It meant so much when this song came out. I was young. Never in love but wanted to. Never thought it would happen. It did. It lived. It died. And now this song has a different meaning, yet it's just the same. In everything, there are no guarantees. In everything...
Yes, this song is very special to me .... I did some naughty things in my life, and when this was produced, I was soliciting around the Kings Cross area .... great video
Oque é música? Música é tudo oque você já ouviu!! King´s Cross? King´s Cross não é música, é uma obra de arte...é um verdadeiro Hino!!!! Parabéns Cris e Neil. Outra banda como os Pet Shop Boys, só depois que Jesus voltar!!!!

Such a beautiful song. The new generations should listen to this kind of music so that they can realise what real music is. Nowadays music leaves a lot to be desired.
@1985OMD please stop this tired, boring shit, and go and listen to the xx or something. great music is still being made, and it's your issue if you can't recognise it.

@baboon2525 I don't give a fucking shit about you think and don't you fucking tell me what kind of music I've got to listen to...if you don't like my comment just sue me motherfucker
@1985OMD get a little perspective sweetheart! All I'm saying is that, in 1987, there would have been people like you saying "Oh, this new Pet Shop Boys electro stuff is shit, we should all be listening to music from 1973". It's tired, reactionary and boring.
@1985OMD agree with you, absolutely, because I remember when one was saying that Pet Shop was bullsh, let's listen to T-Rex.. Now we have great stuff too, but one thing that '80ies I think were peak of pop music, a lot of good melodies, styles were being created and that incredible aura and mood, it is unforgettable, unique.. as todays music of course
Para mi, sin lugar a dudas, la mejor canción que han podido hacer hasta la fecha. Dudo en lo que les quede de carrera puedan hacer algo superior a King's Cross. Simplemente lo mas perfecto que ha ido a parar en mis orejas.
So I went looking out today for the one who got away murder walking round the block ending up in king's cross good luck bad luck waiting in a line it takes more then matter of time. Someone told me monday someone told me saturday wait until tomrrow and there's still no way. read it in a book or write it in a letter wake up in the morning and there's still no guarantee. love the lyrics and the song <3
There is nothing stronger and will not exist, that the Kin g's Cross, this song is the top of which can exist in all directions, melody, timbres, etc;King's Cross 100% perfect ;PSB 200% perfect! Tennant and Lowe are to the music, as Jesus is for us humans.
i was only born in the nineties but the 70's and 80's looked to be a great time to live. the music, the people, the setting... wonderful and this shows it. I only listen to 70's and 80's music because like this, it moves me. Things have changed a lot over time.
It was kind of miserable too, but upon reflection I kind of loved London in the 80s. It's way too shrill and packed now. Every generation is different I guess, you'll probably get nostalgic for it as it is now in 20 years!
I was in the Army in the 80's and we used to travel a lot by train, I can still smell that station and those trains! Never forget the squealing noise they made as they pulled in.
I love all of their songs and its difficult to choose any favs, but this is definitely one of them. The music, lyrics, Neil's singing its wonderful :)
Ahhh - The Intercity 125 - the age of the train.. Is it me but didnt things work so much better then - I mean we have so many cases of an overuse of technology and then half the time shit doesnt work. Remember roughing it at Kings X once or twice in the late 80s/early nineties. The 80s Iam stuck in,my cassette walkman,my VHS recorder,my film SLR, my taste in 80s music and film..
I remember catching the Intercity 125 from Sheffield to London in the very late 80's listening to this on cassette on my sony walkman. The video captures the mood of the track perfectly. Chris Lowe in the video, don't you just wanna hug him?
Beautiful song...with such a tragic tone of loneliness. I live in Seattle but can completely relate to this song. When I go downtown and wait for the bus to go to the university, it feels just like this--especially in the evening and early morning.
heartbreaking and sad,one of their very best songs,PSB do melancholy better than pretty much any pop/synth band out there, heck anyone really..this and Being Boring are proof of that for me.Love ya Neil and Chris :')
Germans are often not so quick when it comes to the lyrics of a song. This one is the classic exception- from the first moment I heard this song I knew I wanted to understand it. Why? I think it´s magic. Later I moved to London for a year, and you know where I stranded first? Yes. It´s true.
I once borrowed Actually from the library, and was listening to it in bed. At some time I had fallen asleep, and suddenly I had a dream where I was on some sort of trainstation, and everything was black/white, and just when I woke up, the last part of Kings Cross was being played. So that video really surprised me.
The song itself is brilliant. And one of the saddest tunes I've heard.
I've always loved this song and PSB. Interesting to hear some of the previous comments about this song...the fire and reputation of King's Cross. Been to London as a tourist but never knew this song had an underlying theme. I always put King's Cross into my own reality as I do with many PSB songs.
Yep, always LOVED Kings Cross song - a very dramatic number and definitely a fitting end to the Actually Album, the album of my youth actually! :-)
I LOVE this film, an extension from "Rent" music video. Always felt this affection towards the *star* of the film - OUR Chris Lowe - who comes across as this shy, rather timid out-of-towner arriving in London for the first time!
It takes more than a matter of time. As easy as true, and PetShopBoys were first to understand the tragedy. And not only that, no, they made a hymn out of it. That is real pop music.
PSB and DM were my first favorite bands. I think I was 12 when I became their fan. Tennant is intelligent and both of them make first class pop music and have artistic videos. Though I have a nick with '985 in it, which is my sisters year of birth, actually I'm a 33 years old woman. And very nostalgic about this and other songs, espacially the "Actually" album. This video is very simple but extremely touching.
I was very young then but still knew that it was a great time for songs. 'Actually' album was one of the first albums i actually bought ..i still love all the songs in it.
We are both so the same. I'm 34 I was a hard core PSB fan since 12 to 16 years old. Then I fell in love with the mode and have been a fan ever since. PSB and DM are my all time favourites. This song and 'It couldn't happen here are very dear to me. 'Actually' and 'Please' are very special albums.
theres nothing romantic of being in a situation where you are left vunerable to abuse, but i suppose if you did end up being a rent boy, you could probably listen to this song and still have some pride left, its very well done and heart breaking to listen to. sry people.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I do like this song but cant say i aprove of "rent-boy-is'm" at any time. Back in the Eightys that was probably the only realistic thing that would happen to you if you ran away from home and went to kings cross station, you ended up selling your ass so you could eat and probaly dieing of aids or heroin overdose in the end. Guilty of hanging around, come on!, sry peeps dont want to ruin your romantic sadness of this song but truth isn't really that good, unless you are gay or a marxist cunt.
I adore this guys. Always perfect, i think no one group can sing sadness the way they do. I love the sensation to feel lost, landed on uncertain present and seen not future, guilty and never finding the way... walking and walking and travel and travel and "there still no guarantee. Love this song. Genius always and really gentlemen both. I miss Neil face in the video but his voice and their art speaks why they are icons.
im from newcastle uk and the train to london which i went on on the 80's now odd times go to king's cross reminds me of the 80's and joanne ridley, lol me and my girl sitcom she mentions it , it's on here
When I was a kid in 1987 I had no idea what this song was about. Then I went to university, took a course on Marxism and modern British history and realized just how vehemently anti-Thatcherite (...to feel the smack of firm government) the sentiment of this song (and the entire Actually album) really is. Neil Tennant said in an interview that he was referencing King's Cross train station, which in the 80's was just "littered with dirty smelly bodies," hence "dead and wounded on either side."
i was (i belive)11 when i got this album on tape, and remember around 3 months after i got it the kings cross fire disaster happened..dead and wounded on either side-you know it's only a matter of time..no one saw that comming,i wonder how neil and chris felt after that?
It was going to be the next single after Always on my Mind until that happened so they didn't release it. Especially as it shows a man on fire in the video.
When i first heard this i was 18 and now i'm 25 but my love, awe and admiration for this song is increasing day by day. That's why we call this a masterpiece.80s was something out of this world and PSB(king cross)was like icing on the cake. Magical 80s please come back 'cause once you get a taste of awesomeness you can never settle for something less.
on the eastern holidays i opened my bag with old pet shop boys cds and i was surprised that the old songs of the 80s and of the early 90s still have such a good quality
the old songs remind me of the school years where i had been listenin
They've really fucked up Kings Cross since this vid was made.

