  • hi

  • XD LOL "Men and thier wars!.....Sometimes I think they raise flags when they can't get nothin' else up!"-You said it Bertha!

  • She is soooo tiny and adorable.

I love this show. It's just incredible.

Long live Bob Fosse! Through his work, his performers and his loyal fans. <3

  • If they were to revive this show anytime in the near future, I'd want Angela Lansbury as Berthe.

  • @theatrefan06 here here!

  • @theatrefan06 YES.

  • hes not fake laughing at 1:16

  • But was Irene Ryan ever filmed in the performance? I know she was on the album. It would be so great to see her onstage.

  • @weightfeather1 I remembering being told about Irene's final performance in Pippin in my acting class in middle school. So mind blowing to think about that!

  • I love this song. I'm a techie and this is the first musical I ever worked on and this song just made me love theatre.

  • Martha's great. and this was a great show.

  • i dont get the joke....

  • I saw Irene Ryan do this on Broadway and she was just wonderful.

  • @swissmiss150

    I did also...it was magic.

  • we saw yesterday this wonderful and joiness musical,in a little city near Saronno in Italy. The artists sang in italian rightly, ma the tests and musics were the same. The company is a new group of Cirimido near Como. They were great.

  • I love this song. When our high school did it, all cast and crew not on stage would gather backstage and encourage the audience to sing by joining in at full volume. We had so much fun with it.

  • Lulz, follow the bouncing spotlight kiddies!

  • How old was William Katt in this video?

  • Great song I had to sing it for an audition and I got the lead it was the mist amazing song ever!!!

  • Irene Ryan was extraordinary in this role. Martha Raye is extremely good here too. Just a great live performance. I love how there just is no fourth wall. Great song.

  • Nobody compared to her in this role!! this song is SO great!!!

  • Talent is what makes things work. No subsititute

  • I love her;D lol

  • I like this song ^^

  • My school just had a play about pippin

  • This is fantastic! I didn't even know this version of "Pippin" even existed until today! Martha Raye is FANTASTIC!!!

  • I guess there is no flim of Irene in Pippin?

  • when did she die

  • in 1994

  • @sharkfin478 She died? D:

  • this is what we're doing this year in school :)

  • What does this have to do with Lord of The Rings?

  • @LordRaven94: not a thing. Why do you ask?

  • this is my favorite song, when we put it on at our school me and the rest of the crew would sing it over our walkie talkies half us up in the balcony directing lights and the rest back stage.

  • William Katt looked hot in 1981.

  • William Katt. He was also in the movie Carrie.

  • William Katt trivia. He starred in a TV series called the Greatest American Hero. He is also the son of the woman who played Perry Mason's assistant on the series of the same same.

  • corny

  • what a fun song!

  • who is the actor that plays "pippin"??? he is soooo FINE!!! i looks so "yummy"!!!

  • William Katt, from "The Greatest American Hero". He also appeared as the Flower Angel Prince in "Thumbelina" (Wow, not a manly word in that sentence) and later played a creepy Gary Condit-like politician on "Son of the Beach".

  • "sometimes i think men raise flags when they can't get anything else up"

  • i loved his reaction when she said that!! xD priceless.

"Grandma, sometimes you say shocking things!" xD roflmao

  • Martha Raye was a riot! Look at the scene where she says, "sometimes I think men raise flags when they can't raise anything else up"; the actor William Katt can't even keep a straight face.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!

and I love this play =D

  • Amen. She's great in her role.

  • I have to do this in about two weeks. thanks for posting.

  • 1:13

    BA DUM TISH

  • Was Irene Ryan ever filmed in her performance? I know she died only after a few months of performing. From what I've heard her performance was incredible.

  • I'm not sure about the filming but she is on a cast album that is available on CD. I really liked her version.

  • She actually died backstage at Pippin. I think that is the coolest story. She acted up until the VERY end.

  • Is that true ?

  • Fo sho

  • No. Irene Ryan did. Not martha raye.

  • She had a stroke while performing, and then she died a few days later.

  • yeah she was backstage and she was about to go on. they had to stop the whole show. William Katt sang at her funeral.

  • that was irene ryan, not martha raye.

  • Martha Raye lingered for years. You mean Irene Ryan.

  • Up until the late 80s, Martha was still in relatively good shape kept working, But eventually her years of drinking caught up with her and the last 6 or 7 years of her life were spent in and out of hospitals. A year prior to her death due to circulation problems both of her legs were amputated.

  • @TheGrlLeastLikely2 : Actually, Irene Ryan suffered a stroke backstage, but didn't die until a few days after that, in a hospital in California.

  • @kymarcin NO she never made it to the filming, but she is on the cast recording.

  • @kymarcin yeah it was sad, she lost both of her legs before she died so she really suffered.

  • @kymarcin oops i thought you said martha raye.. not irene ryan. sorry!!

  • @kymarcin Miss Ryan died during the original B'way run. I'd loved to have seen her do this. I notice here that they cut the lyric, " Nook and cranny.....being called GRANNY". This was cut, I'm sure in deference to Ryan..that was her lyric -- ode to Granny from The Beverly Hillbillies.

  • @tallpaul521 Ryan was great. But God did I HATE this stupid show. All flash and no substance. I did this show in college right after it closed on Broadway and being in this number made us cry every night from the deafening applause. What fun.

  • @pudgeuncle Fosse and Schwartz had different visions for this show. Fosse won out. I was the magic consultant on several productions. I always thought it was a fun show.

  • @kymarcin she is on the original broadway cast recording of pippin

  • gah I love this song too much!

  • Martha Raye - Awesome!

  • So much fun to come across this. Saw the show on Broadway in 1975, original run though not original cast at that point. Clicked on the Irene Ryan audio, too. Nice trip back in time.

  • I love the whole sing-a-long thing in the back

  • Never get rid of this! Great message in a wonderful song!

  • Martha Raye was great... she made me laugh even before opening her mouth! A great performance!! 5/5

  • I don't get the grandma suggesting some "hanky panky." Love Martha Raye, however.

  • you need to see the whole play to get the context.

  • and do the reasearch

  • She's departing wisdom from experience.

  • anybody else see the ridiculous jump-cut from 4:14 to 4:15? Other than that great number!

  • love this it is awesome!!! I LOVE PIPPIN!!! lol!!! Bertha is so funny!!!
