The Who cover was "the real me" by WASP.

  • i saw the who perform this at the gorge in 2002

    it was epic

  • Yes...The Who!!! I love Pearl jam!!! Pete Townshend is a musical genius!!!

  • Eddie wrote this after a one night stand with Courtney Love and she pissed on him.

  • Eddie didn't write this. Pete Townshend did and it was recorded when Eddie was 6 years old. Are you that stupid!!!

  • im pretty sure it was a joke.. hence the piss part... "Pissed on him".... ( rain o'er me" )

  • A joke??? Aren't jokes supposed to be funny?? That's just fucking stupid!!!

  • it was a play on words... or a pun....

    lighten the fuck up douche.

at least i can agree with you on your musical tastes.

  • I don't know who you are...but at least get your facts straight...This is a Who song..Pete Townshend wrote it...So the pun doesn't make sense..

  • And I can bet my life....you would NOT call me a douche to my face!!! THAT...is a fact BOY!!!

  • i know it was written by pete.... i am a huge Who fan...

the joke was lame, i didnt even give it props for being funny.... i was just trying to help you see that the guy that wrote it was just being a troll....

    you are extremely sensitive......

get past it. lets enjoy the song, im tired of arguing with you when i'd rather hear this music!

    cheers.

  • Heart also does a fantastic cover of this song, probably better since Ann Wilson's voice is better suited for this song. Vedder does a pretty good job but high pitched screaming isn't his forte'.

  • Well said.

We saw Heart do it live last month at Freedom Hall, and it was one of the best live performances of any song I've ever experienced.

  • I saw Heart at the New York State Fair in 2008 with Cheap Trick and Journey. Hart was, IMO, easily the best of the show. I would go far as to say it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen.

  • "tbcass" is right. These are great concerts that deserve our support.

But let's not forget our local pubs. That's where Eddie, Nancy & Ann, and Pete got their starts decades ago.

My wife and I went to an airport pub last night just to see who's playing. They were great! We put $20 in their tip jar.

I hope to see them some day at Freedom Hall or the New York State Fair.

If we don't, what do we get? Corporate boy bands and female pole dancers?

  • It would be great to see Pearl Jam open for the Who!! Now that would be one great fucking show!!!!!

  • different but great cover

  • I want to go to a Who concert so fuckin bad.

  • Greatest ever!!! Seen the Who over 25 times in the last 30 years. There is no equal!!

  • i must disagree with that. tool is right up there with them. not better but on the same level

  • I was replying to allinrizzo. He said he wanted to go to a Who concert. I can't put Tool on the same level as the Who. Not even close.

  • to put them on a different level would assume they had similar methodology. to say they're better or worse is fairly ignorant.

  • Tool is NOT and will NEVER be on the same level as the Who. To think that they are or will be is what's ignorant.

  • i suppose you'll say king crimson couldn't be anywhere close, either.

  • Now you're just being silly. Comparing King Crimson to the Who is like comparing Eric Snow to Michael Jordan.

  • Nothing against Tool...but they have never written a masterpiece like this.

  • pearl jam too...

    this song belongs to TheWho!!!!!

  • Long Live The Who!!!! Long Live Pearl Jam!!!

  • @dersh65 yes... well put mate

  • the fact that you don't know the name of either of the pianists makes your post barely relevant.

  • Pearl Jam follows The Who in doing complete justice to this powerfully beautiful song. Love it. Perfect song for Adam Sandler's movie .. genius has no problem recognizing genius.

  • Yeah i really like the series. john's role was best. i was 20 when i watched the film. coincidence?

  • good song

  • yes,it`s a good song

but the original love reign oèr me is from The Who

  • nowhere near as good as the original by the who

  • original actually by Pete Townsend ;o)

  • this song is amazing¡¡¡¡

  • Yeah this song was used in Reign Over Me with Adam Sandler. Great movie btw, I advise yall watch it. ^^

  • Just saw it again. See also Into the Wild for Eddie. I'm an old 60s guy and have Quad as my gem, plus the movie of course. Please dont make stupid comparisons. This is about LOVE ! all we got...!

  • yeah, that film suprised me, sandler was so powerful in it, wasnt expectin it, great film, and the song fits perfectly

  • Which film?

  • i think " could be wrong its been ages since i watched it" it was actually called reign over me, adam sandlers in it, great film, check it out!!

  • Yeah, 'Reign over me', that's a good film. It has the Who version of this song in it.

  • nope thats the whole reason pearl jam covered it was for the movie

  • FUCK SALT

  • it wasnt that bad simonsmusic

  • what is the piano player doing in the beginning??!!

i can't believe pearl jam dare enter the stage with crap like that!! listen to the studio version it's so perfect and the atmosphere is mind blowing. but here in this live version this feeling is disturbed by such a dilltantish chopping on the piano...

i'm sorry, i love pearl jam and i just bought a ticket for one of their european concerts in august but when i pay 80 dollars for a ticket i expect more than that!

  • He's trying to build anticipation. If you've ever been to a concert, people tend to goof around with beginnings of songs to catch people unexpected.

  • well he caught me quite unexpected in this case =D

  • Comment removed

  • "yeah bubba you tell that dirty jew that he's a jew."

you fuckin ignorant prick use some of that 10% of ur damn brain, at least to think about whaT you say BEFORE you say it. Numb Nuts

  • What??? Stop with all this racism. Adam and Eddie are Jewish.

  • Eddie is not Jewish

  • He's an atheist. But his grandmother was Jewish.

  • I saw them play this in mansfield last year. The beginning sounded a lot better than this. Trust me . Pearl Jam is one of the best bands in the world. You will not be disappointed with their live performance.
