No matter how much Dublin neglected NI, it ALL stems back to British imperialism.

They weren't at the time. Lloyd George threatened the Free State with "terrible and immediate war" if they didn't accept the terms of the treaty. The 1925 negotiations were about the boundaries of Northern Ireland, not the question of whether it would cease to exist. It was expected amongst the catholic population of the North that the nationalist border areas would be ceded to the South. It's clear now however that Britain and the new Northern Irish establishment wouldn't have let this happen.
PS. I agree that the Southern government didn't do enough for the North, they were too self interested and feared the risk. But you have to understand that partition broke the nationalist movement. It broke the spirit for Irish self-determination. It broke the working class. After partition & the implementation of unconditional one party rule, there was no longer any hope of expecting Catholics and Protestants to unite. A thing that's absolutely essential to any prospect of Irish reunification.

Had the Dáil in Dublin been stronger, Ireland would be a whole country now, but they didn’t want the problem of policing NI. Britain was left to clean up the bloody mess that Irishmen had created.

No. Britain created the colonial division, they perpetuated and strengthened it with laws to socially, economically and religiously disadvantage one section of the community which polarised Irish society long before NI existed. Britain then made it's minions the Unionist Party a majority by creating the supremacist state which solidified these divisions. Irish people did not create NI "bazza", Britain did. No matter how much Dublin neglected NI, it ALL stems back to British imperialism.

They weren't at the time. Lloyd George threatened the Free State with "terrible and immediate war" if they didn't accept the terms of the treaty. The 1925 negotiations were about the boundaries of Northern Ireland, not the question of whether it would cease to exist. It was expected amongst the catholic population of the North that the nationalist border areas would be ceded to the South. It's clear now however that Britain and the new Northern Irish establishment wouldn't have let this happen.

PS. I agree that the Southern government didn't do enough for the North, they were too self interested and feared the risk. But you have to understand that partition broke the nationalist movement. It broke the spirit for Irish self-determination. It broke the working class. After partition & the implementation of unconditional one party rule, there was no longer any hope of expecting Catholics and Protestants to unite. A thing that's absolutely essential to any prospect of Irish reunification.
