  • @memutic but if you do irritate them, do they have some self defense? biting perhaps? looks a lil freaky. like a thinner but oversized head of an ant with a long neck

  • @PDiddyindie107 Oh, they will give you a little bite, but nothing you can't handle

  • @memutic Says the guy who claims having leeches in his feet is successful.

  • @PDiddyindie107

Anything will bite you if you irritate it enough :p

  • @Andreazor yeah.. including humans

  • @memutic The only bugs that gross me out are some beetles, earwigs and Bolivia bugs. Anything else, and I'm fine. I'd actually like to hold one of these.

  • Background song seems like a Shan Race Traditional Song from Burma(Myanmar)

    Right?

  • squish that shit!

  • that kind of mentality is destroying our world!, we kill every little creature we see or find, they are part of our world, they deserve to exist as much as we do, in the end they are necessary for our own existence.

  • why do they call it a snakefly

  • subscribed

  • oh snakefly. thats what you call those little freaks.

  • fucking idiot

  • look like some sorta pokemon

  • in part 1:03 the fly attacked you =O

  • Another horrible one! Is it dangerous to humans?

  • lol dragon

  • Does it have a jointed thorax?

  • Not exactly! The pronotum is set far forward on the first thoracic segment - which gives it that tube-like neck. The thorax is fused - observe at 0:25 when it is bending its neck up - you can see the 1st thoracic segment where the 1st pair of legs joins the body, and the pronotum is the part sitting on top that bends upward.

  • Does that essentially mean that there is a panel on the top of the prothorax that's jointed?

  • That's an excellent question! Took me a little while to figure it out. It's not precisely "jointed" in the normal insect-sense of the word, but the pronotum is sclerotized (hard) whereas the rest of the prothorax is not. So it is flexible at the junction of the basal part and the produced part, kind of like the finger of a glove, if you will. I haven't dissected one, but I presume the sclerotized top of the produced part is where all the muscles insert that allow it the range of neck motion.

  • So it's more like a panel that lifts up?

How do you dissect a bug? Stereomicroscope and a very fine scalpel?

Thanks for all these responses! It's really interesting.

  • @memutic I live in Boise, Idaho and i have never seen this bug before. I often go camping but have never seen anything quite like this.

  • Are you in Thailand????

  • parece un dragon...

  • I agree with Lrb193, just like a 'Six-legged dragon!. Still, the music SUCKED.

  • i lived in idaho for 4 years never seen anything like it

  • WOW...... Is that a dragon? Or a fly? Or a Real-Life Pokeman?

  • When the hell they gonna base a pokemon on this? seriously.

  • That's a very beautiful and impressive insect... How dangerous is it?

  • lol hes riding in style 1:04

  • that's a baby dragon!!

  • I see that thing and think; "Six-legged dragon!"

  • not sure what it is but it looks cool

  • Beware the Jabberwocky!

  • i looked that up wat is it looks like a dragon/incect thingy

  • lol it looks more like a dragon!!!!! now this should have been called a dragonfly!! not the actual insect called it...

  • Comment removed

  • No.

  • wow thats a crazy looking bug

  • he bite your finger!

  • what a beautiful Raphidiopteran!

  • IT'S A DRAGON!

  • looks like a dinosoar

  • I've seen these in California.

  • why was it cleaning its legs what does it need them clean for

    can anyone answer ?

  • Very simple; after they have eaten they clean their paws just like mantis species.

  • Thanks :)

  • paws?

  • All insects are fastidious cleaners, it prevents movement-hampering buildup, bacterial growth, and fungal growth. Especially important if they live in Cordyceps territory!

  • evolution makes me lol

  • kinda looks like a dragon, lol

  • i'd hate for one of those to land on me

  • Wings = full-grown on all insects except some mayflies. They don't sting but they can give you a pretty good pinch with those mandibles.

  • are they common? what do the larva look like? what is their range and what is their pray?

These are a few questions that I would like answered.

    curiously,

    Tbikape

P.S. Please respond. These amazing videos are why I get up early!
