i went to music strore and the seller told " So you've got the choice under 1000$ you can have a gibson studio ( he told me it is crap ) then a american telecaster and a baja. Then he said so you've got the choice the best mexican or the worst american , that's all i can say " So i'm thinking of getting this piece of wood lol :)
lol I still had the tags hanging from the neck like your's for weeks after I bought mine. Still got the plastic film over the neck pickup and the Baja sticker on the scratchplate (mine's white though).
Awesome guitar, I love how it sounds and plays and well worth the £440 I paid for it. :D
I have a question my fellow guitar lovers, the fender tele. First. A fucking beautiful guitar! and second, would I able to play music such as muse? Kasabian? AAR? and just have an awesome metal tone, including a great crunch and an awesome clean sound if i put it with my Boss ME-70?
Dude, the baja pisses over the highway one, dont think cos its "usa" made its better -the mexi baja's are bonafide classics now, iv had both and the baja is such an awesome guitar for the money. If it was "usa" made it would be selling for a grand or more - for sure.
It's awesome and sounds just like a roadworn tele which costs about 2grand
Loooove it!
Now playing Proud Mary by CCR on it maan it sounds sooo clean sweet and smooth! :D
Love love love it!
And about the 22nd fret, I dont even miss it anymore coz it's almost impossible to reach there because of the silver plate with the Fender logo which is mounted on the back.
Baja Tele is a vey versitile guitar. Position 4 with the S1 switch engaged is very "humbucker like." I was going to swap out the bridge pickup for a single coul sized HB but the stock pick up is very good.
they don't sound THAT good with a lot of gain (I mean A LOT), I love the clean tone and I love to put a little bit of gain on the top. AMAZING GUITAR! I'm getting my Fender Telecaster Baja Blonde Maple in a week! I'm so excited ! :D
To be freaking honest I don't understand all the 'Baja' hype...
A real Tele shouldn't be heavy in weight at all, especially a quality light (swamp) ash body...I played a Baja Tele myself about 2 weeks ago, but it was also too heavy and it lacked the open, resonant and classic tone of a light weight Tele (at least to my ears!). You should make a clean clip of your Baja, that's how we can judge the TONE of a guitar, not this way.
i heard some good zeppelin riffs in there. Great tele. My noob friend (been playing 6 months) just bought the only one in stock at te local music shop so now when I have the money I have to order the guitar rather than walk in buy it and leave
I'm not too sure about all that gain. Tele's are great guitars (and I have the exact same one) but I also have my Ibanez w/ Duncans for when I want to rock like this.
I think there is no better Tele under 1000 EUR. I haven't played many americans, but was underwhelmed by most of them. My Baja is very heavy, but it has a mega beefy sound, and it holds up rather well against my Les Pauls.
I love both shapes, but find gibsons to be really expensive for what you get. Have you tried ESP's eclipse series? ESP isn't just a metal brand, contrary to some opinion. Yea, I play a lot of moderm music, but my guitar influences are more bluesy influenced players (Zakk Wylde, Dimebag, Slash, Eddie Van Halen, etc.), and the guitar handles it well. Plus and Eclipse II is the same price as a studio and plays better in my opinion.
Otherwise, I'm a tele guy. ^_^ ESP Eclipse or Tele in my book.
It's really hard to say. They are different guitars. Roughly I would say, if you're more on the heavier side, the LP might be right - if you wanna do more blues and lowgain rock, the Baja might be the better choice.
Best is always to try both - and usually then buy something else that catches your eye and you haven't considered ;O)
You will get more bang for your buck from a Baja compared to a LP studio However, it really depends on whether your a Fender of Gibson man. Gibson have a smaller scale fret board. If you have bigger hands, its easier to play fender guitars in my opinion. Then again, Im a tele guy.
BTW. Is it Blonde version ? If it is thats exactly the one i wanted ;) On most sites i've only seen Desert Sand and its not mine favourite version (black pickguard rocks!) :D
yeah les pauls are great for heavy metal--the best even, as you stated--however, they aren't as good at blues or really anything else.... strats and teles sound better clean. It's personal prefference.
I'm not sure that the les paul isnt as good for blues, eric clapton seemed to be of the impression that they went alright when he did the beano album with the blues breakers, frediie king did some great stuff with them too.
If you're going to use Clapton's prefference as a platform for which guitar is better suited for blues... look at the greater span of his career rather than one album. Clapton has always been a strat man and I'll restate what I said earlier. Les Pauls aren't AS good for blues--this is, of course, my opinion--in the traditional sense. It's very difficult to get the thin twangy sound out of a les paul or SG even with p90's... if you want a chunky blues sound... go for a gibson.
I hear what you're saying but he used gibsons all throughout the cream era too and as late as last year he was touring with a gibson cs336. Having said all that yes he is a strat guy for the most part. And to each there own on the les paul v strat blues thing, I'm a big fan of both.
Lol, well... There's this big debate between fender lovers and gibson lovers... I think the gretsch guitars should have their own place among these arguments as well. Their hollowbodies with the tv jones pickups are incredible... full bell tones that no fender or gibson really match.
don't diss any guitar, they're all legendary tones - if you don't like it, thats ok but remember they all had their place in music history - personally i plan to have at least one from every kind - LP, Strat, Tele and maybe SG plus some EVH style ;) I'm realy jelous that Fender Baja Tele is great and versalite guitar, good for almost everything (especially clean and dirty blues tones).
Definately buying one!

Guess all Baja's are 21frets?
Darn I want 22 frets -.-"
Tough choice, a Baja or a Highway -.-"
I love all the extra options you get with the 4way switch and button on the volumeknob but I only miss my 22nd fret :(

do the paintjob something with the sound to do?

no but it adds to the cheapness of the highway one. The guitar is easily chipped and cracked because of the finish on the guitar.
