I think the fine is BS. It was not a intentional hit by smith. Boldin's head was brought down by the other Jet player's hit. Smith was going for the chest. The NFL is stupid to fine a guy who had to watch a fellow player go through what boldin did.
Was that hit necessary? I don't think that SMith should have been suspended, his punishment happened during the hit. Hits like that can change careers for the worst. Hope Boldin gets better, he's an elite WR who is extremely underrated.
Eric Smith is white , & he knocked out a black man, which is why he was fined and suspended. If a black man knocks out a white man, for example, Tom Brady...there is no fine or penalty. It's called the OBAMA DOUBLE STANDARD.
well marcus pollard (who like smith apologized and meant no harm for their hits) was being blocked, fell down, and made a last desperation to try and tackle tom brady. both smith and pollard were trying to play the game and these coincidences happen in the game of football. for the record im from new england, a patriot fan, and white, and i see NO DOUBLE STANDARD HERE. also, if anything boldin could have been paralyzed by this play(look up darryl stingley), where as brady's injury was maximized.

Actually, he was fined for a helmet to helmet hit with 30 seconds left in the game, when the jets were up by 20 points....
