The NeoCons took over the party, they were liberals during the vietnam war (not against war but for self preservation)and suddenly switched sides, they forged a bizarre alliance with social conservatives who naively vote on any issue as instructed aslong as Abortions are condemned.

Take back your party! I have many friends who are registered Republicans and I hear the same plaint from all of them and I give them the same answer I give you. Take back your party, a true conservative party is a vital part of the political landscape in America. Sound fiscal policies, strong resistance to foreign involvements and wise business guidance is your forte, get back to basics. My party needs to do the same, but that's another story.

Barry Goldwater was a true conservative, Reagan was a con artist and a swindler. Time for Republicans to finally figure out that winning the contest by selling your soul is the truest definition of a Pyrrhic Victory. Everyone is throwing stones right now trying to assign blame for the mess we now find ourselves in, but the roots of this mess started growing in 1981 with Reaganomics and now we are left with nothing but overleveraged mega corps and consumers ass deep in debt. Absolutely, when you mention this to conservatives they will say that all doesnt matter because Reagan defeated the soviets - to which I normally say NO, Carter defeated the soviets by signing the law ordering the CIA to help the afghan resistance Reagan only continued it.

Don't forget Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford. They all stood the line. And just a bit of credit should go to our Military forces who stood guard across the world, sometimes making the ultimate sacrifice.

Thanks, but i beat you to it LOL. Besides, that's what I was damn near screaming back then, I'm just shocled that it took this long for the hammer to finally fall. The 'Peace Dividend' and the Internet/PC pop both helped to stave off the inevitable collapse that Reagans follies made certain.

Hammer did fall several times but was cushioned by GH Bush being financially responsible (raising taxes) and clinton improving the economy/creating jobs.

Reagan & GW exemplify the results of electing shallow leaders, men who cannot inspire to lead but won popularity contests by appealing to the most basic of human desires.
