dear manilaboy... umm.... how did you not notice the nose check at 0:33. This whole situation is sex and drugs, control and money. Everything in this images is a highly processed illusion. You are missing the gag, there is a joke here that you are not recognizing.
The model in the middle at 0:13 was a favorite of all the fashion houses in the 80's. She had a slight resemblance to a young Annette Benning. She appears again at 2:23 on the left.
Wow there were some bold and beautiful hats here. 23 years ago yet and we still do not have hats back into style the way I want to see them in style. I love the high crowns towards the end of the video designers are trying to bring them in. They are so elegant.
Unfortch, I don't see hats of this kind of awesomeness ever coming back. The customer today is very much trying to be younger than her age--the ideal is late-teens now. The '80s were a very serious time in fashion, and the customer's ideal then was to be "of age" and equals to men and sophisticated: empowered. These hats are very empowering, to be sure.
I doupt it, although the teen thing is true. But the 80s are coming back. That is mainly because fashion is cyclical. 90s are like the 60s, 00s are like the 70s and 10s will be like the 80s. Shoulderpads are already on all runways. Empowered is not the thing now anyway though, but I think a new yuppie thing might crop up.
And some parts of the 80s itself were like the 50s (leather jackets, some of the men's hair had crew-cuts, bright colors). It definately is a bit cyclical.
I don't see this kind of elegance and refinement anymore in the fashion world, everything now is laced with sex and drugs, most especially when Yves Saint Laurent passed away.
