  • only good thing with this lense is versatility. 135mm F2L lense beat this in all aspects except IS and it's half the price.

  • @tamoodfull The 135mm is in a different category... The 35mm, 50mm or an 85mm would be a better competitor to this beast of a zoom.

    If I was going to have two primes... it would be... a 50mm and... a 100mm (Macro).

    I currently have a 24-70 and a 70-200 and I love 'em both! Not the best in optics (I notice quite a lot of color crap in studio shoots but, it's okay with me).

  • This lens is perfect for everything :) This is the only lens I have. I already gave my nifty fifty to my mom!

    The complement/telephoto that I'm looking for right now is the 70-200mm f/4L USM IS or the 135mm f/2L USM which is currently rumored to be discontinued by Canon :-<

    Note: I can't afford the f/2.8L IS because it is too expensive for my needs. Besides, the f/4L IS USM is known to be one of the sharpest zooms.

  • ow does this compare to the ef-s 17-55mm?

  • @siliconsurf For cameras like 1000D, 50D or 7D, the 17-55mm is perfect. This lens is especially made for 5D or 1D cameras.

    EF-S = Crop Sensors (eg 1000D)

    L = FF (eg 5D)

    Note that L also stands for luxury as it is Canon's finest. EF-S lenses are especially made for crop cameras. :) However, L lenses work exceptionally well on crop sensors too.

    To answer you question, if you want superb quality and built, 24-70mm. If you want the best bang for the buck, 17-55mm. Ask yourself,

    WANT or NEED?

  • Yeah, it's a great lens but wide open, it's too soft for my liking.

  • Wow this is amazing! I am a beginner with a Canon 450D and kit lens. I can only dream of having this lens. Your pictures are beautiful! I am truly inspired. I hope one day I can take pictures like these.

  • Great photos! I am thinking of getting this lens and you're helping me make my mind up :)

  • YOUR WELCOME

  • In your opinion is the lens very sharp at f2.8? My 50mm f1.8 is a touch soft at f1.8, better at f2.8 but not pin sharp...

    cheers
