Basically the SS money that you have paid into your entire working life (which is not an entitlement because you paid for it) is being used to pay for the "Bush Era tax cuts" for the wealthy. They took the money from SS fund (which had a surplus) and used that money to pay for the tax cuts the wealthy are now getting? If we have to have tax (which I don't believe are needed in the first place) there should be a national sales tax and no income tax. @Huboons First of all, I did not misquote Buffet. It is kind of hard to take something like that out of context. Secondly, there is a moral basis for a progressive tax system. If you have someone who makes 25k a year paying 10% and Bill Gates paying 10%, the person who makes 25k is being taxed harder because their money doesn't go as far as Bill's does. If Gates were to pay a few more hundred thousand dollars a year due to a higher rate, he simply wouldn't even miss it.

I'm a government worker and we need to grow the public sector in order to have more mobility and better pensions. The private sector, on the other hand, needs to give more money to the government. We need to raise tases on the private sector, while making sure will grow the public sector unions in their size, scope and power.
Most of the governments costs are entitlement programs. A closer look at recipients could reduce the cost. Those who can work could reduce their dependence or tax payers money. It is too easy to get on the dole . There is no incentive to stand on your own. Teach a man to fish don't give him fish.

Also, the rich don't pay more, they have so many loopholes it's ridiculous. Warren Buffet even complained that he pays less than his secretary who earns $60k a year.

@Huboons First of all, I did not misquote Buffet. It is kind of hard to take something like that out of context. Secondly, there is a moral basis for a progressive tax system. If you have someone who makes 25k a year paying 10% and Bill Gates paying 10%, the person who makes 25k is being taxed harder because their money doesn't go as far as Bill's does. If Gates were to pay a few more hundred thousand dollars a year due to a higher rate, he simply wouldn't even miss it.

Since then I have paid off all my student loans, my house and bought a new car outright. Before that I was poor and lived paycheck to paycheck. When you add up social security tax, sales tax, property tax, gasoline tax, electricity tax, internet tax & 100s of other state, county, & local taxes, registrations, licenses, fees, tolls, fines, ect - they are already paying between 15-20% of income in taxes.
But when you get over $75k, we need a real graduated tax schedule like we had in the 80s.

"He should be leading, he's the leader"
When someone says their head is going to explode, it's generally assumed they're being hyperbolic. I really, truly, honestly wish that my head would explode. I don't know how much longer I can take this.
The president presents a plan - he's leading. He cuts spending. He does what you want. He gets his own side to agree to your demands before you make them. And when that's all said and done, he's not even "leading" to you.
They're useless. I'm depressed.

@bigcomcast funny because the actual idea is to continue to pay off all benefits while preventing people from entering into social security--so if you pay in, you get paid back, if you havent paid in, and the plan is to stop people from doing so, you wont get anything

One thing I hate are ppl like my parents who support the GOP and they only make about 75K a year. they don't realize that the GOP is going to screw them when they retire. 401k from that combined salary jsut isn't gonna cut it. But the according to them the GOP is trying to conserve. No they are trying to steal.

I hate the fucking GOP!!! They are hypocritical assholes. I disagree with Ron Paul views on how goverment should work but at least he is a man of principal. I agree with him on some issues! Legalize and tax marijuana, End the wars now and close most bases around the world. There is no fucking threat to Europe anymore why the hell are we still in germany, Marijuana taxation would bring in around 10 billion a year, Ending the wars and ending the empire would save over 150 billion a year! @REGGIE45205 actually the US dosn't have their own bases in Europe. They use bases that already belong to the their stationed in country in.
In the UK for example, The USAF uses RAF bases to station their Nato forces just as the RAF have units stationed in the US.
but yeah, i do agree that NAto could be cut exponentially in this day and age.

The only thing that would be "enough" for these Republicans is if we ended social security, Medicare and Medicade altogether. That's the only thing that would satisfy them.

So let me get this right........ We give almost a trillion to the rich who don't need it, but yet we are cutting heating assistance for poor people?? We are talking about Corporate taxes getting cut... But we are talking about touching Social Security. Someone mentioned in another video having a visual aid for stuff like that... I think that's a good idea. People that actually watch and listen and learn understand the way it works... but there's a lot of people that just hear "Social Security costs $X dollars! We must cut it." but it's never shown how much money comes in, and where it comes from.
May not solve the problem (nothing will I think), but it'd be a big help (I think).
