Toronto perspective: We were 17 years old when this stuff was out, and all we wanted was to go to San Francisco. Probably would have been a disappointment, but then again....
@230gargar Yes, this has been discussed. Someone wanted me to put up the song and I selected the picture without thinking. Lineup during the recording of this song:
@Bigpolak57 I just feel as if the process of converting the audio from vinyl to mp3 to Youtube has perhaps compressed or altered the data. Still sounds good though.
For the record: the pic shows a different lineup than those who performed on the recording. The song comes from the group's second album, "Feels Like I'm Fixin' to Die." (1967) Joe was living in the Haight at the time (I lived three doors down from him) and, married, was moving away from psychedelia. Sadly, this left the group pigeonholed in "comic rock" - things like The Fish Cheer and Fixin' to Die. In fact, they were accomplished musicians, the cream of intelligent psychedelia.
Such a cool song. I think I figured out the chords, so if anyone's interested I may look into figuring a way to share them. I would also be interested in seeing how other people play it.
Thanks for the comments everyone - I'm glad there are people out there that enjoy good music like this. It would be interesting to hear this song recorded with the equipment of today, but the sub-par audio quality certainly doesn't take away from the pure genius of this song. In fact, it kinda brings about a nostalgic vibe.
What do you mean by the Sub par quality of the music? I really don't think there's anything sub par about it. Maybe the fact that the recordings are 40 years old. I suppose they need to be digitally remastered. I am also glad to see you younger people like this. It delights me. The odd thing is that even when this was 1st made, it only appealed to a select few. The Fish was never very popular. But I always loved it. But I'm not typical, not in any way. Except being typically atypical. LOL
Yes, I was referring to the fact that it was recorded 40 years ago. Luckily a lot of great music from the 60's has been digitally remastered, including The Beatles' music which is being re-released again this September. But it is a shame that great music like this has been so overlooked.
Thanks, Man. At a time when most music was getting more complicated and over produced, Joe and the boys stripped this one down to basic, raw emotion. It still amazes me how visually evocative it is. Nice!

Wow, I hadn't heard this in a few decades. One of the best off that album, I think. Great delivery! Authentic psychedelic blues.

I too adore them, an exceptional band! Didn't realize they weren't that popular though.
Big thanks to uploader.

All of the equipment and computer programs today make every thing seem so fake and processed. I prefer this to any thing made in the last 15 years.
