@t33ngoth As two seperate entities, I can appreciate them both. I (unfortunately, as die-hards would say) I saw the Kubrick film before reading the novel. I'd known beforehand that the book would be much more graphic, but I found the character of Humbert even more shocking, finding that there would be absolutely no sympathizing with him, after being charmed by James Mason. I am equally disturbed, as a Kubrick freak, knowing that if I had read the novel first, I would have loathed the film.
It's funny: when put into proper context between the film and the novel, this song is supposed to represent the trite, soulless, awful music that the youth were listening to.
When I saw the movie, I was blown away by this song, and the role it plays in the movie (just after Humbert and Lolita "play a game" together...). It should be available on any Ventures compilations as it one of their most important songs, after "walk, don't run", "hawaii 5-0", and a few others.
"I think it was your cherry pie..." This Nelson Riddle song might just be the best part of this completely overrated Kubrick film adaptation of the genius Nabokov novel which shot over the ya-ya heads of 20th C America. Watching the uberannoying Sellers get riddled (not Nelson this time) with bullets is another enjoyable bit.
Thanks for posting it, you did us a real service! Even though the movie was advertised `for persons over 18 years of age', I was able to see it at age 10 because the management must have assumed kids would soon fall asleep after the picture started.
I'd find out the next day, August 5th.,that we were watching it during Marilyn Monroe's final hours.
This is a GREAT version of this song! Was it the one used in the movie? I've heard another version by Nelson Riddle, and one by the Ventures (which is great btw :)) Thanks.
It doesn't sound like the one in the movie. The scene where Humbert meets Lolita and you hear the theme the first time is listed under the Related Videos to the right - hear for yourself.

hated this movie. it was so different from the book. the 1997 one is just as bad. she's beautiful, though.

The 60's is fast becoming the epic decade of nostalgia.
A few weeks ago, I saw a large glass Mountain Dew soda bottle sell on Ebay for $3,000!
