Hello, my name is Shawn Soucy and I am the person who shot the video footage of the oil spill. I did not charge the TV stations any fee for the broadcasting of the footage and any money I did receive for the footage was shared with Burnaby Wildlife Rescue Assn. I have the video on my YouTube site and I kindly ask that you remove this version you have from your site. Thank you
Although I live in Burnaby, I have not seen the area yet. I usually take a different route, Skytrain to Braid, and then the 169 to Coquilam Mall or beyond to Maple Ridge. Taking the Bus 160 is too slow.
yes in a sesne they had the same mishap in CA before this but you might want to get your facts right, that is the american branch of the company that happened with (and at the time they did not own what formally was known as Terasen Pipeline which is now there canadian branch of their company) so you cant exactly pin those kind of facts on something like this when you actually have no idea what your talking about, and plus, burnaby didnt dig in the right spot, they didnt even dig on the right day
Kinder Morgan had the same "accident" in CA in 2004. 5 peeople died as a result and they were fined only $150,000.00. Seems like a small amount for human lives. Goes to show they care more about profit than life...
I shot this video, hoping the oil wouldn't ignite.Maybe it should have, then all the animals affected wouldn't have died. We'd be dealing with burned houses instead. At least that would have gotten a quicker response from Kinder Morgan, the company who supplied the plans.
the company responsible for this outrageous abuse of our environment has had many such "mishaps" in the past and should be made to close shop after paying for ALL the damage, including all the ruined homes and houses that will now have to be demolished, not to mention all the families that will remain forever unable to garden or even grow flowers... stupid does not even begin to cover this fully preventable catastrophe.
So you'd think - if you didn't bother to read more information about the story. Turns out they DID make the call, and the *ahem* American pipeline company provided inaccurate drawings. I'm just sayin'.

OK, the facts are coming in and it's now possible to believe K-M is not fully responsible... sounds like KHonkey might have some info to share...

There is a new product out there that could have prevented this mishap.

Wow. It's Old Faithful of the municipal oil geysers.
I love the downtown eastside wannabe chick at the one minute mark. It's like Visanje fashion meets the crude faux fashion of the working poor.
Lighting this oil would have created a beautiful inferno for all of Vanouver/GVRD to watch!
