@microdot its interesting because you are totally right. Technology has a way of freezing itself in time. They used some funky crap to record music back then.
@subsamadhi I experienced it live....I was very involved in this world back in the late 70's and early 80's. I was the "roadie" for Branca as well as a friend and of course a musician as well. He really influenced how I hear and create. What Branca does live is create aural physical hallucinations. The sum of the overtones, interference patterns and volume create another level of sound that I have only experienced "live".
@microdot That's cool I got into Sonic Youth when I was younger I've seen them live a few times. I saw Thurston Moore live last summer herre where I live. I never got into Glenn Branca a whole lot I'm not really into the strictly instrumental thing unless it's classical music. Must've been fun though.
@jasonbigelow i wouldnt go as far as saying "ripped off." they def had much of the style, but SY and Glenn were born of the same scene. so itd only make sense that they would.
@jasonbigelow yes... but if you read the Sonic Youth biography you'll find that Brinca actually loves and supports sonic youth for what they do... he said that he almost "came [his] pants" when he herd them jam together for the first time.
I wish I could hear this live....there is no existing technology that could record or reproduce this music.

It's almost ridiculous how much Sonic Youth stole from Branca.

¡Absolutamente impresionante! Histérico, esquizofrénico, laberíntico, industrial... ¡Progresivamente maravilloso!

@rimbaudelairement Glenn Branca should have done the soundtrack to 2001: A Space Odyssey.
