best music vid in forever! i've had this on a beta tape since the 80's and have been wanting to see it posted, so thanks! i'd like to hear more of their stuff if it's even out there....
I'm glad you found it again. I still go to the Omelettry - the one on Burnet and 52(?). Is that Omelettry West? And did you know the earlier commenter elduath?
elduath, I too worked at the Omelettry West! It was 1978 or '79. Old Kent Cole was a merry old soul! I played in a band with him then - called Boom Schmock the Lock (?!?) Moved around a lot & then moved back to Austin in 1985 to join my brother's band, B Complex. It was then that I saw this hilarious video (great song, too!) I taped it, but I've lost it over the years. I'm SO GLAD it's finally been posted!
You have no idea how many times i've had to hear about this song from my dad. He went to KU (84-88), and him and his friends have been looking for this video or at least this song since then. Anytime we'd go into a record store the first thing we had to look for was a 7' of "Gomer Pyle is God"...never found it. And then when I worked at a record store I was always on the look out for this and still no luck even with the daily received crates of 45's. My father and I thank you for finding this!
Here they are! El BJ! Yes, and I love them now as I loved them then. Here is Joe McDermott and company doin' nothin' but smokin'! The drummer sang and I watched them live. They rocked. Word!
I can't believe it. I used to watch this video in Dallas in 1983 at a small video bar, ON THE AIR. We loved it then and still do. SO good to see it again after 27 years
I check periodically for this one as well, what a joy to finally get a hit on this one! I remember it from ACTV Channel 10 (Austin) -1991/92 timeframe. I was considering uploading my copy, but I don' t have the first few seconds, so am really glad to see this out here.
You are both so very much welcome. It warms my cockles to learn that others have as much love for this video as I do. I found it in my old videos last week and the song has been stuck in my head ever since. GOMER PYLE IS GOD!!
I first saw this video in Dallas at "On the Air" on Greenville Ave in the early 80's. I've been wanting to see it again for so long. Thanks for putting it back out there. GPIG.
what is the name of the artist/band that does this song?

The Priest is Joe McDermott. He's my dad.
I'm pretty sure that this band was called El BJ
Fun Fact: Joe also did the music for Zombies Ate My Neighbors, if anybody remembers that game.

This is why the Internet was invented!!!
We played this one on Catch-22 in Anchorage in '85 and '86. I was the overnight VJ. I was one lucky SOB.

Oh. Your. GOD!!!!
I have been looking for this video for the last 20 FREAKING YEARS!!!
They used to play this on the low-power TV station Ch.30 in Lawrence, KS when I was a student at KU!
Ahh, the memories of drinking Schaffers and scamming free, nasty-ass Checker's pizza from the moron VJ on the channel!
You absolutely rule the internet now. Don't let the power go to your head, my friend.
