simonclews - I have yet to see a structured product that convinces me and I frequently find people are confused by them even having spoken to an IFA. The marketing language use by some of them remains a disgrace even after efforts by the FSA to tighten up on this. So we agree to disagree I am afraid.
To give a blanket - you should avoid structured products is naive and a frankly un educated view. I am an IFA and I fully explain the risks you have mentioned with clients. I agree with your factual input, but different people draw different conclusions as to whether or not these products would suit them or not. I would only discuss these products as a part of a portfolio. Educating people on these issues is great, but the sweeping generalisation, that these products are to be avoided is ri
My IFA made sure I had a kick-out 6 yrs ago, every year it produced above 10%pa and I re-invested. Should this be WHY YOU SHOULD BUY STRUCTURED PRODUCTS? My IFA said the FTSE only fell by 50% once since it was created so although there was a risk it is minimal. My pension is in a load of funds - and although ive changed them they are still SHIT. My IFA says if another IFAs ignores them you are NOT an IFA.
Thumbs up if you think he sounds like Pryce from Mad Men!