The king Cross area of London is known for male prostitution. That is what the song is about.
kdacx1 3 years ago 5
It's in reference to prostitution in general. The Pet Shop Boys didn't look at the world through a gay prism.

Never said that they did mate

Derek Jarman collaborated with Pet Shop boys on other songs as well. Love both Jarman and Pet Shop Boys a lot....
Beautiful....thanx jimidnite. :)

Love DM too, they dont make music like this anymore :( too much rap and crap

I was very young then but still knew that it was a great time for songs. 'Actually' album was one of the first albums i actually bought ..i still love all the songs in it.

We are both so the same. I'm 34 I was a hard core PSB fan since 12 to 16 years old. Then I fell in love with the mode and have been a fan ever since. PSB and DM are my all time favourites. This song and 'It couldn't happen here are very dear to me. 'Actually' and 'Please' are very special albums.

theres nothing romantic of being in a situation where you are left vunerable to abuse, but i suppose if you did end up being a rent boy, you could probably listen to this song and still have some pride left, its very well done and heart breaking to listen to. sry people.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I do like this song but cant say i aprove of "rent-boy-is'm" at any time.

Congratulations UK. Kisses Pet. Love you so much.

Perfect song. It's so sad and beautiful as well. There's no doubt that PSB is one of the best bands ever.

FranklyMisterShankly 3 years ago 4
i was (i belive)11 when i got this album on tape, and remember around 3 months after i got it the kings cross fire disaster happened..dead and wounded on either side-you know it's only a matter of time..no one saw that comming,i wonder how neil and chris felt after that?
jacko352 3 years ago 4
