I can't imagine how large a working computer would be! Boy, when computers were first invented, they took up the size of a room. But this is ridiculous!
@eah2119 yeah if a modern computer was built entirely of the valves and stuff we had 30-40 years ago it would be the size of a large building, a supercomputer could be up to the size of a skyscraper, and in minecraft the circuits are scaled up like 50 times, i wouldn't even want to begin to imagine how much work would go into making an actual computer in minecraft lol
When you finish, make the redstone torch a big bright red blob in the texture pack so we can make it out better and it's off state the same as the board blocks!! Please Consider
Fantastic project. I started a smaller project a while ago but I had terrible trouble with syncing the outputs, then when I finally got that working I download a new version of Minecraft and all the clocks stop working in just that world :( and for some reason no matter how hard I try I can't get them going again.
Guys we should all make a MASSIVE server, and work together to make a fully functional Super Mario Bros. redstone game in minecraft. with all of us working as much as possible, it could be done in about a year or two... just imagive super mario bros on a giant redstone screen in minecraft!
@vinizz11 I said it would take a few years cuz it would take up an area that you wouldnt even be able to see the end of on far render distance. you must not understand english. -_-
I just figured out how to wire twin Iron Doors to open. And the mechanics on the minecart systems/boosters. And that made me feel like a genius. After watching your vids I suddenly feel retarded.
hmm. can somebody point my in the direction of a easy projeect for a beginner to cpus in minecraft. im very good at redstone but i havent gotten into cpu's yet
Ah man. Your last two videos were 3 days apart, but that was 4 months ago! You haven't given up, have you? This is amazing, I am in full support of you.
@EdTheBadass Obviously he knows enough to understand how redstone works. Even with knowing that, a structure like this would still take a long time for just one person to do. So yes, I do think he spent more time building this than we do on some moderate building. I'd compare it more to one of us building a shopping mall, or something even bigger.
The and gate will flip on the next memory and turn the current memory off. The only thing you need is a safety system (I have one) that prevents the chain to jump several times during one signal. Then theres a mirrored system going the other way ( - ).
Im not very good explaning my redstone but i know how to use it. Its due to im self tought so Im not experienced with the proper wordings. I have a Redstonesim of this system working. Tell me if you want to see it.
For counting I used T flip flops in the past. I designed another way to do it by coincident. The good think with it is that it needs no arithmetical unit to calculate the t flip flops. I use a chain of memories. Each memory representing 1 nummer. Like 1 2 3 and so on. The chain works like this that a signal is connected to an and gate, the other input is connected to the output of the previous memory. This makes the memory advance one step along the chain for each pulse from the signal.
For all of you who are upset that he just kinda quit youtube, and were looking forward to this, check out my channel, I have a fully functional pong game, with singleplayer AND multiplayer as well as a bonus singleplayer mode. Im the only one who has multiplayer on a pong game so come check it out!
you created a videogame, within a videogame... i have to admit i thought at first "this guy has too much time on his hands" and then i realized that if it wasnt for people like you minecraft wouldnt be nearly as interesting as it is. so thank you my good man for finding new and entertaining ways to use redstone.
You should really consider getting this project public to get a really good job in electrical engineering / programming / design. Who knows? Maybe in 2 years you'll be making 200k a year thanks to Minecraft and Notch ;]
forgive me for my stupidity if im wrong but aren't you kind of recreating a simple computer that on binary in a computer game if you r that is pure AWESOMENESS recreating the computer in a game thats simply amazing
@101Blasphemy101 really? I haven't really noticed that while building my ALU... i'll pay more attention but I think they are actually faster than torches are
Hey theres a mod that uses lightstone to make torches like redstone torches but it has pretty much built in flip flop, so if it has no power and you press a button itll stay on till you press the button again. if you download that mod im sure itll help you make this project easier.
once you are finished you should show us it working. then blow it up with tnt. you should record that with a handheld camera though so it won't destroy your computer.
that would be a way to finish a project.
p.s.
if you would like to save it and show us blowing it up. copy the save file and put onto desktop. so once you destroy the map you could bring the thing back!!!
I'm just posting because I want to stress how awesome this is. I'm at a loss for words (partly because it's 8AM, and I did NOT just get up, if you know what I mean), so unfortunately it's beyond my abilities at the moment to do anything coherent. As I said, you're great, keep it up!
ok i am confused on something, i understand counters and toggle flip flops just fine... and i have a working 5 and 4 bit on my world, but i dont know how u go from simple counters making them move things, im not asking for a tutorial on how to do this entire pong thing, just and explanation on how to go from counter to display pixels. if someone could help that would be great! :)
@KohviKoer after looking into it, yes you can make a sync counter with JKs, with redstone though I don't think it is feasible, especially since it needs to be able to count up/down. The simpler solution is still Ts I think. I already know I can sync the output, simply by adding repeaters to delay the higher bits output to the decoder, just have not done it yet in this system, but I have in others. The delay in a JK counter that would do the same would not be faster and would be more complex.
@Harbingerx81 well glad i can help a bit. Im really no red expert like you :( but i manage simpler stuff like doubledoors :) waiting for ya next update!
@Cubs54231 Self taught...Learned a couple programming languages for fun...Picked up a breadboard and a ton of components and used the internet to learn basic electrical theory and CMOS logic as a hobby...Between the two redstone is a perfect fit...Programming to figure out the steps needed, electrical theory to make them happen.
@Harbingerx81 My stance on the matter is that until there's a new Creative mode that includes all the new stuff that's been added to the game since Survival, inventory hacking on Peaceful is perfectly acceptable. I was unaware that you could go over 64 in one slot that way though. What is the actual limit, for reference?
@Toksyuryel using InvEdit you can go up to 255. Once you do that it no longer displays the number in your inventory...Going that high can do some strange things though, like if you pick up one more of that item it resets the stack back to 0, or if you have a maxed stack in your hand and say, punch a sheep, it will completely disappear.
ok i have noticed a slight problem, you have counters, and if they are asynchronous, not synchronus then the counter output will lag each bit a bit, and this can make the "ball" pixel jump to random locations.
@KohviKoer Yeah, I have mentioned that a couple times...Right now they are all async, once I have everything working properly I am going to go back and sync them up to take out the ripple effect.
That looks very good! You're keeping everything very logical and clear so far, which means no chance for mistakes. It's probably going to get finished faster then mine did because of no debugging overhead...
Hopefully balancing invertors so that the ball doesn't blink around while flying works.
@van0fizmat Syncing everything for the ball movement should be pretty easy...The paddle movement is going to be a bit trickier. The X and Y axis are going to each have a separate constant bit to control direction, the paddles rely on a properly timed pulse from the push buttons, so the timing on them is a bit odd.
